TBH make me smile is the only song I could name as it has always been a favourite since release.
Nice one Sue. This song, once heard never forgotten ! 🙂
RIP Steve.
I believe that for sure, Pete....amazing song 🤩
Boogie woogie, spanish guitar, shirtless leather jackets and fur collars. hot
Steve’s better known cousins are Ray and Dave Davies of the Kinks
@@markwakefield8533 Really, I had no idea about that....small world and talented family 🤩
@@playitagainsue I learned that familial link reading a biography of the Kinks. Another thing Heavy Rock/Metal in its original form may not have come to pass had it not been for Dave Davies slashing the cones in his speakers which gave rise to the unique Kinks sounds. Another link to one of your favourite artists is that Ray Davies had been a major musical influence of one Paul Weller. Compare Davies and Weller lyrical content and their story-based structure. They’re similar. What do you think?
@@markwakefield8533 Hey Mark, I totally agree with you without the Kinks' sound, we would not have hard rock. I think we can say they are the fathers of hard rock. They set it in motion with their music, especially their early stuff. I will have to look up the lyrics to compare them but I definitely think the sound that the Jam had was very influenced by the Kinks 🤩💙
@@playitagainsue a very early Jam hit “David Watts” was a Ray Davies cover. One you may like? Try Ray’s “Voices in the dark” and “Come Dancing”. I think you love them
@markwakefield8533 I know David Watts but had no idea it was a cover 🤗
Cockney Rebel's original bassist, Paul Jeffreys, was one of those who died in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 in 1988.[6] He was with his bride on their honeymoon.
He died, along with his wife Rachel Jeffreys (née Jones), at the age of 36. The couple were on Pan Am Flight 103 on the way to their honeymoon when the aircraft exploded, the remains falling over the town of Lockerbie in Scotland.

Oh that is terrible. What an awful thing to happen 😪
RIP Mr Nice
❤ What a beautiful tribute , the way you lit up as song went on . This was by far his biggest hit
It reminds me hot summer of 75 and calloused fingers because this was the song I labored to play . And yes those pauses are awesome
Thank you for sharing your first listen but i bet it wont be the last !
This is what cool looked like in 1975
Hi Jesse, thank you so much for your kind words. You bet thus won't be my last time listening to this song. It just made me happy. It is such a feel good song. I bet songs like this made your work day go by so much faster. I miss the 70s...such great music and a sense of freedom 🥰💜
Hi Sue, Steve was a real Gentleman, who always had time for people who wanted to speak to him. The band "Cockney Rebel" was the group. This record hit number one in the UK & is often played at weddings in the UK. The song is about how the original members of the band fell out with him. His very unique vocal style makes this very hard to cover by anyone else. Have a listen to Judy Teen.
Hi Dave, it is too bad the band left him but clearly it left him with this great song. Yes I can see this would be very hard to cover. Did Judy Teen cover this song 😎💜
@@playitagainsue I'm really sorry that I didn't make myself very clear. Judy Teen is another song by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel.
@@daveharris7224 oh ok sorry, Dave...gotcha. i will give it a listen 🥰
I loved his songs. Live, he was phenomenal.
🤗💜
.. Thanks so much for this great tribute and reaction, Sue .. As I mentioned previously, this is one of my favourite songs ever, and I'm so happy that you enjoyed it too .. It was apparently written about his former Cockney Rebel bandmates who Steve felt had deserted him when they left the group .. He was a real character for sure, and yes, his vocal style was quite unique .. RIP Steve
Thank you, Wayne. I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for telling me about this song. I really luked his whole vibe. He seemed like a cool guy. It was such an upbeat happy song. I would not have guessed it came from feelings if betrayal...fascinating. i will definitely listen to this one again 🤩💜
rember vis song n steve, his unique delivery n realxed atitude, he was considered as v phanton of v opera aparantly, didint know he had died, another part of my childhood gne.
So many have gone now...very sad 😪
Sebastian is also a great song by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel
Thanks Joris 🤩
Fun fact :
Steve was almost the first Phantom in Phantom of the Opera
He recorded a video with Sarah Brigham in character and worked on production rehearsals for months but was replaced by Michael Crawford ( a bigger star ) I guess !
Michael who was a sitcom star astounded the world with his voice and performance
Really!! How cool is that. Would love to hear what he would have sounded like as the phantom...excellent fun fact, Jesse 😎💙
Michel Crawford was in Hello Dolly with Barbara Streisand years before 'Frank Spencer'' so had 'previous, shame that Steve missed out though.
Completely forgot Hello Dolly
The video of SH as phantom
Is on UA-cam
It was shot as a promotional toll to raise interest in the musical
@@jessem470 Excellent. Thanks a bunch. I will look for it 🤩
@@jessem470 - Michael's performance as PT Barnum on the London stage was absolutely amazing...juggling, tight rope walking, never left the stage for the entire show!
He was my sister’s landlord
@@pipmaple No way! What a small world 🥰
I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU NEVER MENTIONED THE UNIQUE JACKET.
Haha it is a very cool jacket, Michael. You are right 🤩💜
SORRY I HAVE READ UP ON HIM, NOTHING SPECIAL TO REPORT OTHER THAN HE WAS BADLY ILL AS A KID AND NEARLY DIED AGE 4.THIS SONG WAS NO1 IN UK, BUT WAS HIS ONLY SONG IN THE USA TOP 100 AT 96. GOOD SONG
