The song stands out from many boss battle themes and as a piece on its own because of the stark changes in intensity and voice across the run time. It goes from "Oh S#!*, I'm Screwed!" To "Wait, I can do it!" to Take this $#!# 2023!!!" Almost like it goes from the BOSS's theme to the PLAYER's theme. And we feel it all! Masterful in every area.
One of my favourite things about this song is how they made it line up with the game, the music changes as the phases change, as well as when the boss is about to do different moves or throw you between arenas. It's one of my favourite things about video game music, it can be so dynamic and the work that the the devs, composers, and everyone in between puts in to make it that way is incredible.
The Sha'Hala music, both physical and spectral are great. The Imposter Kings is amazing, you can tell when the boss stops playing with you like a egotistical cat, and takes you as a real threat. The new music for Lydusa is also a top contender. This game had no business making the music so good. I recommend giving all the world boss songs a chance.
This song is actually a lot better accompanied by the boss because a lot of his attacks are kind of queued with the music and their own sound effects to the point that actually fighting it almost like a dance.
When Phase 2 starts its actually playing portions of the Final boss of Remnant 1 the dreamer. Kind of implying that annihilation is basically a recreation of the dreamer explaining the whole phase 2 mechanic
It’s theorised that annihilation is the dragon that coaxed the dreamer into killing all the guardians in the prequel game. The music linking back to the dreamer fight would make complete sense if it ends up being true.
@@energyvanquishGiven that root earth was essentially a mirror of the protagonist’s earth, it’s very likely that Annhilation is the mirrored version of the Dreamer. Similarly, Cancer is likely the Harsgard of root Earth given that his theme from the first game plays for the boss.
I think people hear "soulslike" and think "ripoff," but Remnant earns every bit of praise it receives and deserves so much more. Remnant 2 is such a good game. (And dear god I probably look like an astroturfer but hear me out, this is the first shooter in years that I've actually enjoyed) So much love was put into this game and into making it not just "good enough to release" but GREAT.
I would almost consider it a souls game outright, similar to how some people consider Lies of P to be one too. Simply incredible quality from both, loved remnant 2, got the dlcs recently and am trying to complete Sparks quest 😭
I agree that this boss is one of the best, not just in the visuals and music but mechanically as well. The audio cues of the boss’ attacks are soo satisfying once you get used to them, in fact I did a run on Apocalypse difficulty and I thought it was gonna be the hardest fight but it turns out the second to last boss was the hardest (At least to me). Very immersive fight, that’s what good boss should strive to be, immersive. But of course, people are different so this is my opinion.
Yea this boss fight was so incredibly fun. Took me 5 hours in the middle of the night on nightmare my first playthrough and it never felt BS when I died, and there was constant progress being made with each attempt. It's one of those fights where you wish you could erase your memory so you can play it again blind. Up there as one of my top 5s
Remnant 2 has so many memorable tracks, even the ambient music has so much character and changes completely according to the nature of the area the player is in. So glad Marco decided to give us his perspective on such an amazing score.
Oh my GOD! I have been waiting for this beautiful game for MONTHS! MARCO! You’re gonna love every second of it! I bought both entire albums on iTunes, and Rob Westwood is an artistic genius! Okay: the recommendations are: both Sha’Hala, Guardian of Nerud songs, The Red Prince, Echoes of Bells Beneath a Crimson Moon (Corrupted Ravager), The Huntress (Personal Favorite), Venom, and finally, the returning masterpiece: Shades of Root (Cancer)! I’ve unlocked every achievement in the game, and beat it on both Apocalypse difficulty, and Hardcore Veteran difficulty. I love this game, and I think you’re gonna love it, too!
Ye but most people mute music at boss fights.. lot of attacks can be identified by sounds so any other sounds are make it much harder :D its shame though music is really good.
@@krushbrokdar If you mean that due to high difficulties, yeah - I doubt it's "most people" though. I don't think most people can vibe to the music on Apocalypse, I have to agree with that. But this boss (and the cubebois too) really hit a special place as boss experiences with their respective themes.
@@kimlee6643 Yeah of course sounds helps most at the start when you met the boss for the first time.. after you already remember everything it does it's up to everyone taste. For me i am just used to listen to attacks more so i made music volume to minimum so even if i know what to do i keep it at low volume to not get distracted.
This is so interesting. Because the song borders on unfocused with just how many styles are used for this song. But the transitions are just so clean it blends them together so smoothly, that it works.
