- Order Number 27 - A propaganda film produced by the DPRK, and a wild one at that. Pretty unique as films go, since this one was produced as part of authoritarian communist propaganda, so it's an interesting case study into North Korean Culture. Sorry bout the weird widescreen, it's the only way I could get it all to fit
This video falls under fair use so the DPRK probably won't Copyright Strike me. They'll Airstrike me.
Americans troop fighting over food is a relatively common occurrence. Just see what happens when a box of MRE’s has only one chilly Mac MRE and the rest are vegetarian tacos. Shit turns a platoon into last man standing real quick.
That’s why when I was in supply I would open them up and steal the chili Mac for myself lol

The fact that this movie was not even nominated for an Oscar, just shows Hollywood has a LONG way to go, in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

21:10 The US donated nearly half a million jeeps to Russia in WW2. Russia then gave many leftovers to North Korea to use in the Korean War, as they were of no use to Russia as they couldn’t get parts any more. And the jeep was still a capable enough vehicle at the time that the NK Army did use them. American made jeeps being used to fight Americans.
If you think about it tones of American inventions have been used against Americans it's just wild too me how often our literal weapons end up in enemy hands
Ugh, don't remind me how we allied with Stalin and the Red Army and gave them so much stuff.
Damn. I’m a U.S. soldier and we have a hard enough time keeping our own HUMV’s working. If the North Koreans are able to maintain double hand me down jeeps maybe they are good at something 😂
Good point, but it was also the 80s, so it was a little less off
The Type 36 and 37 were Chinese manufactured M3 "Grease" Gun during the late 1940s. It was handed to other countries to fight against forces throughout conflicts that were in favour of specific ideologies. The Type 36 is chambered in a 9mm round instead of the M3 and m3A1's .45 ACP. The weapon was probably handed over to the prop/weapon company for the movie due to how obsolete it is compared to the Soviet and Chinese production weapons (PPS-43, Type 56, SKS just to name a few). I hope this helps or explains why the weapon would be seen. It's actually more common that the M1/M2 Carbines seen in the movie would have the story more along the lines of what you said. I hope this helps in any way.
The footage isn't clear enough to tell if it was a Type 36 vs an actual M3 or M3A1. The clearest shot you can see of one is the shot where Kil Nam gets shot off the train, but the stamp is covered by the actor's hand so it's hard to tell.
That said, the Type 36 was only used in the Korean war in very limited numbers as far as I can tell, but tens of thousands of genuine M3s would've been sent there by the United States. Given how many other captured US-army props we can find in these films (including, like you say, the M2 carbines) I don't doubt that these are real M3s. But you're right they could also be the Type 36 and 37s.

A very entertaining video 👍 the films action scene looked awesome too, reminds me of some old Jackie Chan fight scenes
Hah, thanks. It kind of got buried by the algorithm but I'm glad you found and enjoyed it.
That's what I thought too, they really used to hit each other to make it real but tried their hardest not to hit REAL hard. However Jackie Chan had many stories about Bruce Lee punching or kicking him in the face real hard. Jackie carried on the legacy of the same type of movies, I haven't missed one, until the very American made movies where the action is all cut-aways so you can't tell no one ever got punched.
Ironically, one of the lies told in NK, is that they have food because their dear leader is so awesome and makes sure they have food. While Americans are always poor and hungry because we're stupid losers. A NK defector I met in South Korea (I'm Korean-American) told me. She said she was a teenager when her family was given food, they were told, generously given by Kim Kong Il, in 1999. A few years later she escaped to South Korea where she saw the same symbol that had been on the crates and crates of food. She asked what the symbol meant, and was told "that is American flag". She realized the food the NK dear leader was taking credit for providing had actually been given by America. She said that realization made her hate Kim Kong Il even more than she already did. She also told me I was the first American she had ever met. I was born in VA, used to live in NY and was visiting family in Korea. In NK they teach all kinds of ridiculous things they claim about Americans. If it wasn't so extreme to the point of being funny, I would find it insulting.

8:58 - accordions are a soviet thing. Accordion (аккордеон, гармонь, гармошка, баян) _extremely_ often appears in old soviet war movies (about the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945), because it was very popular at the time. I'd say, in 1930s almost every village in USSR had at least one accordionist (EDIT: this might be wrong, thanks to @Bialy_1 for correction - I could have been brainwashed by Soviet movies). The song at 9:14 is reminiscent of old soviet war-time songs.

The director who was kidnapped, was kept for 8 years and made to work on seven films from what I can tell. They escaped by making the North Koreans trust them enough to leave them alone for 5 minutes when they were taken to Austria, and they escaped and were chased into traffic by the North Koreans until they reached the US embassy.
This movie was released in the same year that the director escaped, so it's possible he was working on it, but he definitely would have known most of the cast.

