Side note for everyone about Pantheon - he fits so well with the song because he has the powers of a god but is a man. His whole thing is the indomitable will of humanity, so he literally lives for the "glory of the fall" as he relentlessly tries to climb the mountain in the name of humanity no matter how many times he fails. Another little detail is he puts his spear down to fight the human guards, but picks his spear back up to fight Leona - an aspect, a pawn of the gods like he was, who is not entirely human anymore. His inclusion absolutely adds to the emotion of the music imo.
And the lady on a Boar is called Sejuani, leader of a tribe called the Winters Claw, which is at war with Avarosans aka Ashe and Tryndamere (Still here cinematic the man too angry to die and the frost lady with a bow) of the frozen land called Freljord. Plus the man with viking helmet and 2 axes is Olaf, someone who was prophecised that he will die of old age, so as long as he keeps fighting he is basically immortal. To add Leona is basically the goddes of the sun and Kai'sa is a girl that got sucked into the void at young age so she learnt to survive by symbiosing herself with a void creature. The void creatures int the desert are the Xer'sai and the huge one that got Kai'sa is their broodmother called Rek'sai.
@@tomsrudzitis4942 Specifically in this video, Sejuani has split up the winters claw because their horn of everlasting food(i dont remember exactly what it is) has been stolen by the Ursine(shapeshifting cult followers of Volibear) because Volibear has decided that the people of frejlord specifically the Winter's claw are living too comfortably.
I truly love the lyrics of this song. Despite no longer play League, haven't for two years, and never will because of things I disagree, a lot of the music they commission and produce is something one can still enjoy.
this piece always makes me think of it being sung by an army ready to go into a fight they know is doomed, but refuse to abandon and the simplicity of it is definitely a big part of it
Some lore tidbits about Ornn since hes my main 😂 Ornns followers were all slaughtered by the Volibear creating the first river (a river of their blood) only recently some Hearthblood (The name of Ornns followers) have started showing themselves again although Ornn does not want to involve himself with them again since he doesnt want to bear the guilt of it again. As well as Ornn making weapons is a big thing since hes never made weapons before, so him making weapons is a sign of him preparing for something coming. Its been a while since ive refreshed on the lore so im paraphrasing a bit but i think i got most of it. Great video as always Marco!! Love hearing your breakdowns
Well he’s made a lot of weapons in the past but yeah he’s taken a long break after his fight with Voli. (no idea exactly how long it’s supposed to have been but awhile for an immortal dude)
No bro the first river was made through the blood of rhond the magma serpent who was also sa demigod was killed by the volibear check it in the runeterra cards
I was going to comment about this as well. The fact that Ornn is making a weapon at all is not in his nature since he never cared for war or battle. It was a huge part of his fall-out with Valhir (or "The Volibear"), valhir wanting to sew discord to the humans would continue to embrace their ferocious side.
Ornn *had* a group of followers, the Hearthblood. They were slaughtered in a conflict between him and his brother, the Volibear, and Ornn retreated deep into the heart of the mountain for solitude. After that loss, Ornn vowed to never craft another weapon of war. That's why him forging a sword is such a big deal - it's a literal presentation of "a time to take up arms, and a time to lay them to rest," and it's honestly the most heavy part of this music video to me.
The main characters in this cinematic are Ornn, Sejuani, Olaf (the burlier viking dude with the two axes), the ursine (volibear cultist), Talliah, Kai'sa(body suit girl), Rek'sai (and her broodlings), Pantheon, the solari, and Leona (Another aspect, like pantheon, but of the sun instead of war) The meteors MIGHT be Aurelion Sol, but could also just be a cosmic event happening around Mount Targon. Oh, and Bristle, cant forget Bristle.
Hey mr. Meatball, I just watched you reviewing "Still Here" and I liked it a lot, it's nice to hear you putting in words so people may understand their feelings towards music better I wanted to talk about the Kindred. They were born from the agonyzing solitude of death, so it tore itself apart with an ax, diving in the Wolf, who merciless hunts those who runs from death, and the lamb, who will always peacefully greet all those who accept them. They despise being are somehow immortal, like Amumu (cursed immortal) and Tryndamere (as seen, he literally fights the Kindred). They are one of the most beautifully written characters in League
Also you could see Kindred's siloute in the fire that engulfed Aatrox who is also immortal yet is yearning for death and escape from the torture he lives in that blade.
