  • I wanted to test some of the braids I hade purchased over the past year. I Tested sougayilang 9x, Spectra Extreme, Sea Knight monster W8, JOF, Angryfish sinking braid, Kastking
    Superpower, Kastking Mega 8 and Ryoko Sink braid. Where ever possible in 80Lb but for some I had to buy slightly higher or lower Lb lines.
    I tested Knot strength using the Improved 10 twist Uni knot. If you are interested in knowing where your knot rates for different line types check out the web site www.saltstrong.com/articles/f...
    These guys have been testing all sorts of knots and lines for years and posting the information to help all. They have an interesting web site and a good you tube channel also. They focus mainly on sea fishing as the name would suggest but they have many articles on things like line and knots that cross over to freshwater fishing also.
    So I hope you find this interesting and it helps you choose the best products to spend your hard earned $$$$ on.

    Very informative thank you, I've used a few of these braids for uk shore fishing with multiplier reels my favourite is 4 strand jof in 35lb although the
    Colour fades quite quickly ,

      yes your handy will be the color of the braid the first time out but over all JOF is one of the better braids. I tend to use Jof, Kastking 4 or 8 depending on the set up and the Manster if i want something very soft like on my baitcaster for throwing lures. they are cheap and strong. I don't doubt that some of these higher end braids are better but are they that much better to justify the extra cost and i can change out the china braid like 3-4 times for the same cost as the high end braid. Check out The Line Laboratory on youtube. he tests a lot of braids and is doing a gr8 job at it. very informative.

    I bought some JOF braid, it's great especially for the price, it measures what they say in thickness, unlike other braids that measure way over. Don't go on what the makers say the breaking strength is, it is 0.16mm, my 6lb mono measures 0.23mm, 0.16mm braid comes out to 12lb not 20lb like they say. I tested it and I could lift a bucket with 10lb of water using just the standard UNI Knot. $5.00 for 330 yards its a steal.

      this is good to hear, i ordered the JOF 4 strand 20 pound line (rated at 0.17mm on the website) and was worried if it was going to be way below half the claimed strength. going to be using it for trolling kokanee and trout so should be fine if it gets atleast 12 pounds of breaking strength.

    This is a absolute gem of a video and answered nearly all of my questions on cheap braids. As for the knot test probably should test a fg knot to mono but i suspect that would result in the same as the line test.

      @@Fishinginbangkok saved me a few dollars on making a cheap line mistake and losing a big fish as tempting as it was. I was going to way over lb the line on cheap braid as this older reel is made +30 years ago holding a whopping 380m 0.70mm line. But this video showed me that even going 100lb on cheap stuff its just garbage.
      I ended up getting Daiwa J-braid 8 multi colour 80lb 500m 0.45. Its way overkill for the reels max but it will fill the spool close to max and i can all ways thumb the spool for a little extra.

    I don't know if it's able to be purchased in Thailand but here in the US I been using Hercules braid for the last 6-7yrs with a mono leader to save cutting the braid often.Actually still have the same line I spooled on then and I fish nearly every day.Before that I used Fireline since it hit the market back in the 80's?,but tried a number of different brand name braids like Spiderwire,etc. and always kept going back to Fireline...till I tried Hercules.It's a lot like Fireline, but supposedly with a slightly smaller dia.
    I have been using mostly #30 8 strand for Cats,Striper,etc. and also used it from shore for shark and have brought in 5-5.5' (1.52-1.82m) shark.....still trying to hook up with a ray.Right before the Covid BS started I bought a Penn Squall 60 and a 50/80 rod to use as my dedicated shark/ray rods but haven't been able to use it yet...along with the #70 Hercules.
    I use the Hercules on every rod I own,line ranges from #6,10,20,30,40,and 70 test.The #6 and 10 can only be bought in 4 strand and the rest can be either 4 or 8 strand.
    Last I bought it it was cheaper than everything else on Amazon,but I don't know now.
    When tying on a swivel all I use is a Clinch Knot,depending on dia. it'll wrap it 10-15 times before running the tag through the loop at the eye.

    Just a comment on the Ryoko sink braid, I bought a few spools of it while there last time in 80lb and a low diameter (I think) 20lb. The 80lb works well, but the 20 has lots of weak spots in it where it rips apart under very little pressure, I might have been unlucky with the spools I bought but it's something to look out for

    • @Fishinginbangkok
      @Fishinginbangkok  Рік тому

      Hi M8. to be honest i have never brought the line in anything other than 80Lb. for lower Lb line i tend to use the kastking stuff as it so much cheaper. Did you know Thainana closed the Mekong carp lake and they have netted the lake and sold the fish. i was told they are doing the same with the amazon lake also.

    • @brendandaly1
      @brendandaly1 Рік тому

      @@Fishinginbangkok I didnt know that, thats a shame, lovely place to fish. The amazon lake was just too expensive imo and I guess the mekong lake just didnt get enough business, was always really quiet there

    • @Fishinginbangkok
      @Fishinginbangkok  Рік тому

      @@brendandaly1 agree and agree. When Palm tree is 4500b a day for 2-3 rods including bait and you can fish for predators and the biggest carp in Thailand. Asking i think it’s like 6-7000b for a day’s bait fishing on the amazon lake for one rod is a little overpriced. In my mind their amazon lake should be 2000-2500b a rod. and as for the carp Mekong Lake it was completed in like 2018-2019 then covid hit so no wonder business was slow. They haven't done a good job advertising it and then they go and push the price up when from Bangkok you must travel 30 min past Bungsamran. Most Thais just go Bungsamran to save the time and gas. People complained the bites were slow on the Mekong Lake as the stock was never high given the size of the lake. Rather than sell all the fish i would think building a bank 1/2 way down the carp lake then moving all the fish to the other side to get the stock levels up would be a better idea. Then stock the empty side with something different.
      looks like its just going to be snakehead and tilapia now. no way i am driving over an hr for tilapia.

      @@Fishinginbangkok Last time I was there I think it was 7k for just four hours fishing on the predator lake, possibly lost in translation but I think what they meant was four hours of deadbait fishing and the rest was just lure fishing. Very expensive for what it was never mind the fact that the fish seemed tame they were so unused to angling pressure you could call the araipaima by just clapping your hands ! The mekong lake was okay, well set up and a bit of a mixture of fish in it but there are other places just as good and closer to BKK, Wangwalee was a place I went to last time from a video you did and is a really nice spot to fish and not expensive, definitely will spend some time there when I'm over in October. For predators you cant go wrong with Amazon BKK. Never been to Palm Tree it's on my list for next trip over

      @@UnsulliedFishermann i am sorry i am not aware of this reel and its sizes. different manufactures use different sizes for there reels a 5000 shimano oc will be different to a pen spin-fisher and to a ryobi. there is normally some information on the box or printed on the side of the reel spool that shows you how much of different Lb lines can fit on to the reel. these are usually the LB lines the manufacture thought the reel would be used for. the other thing to consider is what fish you are likely to catch where you fish and is the area full of snags if so you may want to go heavier with the line in case you hit a snag you have more chance to pull the fish out.