The thing is, all those different styles fit not only the boss fight, but the LORE of the boss fight perfectly. You go from fighting a giant dragon made of wood in dark and scary realm, to some very odd, glitching, electronic world. Why? Because the Root (the main antagonists of the game) are strongly implied to be, in essence, malware on the source code of the multiverse. They corrupt reality itself. You aren't just fighting a wooden monster, you are fighting what amounts to a virus in reality.
God, the music in this game is easy s-tier. Its so unbelievably good. Remnant 2 and Remnant: Ftom the Ashes both have stellar music. Some of the best include: Last Stand of the Wicked (R:FTA) Shades of the Root (Cancer) (R2) Echoes of Bells Beneath a Crimson Moon (R2) The Fight to stay Awake (R:FTA) If you get to listen to any/all of these, keep an ear wide for the first two. I recommend listening to the Remnant 1 track and THEN the Remnant 2 track. There's something special about those two pieces.
"Hey wanna fight a tree dragon?" "What if it could teleport?" "Wanna see it use a bigass sword?" "Still not enough? How about now it makes YOU teleport?"
FINALLY!!!! I recommended this on the patreon a while back! I hope you check out more of the themes, there are even some bosses that have different themes due to how they were interacted with in the story. Specifically the boss Sha'Hala, boss are unique yet enough familiarity to connect the two versions.
The pervasive synthscapes are kind of like the glue of the remnant ost, all the different worlds have completely different themes but the synth helps them all feel like a part of the same universe.
You should check out Shahala (Physical) and Shahala (Spectral) back to back. Rob Westwood has been underrated for a good minute but the way he showed his range (esp in tracks like those that change based on player choice) with Remnant 2 he's really showing he deserves to be mentioned right alongside the greats of our industry like Mansell, Gordon, and Yu-peng Chen IMO. Annihilation is crazy. It's one of my favorite boss fights because while you're playing it you realize that every single audio cue matters, you realize the game has been pushing you towards this point the entire time. It's been teaching you everything you need to know and now it's time to execute. And in the moment you finally understand and succeed the music swells and you almost feel like the developers are behind your back celebrating your understanding pushing you towards victory. I love Remnant so much. The new DLC music is insane too.
Legitamately the best final boss in any video game ever made, the design of the fight is perfect. You can practically fight it like a rhythm game since every attack is clearly choreographed with their own attack and sound cues. The 2nd phase of this boss has one of the best mechanics I've ever seen in gaming flat out that requires you to lock in more than anything else I've ever fought. Struggled so so hard on this one for hours when the game released but after finally beating the game on the hardest difficulty you learn this boss like nothing else. When every fight against it you can do a no-hit not out of exceptional skill but rather mastery over the timing and mechanics and dodges with the game it feels like nothing else and beats any other boss fight in a souls game.
YESSSSSS join us! Become Paxelteck Destroyer of Worlds hahaha Criminally underrated soundtrack I’m super happy to hear you break this down haha thank you 👏🏽
Man, can’t believe you’re looking at Remnant 2’s soundtrack now. If you do keep this up, gotta say you have to check out The “Imposter Kings.” It’s one of the few boss fights with several unique phases and the music shifts to reflect that as well.
I ended up memorizing this bosses moves and attack paterns based on the sound ques so much that I ended perfecting my perfect dodges. Down side is that i get messed up when playing with others due to getting messed up when the boss focuses on anyone else but me🙃
YES!!! So happy you’re listening to remnant music, I highly recommend Haarsgaard and Ravager from the first game, and like almost any boss theme from Remnant 2. Sha’hala’s theme’s have to be some of my favorites Edit: i forgot to mention Mother Mind, and of course, You Shall Rise, the ABSOLUTELY INSANE end credits song. Rob did an incredible job with this entire soundtrack, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did
Im glad you picked up and mentioned what i thought- the first part is all about the boss and its overwhelming power- and the latter section as it builds, is about YOU- it builds into an athem for the players triumph as you get closer to beating it :) I dunno if I recall hearing that in a boss music before- normally it would only throw in some triumphant bit of music once you actually beat it.
