I love how Koleda is portrayed as such a competent leader. She isn’t a savant, or some kind of superhuman, but she has a grasp on ways to motivate people. These days, it’s actually quite rare for the “boss” to be actually adept motivating the crew, the boss is usually someone who needs to somehow “find the strength” to make a rousing speech or something.

I'm 40 years old and I'm vibing with this game so much, can't explain, and especially with Ellen. But all in all, I love this game, cause, exactly what you said, this feels so nostalgic and gives me the feeling of the late 90's early 2000's. I just love it. It's so full of story, the characters are so alive. Hope there comes more.

This is honestly one of the best uses of an hour. Yeah the story is casual and easy, even on "Challenge" mode. But like every gacha game, the story is only like 20% of the experience. The rest of the game isn't so easy.

Only Cinema 1 on him but anyone who also has Piper, Throw Nicloe in and you have really high burst team with nicole as CC and disorder proc source with her corruption buildup.

I really suggest you take a listen to Polyphia, which is an american prog metal band from which i THINK mihoyo was really inspired from when composing for Ellen. Just take "ABC" as an example from their discography and compare it to Ellen's main theme, they're basically the same lmao Keep being awesome, much love from Italy.

I think the biggest thing about ZZZ is its literally Slice of Life the game. In ZZZ were just going about our daily lives with an apocalypse around us. Wake up, open the store, do our daily scratch off, have a coffee, eat some noodles, do some commissions, go to bed, rinse and repeat. Characters go to school, go to work, hang out with friends. Makes the game feel more relatable.

For Mana's song, Nyanners is certainly an acquired taste. She always sounds like she wants to whisper you a secret. Some people just don't like whispering. Ellen probably doesn't want to join any school clubs because she knows she'll end up having to let them down a lot doing commissions for Victoria Housekeeping.

Yes, Anby enjoyers rise up! I was so glad when I found out Zhu Yuan works really well in an Anby/Nicole team, that I actually skipped Ellen, because now I have a permanent strong home for Anby. Also it's so interesting because I've been playing ZZZ since day 1 and the more I play it the more I like it. Which is weird for me because I think this is the first game that that's happened to me with.
The music I was most excited for you to listen to was Ellen’s. They really put a lot of love into her character with more live instrumentation and the virtuosic guitar playing of course to flavor it, it really shows. We need more live band pieces from hoyo in styles like this
What I like about Anby is that even without reading her character bio, you can tell that she's someone with a troubled past. Not only with her cold demeanour, but the way she seems so dependent on those headphones, turning on the music before a fight. Like she's trying to block out the noise so she can focus on what needs to be done.
I think it's so crazy how much of the Polyphia vibe they gave Ellen tracks, the syncopation and the iconic multiple-harmonics into slide-back-and-forth multi-string, it works very well to give her this "edgy, but cute" vibe
This game has NO right to be as good as it is. There's so much charm, style, and soul put into it, and these OSTs go UNBELIEVABLY hard. I'm a fool for almost passing this game up.
Nicole is an expert at manipulating her way out of paying right away. Take a shot every time he says "effervescent". Of water of course. I don't know if we've actually gotten confirmation but, if they are related, my guess is that Grace is Koleda's cousin. She calls Khors "uncle" but could also entirely be just an honorific thing. "Sis," and they both call each other that, could also just be an honorific thing. But I like to think that after what happened early in the story, they just grew up together so they might as well be sisters. Its a common joke to talk about the "physics" of the female character models. But genuinely talking about the physics of this entire game and its animations and cutscenes. Its so damn good. There's so much energy and movement in all the characters. The best way I've seen someone describe it is a cross between "rubber hose" and Monty Oum's(RIP Legend) animations I'd say Come Alive is more along the lines of Starset and Arknights
Anyone else getting major “old married throuple” vibes from Anby, Billy and Nicole? Billy is the stereotypical doofus, but he put in a lot of effort to fulfill one of Anby’s dreams - to star in an action movie. Nicole is more teasing, but it’s obvious that she’s super sentimental under that facade, and Anby… well, Anby is the quiet type, but she has shown herself to be a caring person. She also does her best to learn about Billy and Nicole.
I think a lot of the awkwardness in the lyrics is probably down to translation wigglies. I'm gonna bet they were written by the writers in Chinese first and then adapted to English.

