He must have played this song a million times in his life and he makes it sound so fresh and exciting, like he was playing it for the first time. This is how you treat a classic song, one of the greatest pop songs ever recorded. Amazing job.
Amen sister!! Nothing better, I’ve been saying that all my life! Add UK/Euro v. my country…The other side of the pond has the majority of the best musicians ever in my book. And they still do. I’m going to get shunned from my home now! Ha ha ha ha ha. I don’t care, truth hurts sometimes…
Must be twinned with Cornwall. Years ago I was doing a gig in Red Ruth, we were playing our hearts out and got nothing from the audience all night. After the gig we packed up pretty sharpish as we thought we were gonna get lynched of stuffed in a wicker man or something equally horrible, but as we tried to make our escape, they crowd kept coming up and telling us how much they'd enjoyed it. We asked why they never clapped or owt and they just said, it's not something we do 'round here! lol
I was first into this band in 1973...I was 14 years old...can you imagine a 14 yr old being brought up and listening to this guy at that age? This was his big hit aaat 17 yrs old, I loved his firs 4 albiums
First discovered Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel at school in 1973….everyone was into glam rock T Rex, Bowie, Slade, Sweet etc but I got a loan of The Human Menagerie album of that year and after hearing the classic & very powerful “Sebastian” track I was hooked! After the break up of the original band Harley went on to release many albums but the most underrated for me was 1976 “Timeless Flight” which contains 2 gems….All Men are Hungry and Understand….well worth a listen. Keep writing and playing Steve you are a legend👌
Great! This footage is from a program on Norwegian public broadcasting (NRK) called Herreavdelingen (The Gentlemens' Department). I would like to have the whole session avilable on youtube. Please!!!
I'm so glad he's still alive and kicking. Still bringing so much solace to so many. I 've discovered this song two decades ago when i was in my 20s and i still love it. And thanks to the magic of utube we can actually see how steve performed over the years. I'ts great!
Brilliant! Takes me back to the past. My Dad was ahead of his time in 1975. I was about 14 but he took me to a few concerts in Eastbourne. OK, some were Gene Pitney, Shirley Bassey and The Batchelors but we also saw Cockney Rebel and the Average White Band. We went to Richard Branson's first record store in Brighton near the Clocktower to buy Tubular Bells. Dad liked the electronic music and accidently bought some early Human League - Travelogue. So glad we got to see Steve and the band live in the early days.
You've done it all, you've broken every code And pulled the rebel to the floor You spoilt the game, no matter what you say For only metal, what a bore! Blue eyes, blue eyes...How come you tell so many lies? Come up and see me, make me smile Or do what you want, running wild There's nothing left, all gone and run away Maybe you'll tarry for a while It's just a test, a game for us to play Win or lose, it's hard to smile Resist, resist...It's from yourself, you have to hide, oh Come up and see me to make me smile, oh Or do what you want, running wild There ain't no more, you've taken everything From my belief in Mother Earth Can you ignore my faith in everything 'Cause I know what faith is and what it's worth Away, away... And don't say maybe you'll try To come up and see me to make me smile Or do what you want just running wild Come up and see me, make me smile Or do what you want, running wild Come up and see me
What a song and what a performance! Couldn’t believe at first sight that it’s the same Steve Harley as in the video from 1973! It’s my motivation song when I do sport and I am sure one day I will join in singing while in the gym 😀
I HAVE KNOWN STEVE HARLEY AND COCKNEY REBEL FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS NOW...EVEN NOW, I DO NOT KNOW WHERE DID THEY COME FROM, NOR WHERE DID THEY GO, JUST LIKE MY WHOLE LIFE... THE REBELS AND SEBASTIAN, ARE MY FRIENDS, YOUR FRIENDS, OUR FRIENDS, EVERYBODY'S FRIENDS...my best thoughts for you, your family and all your friends... from romania, GELU BATIR, jan 2021
Just a matter piece classic music 🎶 Beautiful song ❤ can't help smiling ❤ My time 1950/60 When we had the best Great happiness Great life Great England ❤ Back then ❤ My first date She made me smile ❤ First love Thanks Steve ❤ Had a beautiful time Back then ☕❤️☕
Such an underrated performer .....one of my favourite songs ....and never thought it could be bettered how wrong I was. With an orchestra in the mix it blew me away Mr Harley your like a fine wine getting better with age THANK YOU
I don't want to be mean, and I like the orchestral arrangement, but when he he gets to the end of the main part of the song (3:14 ) Steve and the orchestra get out of sync. They recover after an awkward attempt at getting the crowd to join in. Not a patch on the Rockwiz version.
Superb! I’ve not seen this one before but Steve can certainly still hit the notes. What a song, it never loses its appeal. Thanks Steve, you are a class act Sir!
imo a moral of any performance is assess your audience before asking them to participate in a song! After watching this it's clear steve ruined the performance as soon as he got the audience involved!!
NO SÉ ESCRIBIR EN INGLÉS.....PERO STEVEN SOS COMO EL VINO AÑEJO....MIENTRAS MÁS VIEJO MÁS RICO....CUANTO MÁS GRANDE MÁS ATRACTIVO.... MÚSICAL EXCELENTE.....Y VOS MÁS ATRACTIVO QUE NUNCA. ALGUIEN CONOCE ALGÚN CORREO O TELÉFONO PARA COMUNICARME CON ÉL Y FELICITARLO?
My brother and I in a pub drinking cold pints.. making our way through all the scampi fries with this song on repeat... about 15years ago now it's scary how time flys... this song always takes me bk to that day.
Apologies...SH \& \cr were the fitrst amazing band of my ers...please, if you are new to them, listen to the first 4 albums...iyt will change your life direction
it wasn't really the right atmosphere i'd imagine to get the crowd involved. you need the energy in the room, they're all sat down. felt awkward really. need the drinks to be flowing too
Steve got better looking, and his voice got better with age, a real man, Rest In Peace, handsome. Bet ur singing with the Angels in Heaven ❤❤
Saw this fellow live at Concert at the Kings. RIP Steve. Sorely missed.

Nailed it with that comment!
RIP Steve, you gave me the best years of our lives, and in your own words of Judy Teen, “ made us appy”
Always missed, forever!
So,so good. How i am happy to be old.It means i grew up with this music. Its worth it just for the music.

People here completely underestimate how hard it is to make Norwegians clap and sing along. Steve Harley is an absolute legend.
Hahaha
@@zmiru One of them is even so nervous he can't clap to the beat. XD It's my own worst nightmare.
I guess Im kinda off topic but do anyone know of a good website to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Reign Eduardo Try flixzone. You can find it by googling =)

We Loved you, Steve!
This was one of my few “perfect” singles.. bloody wonderful!

My favourite record of all time. It’s the silence that does it for me. The guitar solo is the best in the business!
That audience needs to try harder. How can they not be bursting their lungs when they have the man right there.
Fantastic version, absolute amazing! Thank you.

Real music. Real Songs. Real world. Thanks for this music
Solid performance but lame crowd. It is like Steve and the bad are performing in front of a geriatrics ward.

I feel like the older he is the better the singing. Also the orchestra 👌!
For fuck sake man, someone should have dished out a few patsy clines to the audience before he started.

Steve Harley and KORK in Oslo. Brilliant
Steve, just had to have the full orchestra for this classic ❤

Kudos to anyone who can make Norwegians clap on the two and four.
Live in Stockholm on tivoli 1973 awesome concert 👍👍👍
it reminds me of some old sixties hippies, I can't remember who
The words of this song make me think at prince Harry.... BTW, this is by far my favorite version, Steve's voice is amazing and the orchestra is great!