Ahhhh I just adore this series of you - Guessing the Champion by his Music -; sometimes it tells us even more about the characters then their lore or their speechlines! Can't wait for more and Thank U Marco for putting in so much!^-^
Soo, the thing Taliyah and Kai'sa are fighting is a race called Xer'sai. Thy came from the void(Bel'Veth came rom there too). The litle one is the brood, and the big one is called Rek'sai, who is the wueen of their race.
Man, I love this song so much, this and awaken are the two hypest cinematics we ever had (with still here a close second). I just love the music, how it goes from soft and sober to a rumbling crescendo to the first apex, then down again and up for the final bombastic finale. It is so hype! I also like how you're slowly getting into the lore, recognising characters and I think it's clear how passionate you are by how much you remember about each one. Thanks for your content, it's always a pleasure :D
This was a great video once again! I love how you really get into the music and break it down into an understandable pack of why it makes us feel like it does
Please look into Arcane's soundtrack! There are so many incredible songs, they are all definitely worth a breakdown! (Especially Guns for Hire and What Could Have Been)
Something i really enjoy as a long time league player, its that there are people that have never played the games but know the character what there lore is.
There is a music filled with emotion and sadness with sorrow that Riot created and was played in the final episode of Arcane (a league of legends series in Netflix with 9 episodes) *the name of the song is "What could have been"*. The violin in this and the singer makes this music in *my opinion* THE BEST of riot music so far.
Pantheon sentence where he remind himself about silence after battle make me goosebumps all time. Alone, around just death, ugly smells and darkness filled his heart, sacrafice, lonely man who understands only war, this war is everything what he have. Now is just a silence Human, Warrior who destroy higher power of Darkin Just a man, who stand against the gods. Just man Whatever game is, lore and music with video is another level of art.
I know I am super late on this, but I dont think I saw anyone point this out in the comments. At 7:41 the rumbling percussion is actually a reference to the creature on screen. Her name is Rek’sai and she is blind, sensing the world through tremor sense, hence going to just the percussion portion of the song!
Pantheon isn't exactly a god. TL;DR of his lore is that Atreus (the man who became Pantheon) was possessed by the god of war Pantheon. Pantheon then fought a Darkin (basically corrupted God-Warriors) and lost, dying in the process. However, Atreus was able to survive through his willpower and has since usurped the powers of the now dead God's powers. Vowing to fight not for the good of the world, or to carry on the God's purpose. But to defend mankind, to succeed as a mortal where not even Gods were able to. Edit: To add a little bit of context with Atreus (Pantheon)'s fight with the woman at the top of the mountain. They are from the same tribe and both took on the ritual to be possessed by a God, with her God being one of The Sun/Light instead of War. Atreus, having stolen the powers of a now dead God, fights a God who has "stolen" the body of a friend from his childhood. Both sides fighting not just themselves but the greater evil the Darkin bring.

Awesome video as always, my man! The purple chick is Kai'Sa. She has her own theme and so does the big monster bursting from the ground, Rek'Sai. The chick with the shield fighting Pantheon is Leona, the chick riding the boar is Sejuani and the viking dude with the axes is Olaf. Unfortunately, they don't have themes but Leona's ex-girlfriend, Diana, does, for what it's worth. Leona's a vessel for the Sun Goddess stopping Pantheon from entering the realm of the gods. Sejuani's a Warmother, a tribal matriarch, leading her starving people to a magic artifact that can feed her people, guarded by Volibear's monstrous followers, the Ursine, and Olaf's more-or-less her right-hand man who seeks to die in battle after being told by a fortune-teller that he would die peacefully in his sleep. To me this song is a dying warriors plea to the personification of death. The singer is begging to stay and continue the fight to the end. They are fighting the last battle or are the last line of defense but are dying and death has come for them. They plead the case that they need to finish the battle, the people that they are protecting come in as the chorus in solidarity. They are joining the prayer and plea that their champion will stand up and keep fighting. Then, when the female singer comes in, that to me is the personification of death joining in, convinced by their pleas and prayers. They repeat it to the fallen warrior in solidarity and it feels like you can see their hand reaching out, not to help them move on but to pick them up and continue the fight. It’s inspirational because they get the chance to finish the fight but melancholy because they are still going to die at the end of the battle. It’s a postponement of death. A rise to the call, for the glory and the fall.