It is interesting to compare English and Japanese VAs. I usually prefer to play anime-esque games with japanese voices, usually even if a game is chinese-made, they are almost always are made with japanese voices first and usually english is a translation, a secondary piece. Here? not so much... Yet there are.... differences. Like Koleda, english Koleda and japanese one are almost like two different characters. Like both are a kids who have a big shoes to fill, yet in Japanese she is endearing insecure, yet tries very hard to be a leader everyone wants her to be, only occasionally letting her fiery personality to get ahead of her... English Koleda is loud and annoying kid.
Not sure if that was your case but Soldier 11 soundtrack remind me of the style used for Arcane especially Dirty little animals. Also the last one give me league of legends world championship anthem from the 2015 area

It actually makes you want to play the game
I think the biggest thing about ZZZ is its literally Slice of Life the game. In ZZZ were just going about our daily lives with an apocalypse around us. Wake up, open the store, do our daily scratch off, have a coffee, eat some noodles, do some commissions, go to bed, rinse and repeat. Characters go to school, go to work, hang out with friends. Makes the game feel more relatable.
43:40 the feeling I get from this kind of vibe and trailer is an ease of mind so to say, or a longing for simpler times.
It’s basically a sort of nostalgia but more nuanced
So when this game is released, i vow to myself to not play this game because i play too many games right now.
But then BAM!!! The Gacha Music is appearing in my Facebook and there is a meme in my region about this game.
So i start to play it and fall in love to the bgm.

On your note on the Chinese rap, I also like how Zhu Yuan's EP is in Chinese (at least I think it is?). Signs of different languages are all over New Eridu, and It'd be cool to keep that metropolitan blend with character music. Ex: Miyabi (and much if not all of Section 6 are Japanese inspired) will have Japanese for her EP, if she has one.
Yes, Anby enjoyers rise up! I was so glad when I found out Zhu Yuan works really well in an Anby/Nicole team, that I actually skipped Ellen, because now I have a permanent strong home for Anby. Also it's so interesting because I've been playing ZZZ since day 1 and the more I play it the more I like it. Which is weird for me because I think this is the first game that that's happened to me with.

The music I was most excited for you to listen to was Ellen’s. They really put a lot of love into her character with more live instrumentation and the virtuosic guitar playing of course to flavor it, it really shows. We need more live band pieces from hoyo in styles like this
What I like about Anby is that even without reading her character bio, you can tell that she's someone with a troubled past.
Not only with her cold demeanour, but the way she seems so dependent on those headphones, turning on the music before a fight. Like she's trying to block out the noise so she can focus on what needs to be done.
I think it's so crazy how much of the Polyphia vibe they gave Ellen tracks, the syncopation and the iconic multiple-harmonics into slide-back-and-forth multi-string, it works very well to give her this "edgy, but cute" vibe

This game has NO right to be as good as it is. There's so much charm, style, and soul put into it, and these OSTs go UNBELIEVABLY hard. I'm a fool for almost passing this game up.

I don't know if we've actually gotten confirmation but, if they are related, my guess is that Grace is Koleda's cousin. She calls Khors "uncle" but could also entirely be just an honorific thing. "Sis," and they both call each other that, could also just be an honorific thing. But I like to think that after what happened early in the story, they just grew up together so they might as well be sisters.
Its a common joke to talk about the "physics" of the female character models. But genuinely talking about the physics of this entire game and its animations and cutscenes. Its so damn good. There's so much energy and movement in all the characters. The best way I've seen someone describe it is a cross between "rubber hose" and Monty Oum's(RIP Legend) animations
I'd say Come Alive is more along the lines of Starset and Arknights

Billy is the stereotypical doofus, but he put in a lot of effort to fulfill one of Anby’s dreams - to star in an action movie. Nicole is more teasing, but it’s obvious that she’s super sentimental under that facade, and Anby… well, Anby is the quiet type, but she has shown herself to be a caring person. She also does her best to learn about Billy and Nicole.

I think a lot of the awkwardness in the lyrics is probably down to translation wigglies. I'm gonna bet they were written by the writers in Chinese first and then adapted to English.

Like the lyrics are fine, but what is not being said but shown is far more valuable to me. It tells you stuff so much more directly without ever staying for too long (example is the Ellen video where the one guy said "I am 14 and this is deep" to the lyrics)

Losing it over your Digimon call out. I'm a huge fan myself. Check out the Digimon Tri films for some potent nostalgia and an incredible continuation of the characters from 1 and 2. I hadn't thought about it until but ZZZ and those Tri films feel very very similar actually.

It is interesting to compare English and Japanese VAs. I usually prefer to play anime-esque games with japanese voices, usually even if a game is chinese-made, they are almost always are made with japanese voices first and usually english is a translation, a secondary piece. Here? not so much... Yet there are.... differences. Like Koleda, english Koleda and japanese one are almost like two different characters. Like both are a kids who have a big shoes to fill, yet in Japanese she is endearing insecure, yet tries very hard to be a leader everyone wants her to be, only occasionally letting her fiery personality to get ahead of her... English Koleda is loud and annoying kid.

If you really liked Ellen's OST, you maybe should check the game Blue Archive's OST
It's very similar and very good (and iirc, there's some people working on ZZZ that worked on BA)