Regarding the "American soldier" in a tree with an axe:
This scene was probably an homage to an actual incident on August 18, 1976, in which two American Army officers were bludgeoned to death while they were trimming a tree, in an unprovoked attack by a group of North Korean military men.
Operation Paul Bunyan. "The Joint Security Area's advance camp (Camp Kitty Hawk) was later renamed "Camp Bonifas" in honor of the slain company commander.[17] The Barrett Readiness Facility, located inside the JSA and housing the battalion's north mission platoon, was named for Barrett."
It was not an “unprovoked attack from a group of North Korean military men”. Those two American Army officers were cutting down a tree which was planted by Kim Il Sung inside a disputed area. The act enraged the North Koreans who saw it and killed the two Americans.
Pretty sure the movie is also a homage to the Blue House Raid which a group of North Korean commandos were sent to South Korea in an attempt to assassinate the South Korean president during the 1960s

Well, for me as a soviet kid it was a great movie.
This is one of the first Eastern martial arts films to be officially translated and released in Soviet distribution. We just did not have others.
The movie starred fighters of real special units of North Korea, real masters of martial arts. Due to the unprofessionalism of a number of actors, some participants in the filming were very seriously injured.
Director of the movie was from South Korea. He and his wife were kidnapped in Hong Kong. You may google and translate the article: kak-kim-chen-ir-ukral-sin-san-oka-pohishhenie-i-pobeg-avtora-severokorejskoj-godzilly
The plot of the movie partly based on a true story. In February 1968, a detachment of North Korean special forces attacked the palace of the South Korean president right in Seoul. They were discovered just 100 meters from the palace by the police and were killed in a fierce battle: 29 KIA, 2 POW.
The most accurate thing about this movie I've seen so far is the American soldiers gambling while drinking for more money to spend on alcohol and hookers. Very accurate depiction of bad ass American dudes.
No it wasn't. The first ever officially broadcasted martial arts movie was "Monks of Scaolin monastery" and it was shown on Drozdov's program about nature and animals in the early 80s. It was channel 1 if I remember it correctly.

