He passed away today from cancer aged 73, RIP Steve
If this was in the UK, all the audience would be singing along.
This was very well known in Australia back in the day. I'm sure performed "live (mimed in front of audience)" on Countdown. If I post it to fakebook I get lots of comments like "this takes me back" and all that jazz.

I saw Steve live at Glastonbury Abbey , Somerset, England - one off my bucket list, my favourite song in the whole world :)
This was a big hit in my youth. So it brings back a few memories. There was only one hour in the week when Toppop was on tv. I was always completely ready for it. MTV did not exist yet.
Exactly Monique and I was one of them that bought it. Steve Harley was an original to me and I drove my two little kids mad playing it.
I remember him on TopPop. And before that, Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel had a smaller hit song with Sebastian, such a great song too, early art rock I guess.
Cannot believe you did this one Sir Combustable! I am totally gobsmacked. My Dads favourite artist ever. Even at the grand old age of 70+ he and his best mate, still go to every live gig to this day. I was just awash with emotion that you loved this. There is so much more to Steve Harley and his band Cockney Rebel. Check out Psychomodo and Best Years of our Lives just as another taster. Peace brother, love your stuff so much. And especially being ex Forces, I am there with you. Without saying too much my side.
It's one of the most uplifting songs ever written.