I love the coincidence of this because just the other night I did a reclear of Remnant II story to In prep for the next DLC that came out just a day ago
I'm a little late, but I'm so glad you checked this one out. Annihilation is probably my favorite piece in all the games I've played, and has been since I beat the game. It's truly a standout track to me. great video Marco
LETSGO some Remnant! So glad it got you so hooked! \o/ I can't remember if you listened to the first Remnant in the past, but if you didn't, I _strongly_ recommend "Black Wolf and Bloodshed" and "The Fight to Stay Awake", who are in my all time best boss themes list of all games! As usual thank you for sharing your experience, it's always such a pleasure ^^
You should totally watch the gameplay that goes along, I think it really helps set the scene! For this, I think the song really changes up when you see the character enter the glitch world, making the song sound totally different yet fitting.
We've finally arrived at the best soundtrack of 2023, glad to see you're giving it a listen. I recommended Sha'Hala, Guardian of N'Erud (Spectral) in that form you did some months back, hope you get around to hearing it
I’ve been wanting you to hear this soundtrack since it first came out. Very glad you’re getting around to it. Hopefully you can get in touch with Rob Westwood for an interview at some point.
The phase transitions that are intertwined between the music and gameplay make the encounter such a treat After you learn the first phase, the game congratulates you with a massive orchestral victory theme, but then the boss reveals his ace in the sleeve switching both forms causing the music to come back from your theme to a combined struggle of both sides.
Lol I never got to even hear this track because I had to mute the music just to hear the audio ques since this boss will attack from off screen very often. This is one of the hardest bosses in gaming (espcially on apocalypse) and those ques are essential for knowing when to time your dodges. Honestly it was my game of the year for '23
Omg!! Omg thank you very much for reacting to this!! I was waiting for it from the first time I heard it! Hopefully you can react to other osts of the same game! And I think they are amazing! EXCELLENT VIDEO!
i would love to hear your thoughts on "the red prince" from the same game, its taken over as my favorite OST from "crowfather" from darksiders 2 (funnily enough from the same devs like 10 years earlier)
Really great analysis Marco! Reacting to Annihilation for your first time listening to Remnant 2 is a lot to unpack, it has many layers that came from different themes that you've heard throughout the game and i was so surprised that Rob Westwood managed to perfectly arranged the transition for each themes very smoothly and flawlessly. Remnant 2 soundtrack is my personal best music album from 2023, and i bet as an Opera singer yourself you would enjoy this album as well (it has 2 volumes so it really has a lot of music). I recommend to check out the main theme as your starter. It has 2 version, a track called "Main Menu" is a shorter version of the theme to familiarize yourself with the leitmotif and "You Shall Rise" is the extended version featuring THE legendary epic music singer Merethe Solvetd. My personal favorite is the "Imposter Kings", that track hooked me instantly and it was at that time i decided to bought the album myself, worth it!
I’m not sure if it was just coincidence or not, but the latest patch/DLC just dropped right before this video 😅 Good excuse to jump in for the first time! Really enjoyed my time with the game.
Awesome to see Remnant 2 on the channel, I'd list out my recommendations but every piece on the soundtrack is my favourite. Impostor Kings is the standout to me though.
yeah, remnant 2 is just... chef's kiss. It's far from perfect, but goddamn, it''s SUCH a trip. And this boss was amazing, BRUTAL anbd beautiful. (the game is a different experience with friends btw, highly reccomend)
To me, the theme always conveyed the message of I’m going to win this because I have to. I always liked how the music changed from Annihilation’s to ours much like how you both are trading blows in the actual fight
My dear friend i just wanted to say a huge thanks for introducing us to the epic music of ace combat .I just keep listening to this song hours unend ""Daredevil" - Ace Combat 7" It is so so amazing .Big thanks!
That's why I like the sound track of Remnant II. The variety in music here is just incredible. Each OST in different worlds in this game is unique in its own way. Rob did a good job making every track in this game appropriate for the instruments and style of music in each world. The real creativity is in the boss tracks which, in addition to using different instruments, are intertwined with the visual component to create incredible feelings and emotions during the game.
I'm so glad to finally see remnant get the recognition it deserves reaction-wise! If you enjoyed this, I'd love it if you reacted to Sha'hala, guardian of N'erud (specifically the spectral version) or maybe even both versions. I think it would be interesting for you to listen to both as the context of the fight reflects in the music.
The fight is actually designed to go with the music and just works so well in-game. Please give The Labyrinth Sentinel a listen as well. Its another boss theme from Remnant 2 for prob my second favorite fight in the game!
All I can say, is that the boss is just a complex, just as dense, as the music, and not in a bad way, either. It is a really fun fight to do, especially with friends.