The post World War II Soviet occupying force had a lot of accordions with them.
@@prideb4caffeine999 You're very close. If it had just been that, it would have been quickly forgotten to fall out in favor of traditional Korean musical instruments. Instead, Stalin put significant effort into presenting every area under Soviet control as one big, happy family. Sparing no expense, Korean during the war got put on a train and transported to Eastern Europe to perform traditional dance and music. Great video btw :)
Would north Korea take the effort to load guns with blanks...
nah, they would be too busy feeding kim jong un
don't think so.... wouldn't want to star in one of their snuff movies
Yes, only because of ammo rationing.
Blanks are cheaper than actual cartridges.
That big fight scene is also not cut to shreds with 2 cuts/second! That makes it even better and more clear to understand what's going on.
Really funny video man. Keep grinding these out haha. Let’s play enlisted soon ;)
I saw in an interview with an ex-north Korean military personnel member, that writing letters back to family is a bittersweet moment. Not only were they rarely allowed to do so, but many times when they finally get to go back home, the parents don’t recognize their own kid due to being gone for so long starting at such a young age.
Fun fact: 36 people actually died in filming this video.
You think it was intentional?
@terranceaddison4599 no way, they value life above anything else in north korea
I love you comment 'just behind Disney' I used to work for Disney, we used to call it Mousewitz
.
Yeah, they're pretty awful.
0:21 I love how Gaijin Entertainment is also on number 2 here
The guy in the tree w an axe is based on a real confrontation at the DMZ. There was a huge tree blocking the line of sight. We went to cut it down, they didn't like that idea
Wow yeah the cool thing about the fight scenes in this is very much the same reason I love so many thai and chinese martial arts movies;
Very long wide cuts of full on fighting and even better is the fact that there aren't many people just standing around waiting to attack, Two or three people at at time are coming in and being taken down as the others are being set up in a realistic way and it just keeps flowing.
What an awesome director! ... I hope he is alive and well.
NK Worker: i wonder where our pay goes?
another NK Worker: no idea
The Pay:
not gonna lie that 14min fight scene was actually pretty awesome. especially for the 80s
Awesome video, action was top notch, and also im pretty sure no one has to worry about copyright.
Damn! the fight scenes are friggin' amazing!
Damn, now this is an extremely underrated video with some high quality presentation. what's up I came from your Enlisted video. I like the way you cover this north korean propaganda movie that I don't know managed to spread outside of the country itself. I think you should try cover that old Stalin era Battle of Berlin propaganda movie for your next video.
I played a drinking game where every time the narrator says "unironically" I take a shot. I died of alcohol poisoning 10 years ago
@@jasonduvall9480 I'm in talks with the Pentagon to help them weaponize this drinking game.
Preliminary tests have demonstrated great lethality potential.
The helicopter scene at the very end got me so good I felt like I fell out of my body
I subscribed at the Ford Pinto joke. Hilarious! You win.
If I'm not mistaken, teaching the accordion is mandatory, so many of the actors would know how to play it well.
Wow, there are no words. So bad its entertaining in pretty much every way. Yes the fight scenes where okay but as for everything else, just have to take it for what it is and nothing more. Loved the commentary, was funny. Nice job. There where alot of other things incorrect that you didn't mention but I'm sure you didn't want a 4 hour vid so that's understandable. Thanks. I assume all NK movies are this bad and wonder if folks have to be ordered to watch them???
For the algorythm gods. Also great video, might have to watch a NK film now😮
"Unironically," "I'm 100% here for it."
I dont underdtand how your channel doesnt get more attention. You seem to have very enjoyable and good quality content! Before i checked your channel i thought youd have liek atleast a couple thousand if not tens of thousands of subscribers. But keep it up!
You edited the comment yet still you've made spelling mistakes.
@@thatKQ and? English is my third language and i write pretty fast.
@@GGGaming-by9vz and? Do you feel offended or something?
@@thatKQ your og comment is basically meant to shame, suppress or juts generally point out that im bad at english. If you didnt mean that with your comment maybe you should learn how to write more politely or phrase your comments better
@@GGGaming-by9vz you are reading too much into it, this is the internet.
20:25 that unironically such a cool pose not gonna lie, I haven’t felt the same kind of excitement ever since Cpt. America does the superhero pose after defeating the Quinjet
You use the word unironically as uselessly often as video voice
0:48 🙋who else thought the green writing behind the jumping guy was gonna be farts 💨 propelling him at first???😂😂😂
Dude, great vid. I fucking loved the raycon ad bit lmao. Ngl, outsourcing editing to the North Koreans may not be a bad idea if the vid is patriotic enough.
Also, prolly mentioned by someone else, but you missed another, probable, captured munition, the BAR used at 29:46
I was hoping others would notice your under appreciated talent. Good shit brother
2:23 " _They almost win this war...but then they don't_ " (toilet flushes)
I nearly choked on my drink lmao
This is a fantastic video! You’ve earned a new subscriber.
The action scenes...I see some Bruce Lee moments, some very kinetic, Jackie Chan-like scenes, and some moments so ridiculous, it lands onto Stephen Chow territory.
also, my take on 17:14 ; the guy just needed time for his CoD-style health regen to kick in.
Wonderful. This was very entertaining. What’s amazing is I actually watched the entire thing when I should’ve been working.
13:16 I feel like the soldier in the tree might be a reference to the 1976 Panmunjom "axe murder" border incident.
You missed the WW1 "baton" style grenade in the Captains hands in the last scene there. Very crazy movie I will have to track it down.
Love your channel guys....love the sinple logic, wit and sarcasm....brilliant 😊
Hmm... Not bad, i like the fight scenes, it reminded me the first time i watched
"OngBak Muay Thai Warrior", im impressed and no shakey camera up close fight scnes, full view. 👍🏽
Great overview of this hilarious film! I had no idea martial arts played such an important role in modern warfare, lol. When he's riding the helicopter wheel at the end, at 30:58 you can see he's holding a soviet RPG-43 anti-tank grenade which presumably if slammed into the helicopter's hull hard enough could have destroyed it.
Do you know about India and China armies standoff on boarder and fight eachother without guns
@@Np_updates
they throw stones at each other and beat each other with wooden sticks.
@@Np_updatesyou really think high level martial arts goes on over at that border??
Im probably the hardest person ever to make laugh but I cracked up during this. Great job. subd
With this level of quality, you deserve way more attention. Keep at it!
4:39
I dont know if that is what the subtitle tells you, but the identification he presents says that he is an officer of the South Korean Army. Moreoever, other than the 8th Corps markings, the ranks and unit insignias are all that of the South Korean 5th Infantry Division.
if you look closely at the capitain when he blows up the helicopter, he is seemingly holding a stick grenade
This reminds me of some of the Soviet propaganda films of the 1970's and 80's. Over the top story line with plot holes you could drive a Lada through...those were the days.
That joke where the guy pretends to be grass is peak Russian comedy too 😂
Those uniforms for the US looks weird!
This is my first time watching a NK movie, don't know what the story is trying to say but the fighting is crazy. Trying to find a America person in a train with lot's of NK people is going to take all day.
It's odd but interesting seeing there POV with war.... even if its not true.
I remember watching this with my dad. He told me this was their version of Rambo. Romania only allowed movies from the communist block so when this came out in the cinema all the teenagers went to watch it every day until they stopped screening it 😆
Dude this needs more attention
Sick video bro. I dig it. Wonder if they make UA-cam videos about red dawn over there lol
Lol they're not allowed media access
This is one of the most high quality Pictures I have ever seen before. The acting is superb.
