Awesome tutorial! - I am a newbie to this type of equipment - previously using a standard audio interface (focusrite) in my basement studio. I was intimidated by all the knobs and this tutorial made me feel at ease. I chose this at Guitar Centar because I needed more manual control and options for live (Facebook) that I couldn't get with the old set up. First video was John from Yamaha introducing the mg series. Then I clicked on this one cuz it said mg16 demo. Lo and behold, John from Yamaha is also in this vid.
I want Yamaha to put one or two INSERTS in all standard mixer models in future, because we facing problem in using in certain cases. In such cases, we need another pro mixer. What you think? Adding 2 inserts will cost Yamaha? Not at all; It will sell more.

I've noticed the modern mixing board is no longer catering to the mix engineer. People who like to mixdown from a workstation through a board would love to have a compressor on each channel .... just in case.
I'm not sure about that - this is an entry level mixing desk and is perfect for the band mixing themselves but probably does not have the extended functionality to satisfy a dedicated mix engineer with external compressors, gates, EQs etc.
They crammed too much into the same size box on the MG20XU. I think than is the only difference though other than the extra channels. The MG16XU is the best if you don't need 20 channels.
There are only two digital out channels via USB. You can get a good drum mix and record it as a stereo file, but you are turn limited in the mix. You really need an audio interface with multiple inputs and a desk with multiple individual outputs.
Felix Richards the USB interface is essentially just a replacement for a two track in and out. This gives you two mono channels or one stereo channel to record from - in both cases what ever your sending to the main out of the board. You would use the pan to address the stereo out as two mono separate channels. If you want a multi track interface/mixer this board is not for you.
Yes, the USB functions as a two-way stereo connection, the board is powered independently with an external transformer brick. The lack of independent monitor channel composition means it is pretty useless for gigs but I'm pretty happy with the 10-channel one for solo voiceover work.
The closest thing to an independent monitor channel is you have the option of routing the incoming USB pair (which looks like a speaker to the computer's software) to just the monitor jack (headphone levels) or it can be routed to the main mix. The USB output, which looks like a stereo microphone to the computer, digitizes the main L/R mix without an independent level pot. It's not anywhere near as flexible as I'd like but I can get a reference track and my isolated microphone into my headset with no latency while capturing the mic with a high-quality digitizer, so it meets my "must have" goals.
To be clear, I'm talking about the MG10XU which has three-knob EQ and no explicit monitor channels. Obviously the one in the video has monitor channels and a more elaborate EQ section than mine.
You could do some clever routing to involve external gear, but this is an entry level desk and doesn't have those kind of features. You'll have to spend a bit more money, do without your external effects or get clever with the routing.

I love my MG16XU! This mixer is great! Having a sweepable Mid is essential...The built in compressors are a wonderful.
I suppose to cut or boost in a flexible range in the mid frequency area

Can you use BUS out to the mixer to do out of the box mixing? or it this only a recording mixer? TIA

hi can we use condenser microphone direct connection for live performance. i have not idea about mixer.
I wouldn't recommend condensers for live gigs at all, you will have a lot of nose picked up