Annihilation is the core of Root. The Root in reality is a computer virus that corrupts the data that is reality/existence in Remnant. In the ending everything is breaking down in white cubes or bytes of data. The electronic/synth section of the track makes complete sense in that regard.
Somehow it reminds me of "Waltz of the Tornado" from WT, with all these sudden changes in the style and going from complete dread to the feeling that we can make it. And also something else which I can't really grasp onto.
I got the first game years ago on a sale, and i'm happy it succeeded on the 2nd outing now, and the music totally improved just like everything else. If this will at all be seen by you, there's a game called Hunt: Showdown, that has insane music in it that completely surpasses the quality of most game ost's, it's performed by Port Sulphur band, who are also on spotify and some tracks are in topic channels on youtube as well, I think you'll find them extremely enjoyable.
On my first playthrough I was so scared and focused on not dying, that I paid no mind to the music at all, imagine my stupid ass the second time, when I’m much more experienced and clam, and I get face blasted by this masterpiece of a track… marvelous
Oh yes, I have waited for this for so long! Rob did an amazing job on this game's soundtrack, and I actually do love every track, but man, Annihilation really stands out. This moment when - after the story of two games - you finally stand before the embodiment of extinction. The root of all "evil". Annihilation (literally). And then the soundtrack kicks in and you know this is gonna be epic. This fight really was a journey in itself. One of my favourite boss fights in gaming history. And the music captures this brilliantly. What a masterpiece. After this the credits roll with the track "You Shall Rise", which is an extended version of the main theme with lyrics. It's beautiful. And after going through countless heart attacks (depending on the difficulty you just faced Annihilation on - and wether you did it solo or with friends), this is the perfect track to calm down and reflect on what you just experienced.
I love this song and for a final boss song it's amazing robwestwood did amazing with this also i would love to see you listen the other songs from remnant 2 especially since the dlcs are out
You know this is the hardest boss because Remnant II is a game that heavily use sound cue for boss attacks and you definitely don't want to turn down the music volume.
My friends and I lost all composure during the second phase change. In addition to understanding what The Dreamer is from the previous game, we went positively ballistic. We also died very quickly, but that’s beside the point LOL
Remnant from the Ashes and Remnant 2 are basically what happens if you take Dark Souls, but make it a 3rd person shooter. Fantastic worlds, lots of unique guns and mods for them, a TON of bosses of all shapes and sizes, and LORE of course😉👍🏻 Hopefully you try it some day.
Remnant 2 has a lot of great music and I'd love if you came back to it, Impostor kings and Red Prince in particular are incredable, but I honestly think most Losomn and Yaesha tracks would suit your taste.
What is incredible to me is the heroic parts of the song. It's meant yo make you feel like you are the hero defeating the evil villain and saving the world....But that's a lie, a trick, this song this game and this sage isn't about us triumphing over evil. It is The Root's story, The Root is the protagonist, the hero of the story. It is the champion freeing all worlds and life from pain, at least that is what it believes, with the ultimate end being that we DON'T Triumph over it, we ultimately loose, as the realization that The Root has imbedded its self into all of reality, all of existence. The Root has won and there is no stopping it, it is the champion that saved all of reality from life, from existence with the only way to stop it being to reset all of reality A wonderful end to the story, a wonderful theme for a wonderful character and boss that became a true god of its own justice
This is one of my favorate games for so many reasons, the music only being one. The annaialation theme is truly excellent and gives me goose bumps to even hear. Though as someone who's beaten the game on apoc, the gameplay in the background has some flaws.
I wonder why not many people reacting YuGioH Master Duel BGM, I know it just a card game but some of their BGMs are quite a banger, for example "Keycard Theme #3"
Remnant 2 has some great tracks, mine actually being the main menu music of all tracks. You should seriously play it, it's a great game with a dlc coming out this today actually! (April 23rd for me) Idk if you will see this or if this is the right place to recommend tracks but you should check out some tracks from There Came An Echo, a game that never really got that much attention, (probably because of the gimmick where you use your mic to tell your people what to do,) but with a pretty good soundtrack. My two favorite tracks are Never Coming Back and Signs. I would love to hear your take on both tracks, and anyone else's of course if you know what i'm talking about!
Hey Marco, this made my day, thanks! 😁
aw man hey Rob!

I'm a little late, but I'm so glad you checked this one out. Annihilation is probably my favorite piece in all the games I've played, and has been since I beat the game. It's truly a standout track to me. great video Marco
LETSGO some Remnant! So glad it got you so hooked! \o/
I can't remember if you listened to the first Remnant in the past, but if you didn't, I _strongly_ recommend "Black Wolf and Bloodshed" and "The Fight to Stay Awake", who are in my all time best boss themes list of all games!
As usual thank you for sharing your experience, it's always such a pleasure ^^
Main theme for Remnant: From the ashes is my all time favourite in video games.
Quality! I mentioned this forever ago!!!
Glad to see it didn't disappoint!
And now we are getting the DLC with the focus on flutes :P
I love that they Incorporated main theme for remnant into this boss fight music.
Annihlation is such a great boss fight and the music is appropriately epic. Remnant 2 is such a great game.
The phase transitions that are intertwined between the music and gameplay make the encounter such a treat
After you learn the first phase, the game congratulates you with a massive orchestral victory theme, but then the boss reveals his ace in the sleeve switching both forms causing the music to come back from your theme to a combined struggle of both sides.
Finally! We've arrived to Remnant 2! It's so full of absolute banger tracks that I cant wait for Marco to listen to. :D
i would love to hear your thoughts on "the red prince" from the same game, its taken over as my favorite OST from "crowfather" from darksiders 2 (funnily enough from the same devs like 10 years earlier)
God Annihilation is SUCH a cool track.
Remnant 2 was a game full of incredible music, and this is definitely one of the best.
Omg, Marco I requested this so much! You don’t know how happy I am you get to listen to this masterpiece!
please please please listen to The Red Prince that theme is so good-
The Nightweaver fight music is so good. You should give it a listen
The music of hard stuck for at least an hour
To me, the theme always conveyed the message of I’m going to win this because I have to. I always liked how the music changed from Annihilation’s to ours much like how you both are trading blows in the actual fight
My dear friend i just wanted to say a huge thanks for introducing us to the epic music of ace combat .I just keep listening to this song hours unend ""Daredevil" - Ace Combat 7" It is so so amazing .Big thanks!
My pleasure - it’s incredible
The song that goes from warcraft evil march to some march of the machines nonsense suddenly
I've got a great recommendation, If I can stop one heart breaking from star rail. Love your reaction videos Marco!
Just reminded me that I need to finish remnant 2. Ragequit during the final boss's second stage and reset my entire playthrough lol
Great video - really enjoyed this since I played the final boss fight with the music turned off! Must try it again full volume. Thanks.
Idk if u did a video of it yet but u gotta listen to the “huntress” ost in remnant 2
If you haven't played Remnant 2 Marco, you really should give it a go, this is pretty much how to do a Shooter-Souls-like RIGHT. Highly recommended!
This game is peak you should see the ward themes and chronos before the ashes
"The imposter Kings Faelin/Faerin" is a really good one as well if you want to dive more into Remnant 2 boss ost's
Yes!!!!! I hope to god he sees this
Oh yes, I have waited for this for so long!
I love this song and for a final boss song it's amazing robwestwood did amazing with this also i would love to see you listen the other songs from remnant 2 especially since the dlcs are out
Damn I can't believe I didn't see this for 2 weeks given how close I was to dm'ing you to ask if you could react to this for almost 2 months now
You know this is the hardest boss because Remnant II is a game that heavily use sound cue for boss attacks and you definitely don't want to turn down the music volume.
The soundtrack of this game surprized me. Really didn't expect it to be THAT good.
\o/. I wonder if we'll get "You shall rise" in another year or so.
Already saw it, and damn that was a nice reaction! I drop a like and hope you people will enjoy it as I enjoy seeing it! 🔥
4:24 “uh oh”
“It’s like seeing God” Me too Marco, me too.
11:21 for me phase 2 is, "oh fuck he is glitching out!!!"
My friends and I lost all composure during the second phase change. In addition to understanding what The Dreamer is from the previous game, we went positively ballistic.
We also died very quickly, but that’s beside the point LOL
Oh yes. It's time. There are so many good tracks from this game mate. Love your work! 🙏
I’ve played both lol
The Root has won and there is no stopping it, it is the champion that saved all of reality from life, from existence with the only way to stop it being to reset all of reality
A wonderful end to the story, a wonderful theme for a wonderful character and boss that became a true god of its own justice
Cruelty Squad would be awesome to see!
I would love to hear your take on both tracks, and anyone else's of course if you know what i'm talking about!
shoutout to @RobWestwood great music for RFTA and Remnant 2
Also recomend impostor king theme/ faerin and faelin theme.
