I have a question for you guys. This video is 4 minutes. The last one was 14. Which length do you prefer? Obviously longer videos mean more detail and depth but short ones are easier to watch. Do you have a sweet spot? I’ll have a variety of formats probably so expect to see me experiment in the future. But I’d love to hear what you think so far.
Unless you're doing a step by step follow along tutorial, long videos can be very tedious to watch, so I like this idea of a speed-paint with voiceover commentary because you're still talking about your process or reasons behind the decisions you're making in your pieces, without it going on forever. I also liked your last video because it was an overview and demo of your Watercolor pack, so it gave me an idea of what to expect before purchasing. Maybe you can continue doing similar videos to showcase your other brush packs?
Hey Max. I like the variety of lengths. I think as long as there’s no ‘filler’ and waffle, it is the length it is. I only get annoyed when people are clearly stretching it out to shove an extra add in. I like your videos. Love your drawing style. Just got your comic pack 😊
Actually I like it when your teaching and talking but bits of the drawing are sped up. So you just get the key points and still see the drawing developing but it doesn’t take an eternity.
Hey Max - I have brought a few of your brush sets - as a relative newcomer, I would love some basic tutorials that explain/show what each brush has been designed to do - the way you might use them , rather than a speed paint demo. It would make sense to do them in batches, eg watercolour blenders - then something really simple - ‘painting an egg simple’ - so we can see the intended effect. Reading the comments on other channels, your customer base would really appreciate it 🙏 the user guide that comes with the Watercolour set is great but a moving picture and voiceover would a whole new level to the way we can put these tools to best use.
I definitely like videos like this to be a little longer, like 10 min for me is the sweet spot. For a 4 min video it could be a quick tip and how you applied that or something like that. I really love that you jumped into the UA-cam space, it’s so cool to see more of what happens behind your pieces 👌🏻 truly inspiring
I always love the fact that you are real and passionate about art and how you struggle but at the same time bring a positive attitude despite that, will have to try this pack out:) Looking forward to more videos.
Max, I love your work, and also how chill and calming you are. I feel like we know each other since forever. I feel you treat your audience like friends, and that is something I truly enjoy from watching your work. Regarding the lengths, I can se myself watching both! I just enjoy watching and hearing you talk about your work. Really inspiring. Keep it up!
Your style reminds me of the caricatures we would incorporate into our graffiti murals here in NY. I can’t fathom how much more we could have done with the technology available today but the evolution of creativity is astounding
I gotta say that your style and creativity are top notch. Love seeing you draw with so much attention to details and special characteristics. Super inspirational!
I love that you showed us how you would use the comic Maxpack Brushes... I bought them a few weeks ago and was waiting for a video like this explaining how to use them.. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I'm so excited! are you planning to do a video for the Gouache Maxpack Brushes?
I bought this pack right after your WeArePlaygrounds demo and it's becoming one of my favorites!! Would you ever consider doing a demo or tutorial on how you color? The different colors and tones you use make your art just POP and I'm in love 😍
I’m planning on a big color lesson for Gumroad I think. I’m still trying to figure out the structure of it. Color is a huge topic and a big portion of it is instinct for me now honestly so I’m trying to figure out what I do consciously but also unconsciously which is funny haha.
@@MaxUlichney sometimes the things we know best are the hardest to explain because we're so familiar with them! But even the most basic guidance would be so much help, so I can't wait until you release this lesson. Thank you!
I just found your channel as I'm starting out on my digital art journey and I'm so sad to see you haven't made any more videos these past few years, but you've got a new Instagram follower! your humour, charisma and the way you communicate your passion and humility is just so engaging to me, not to mention your talent and skills in delivering a tutorial, so if you ever do come back to UA-cam you've got a guaranteed viewer in me ❤️
Oh man, i love this brushes, i don't have an ipad so i don't use Procreate, i'm using CSP at today for creating my comics and art, would be great in the future to have that brushes, specially the toothy inker. Great video!
This is a great video Max! I just want to honestly say how great your packs have been for my workflow! I cut my teeth on watercolor and gouache and brushpens and the jump to digital felt really flat and lifeless - your packs really make me forget what medium i'm using and just get into the work. thanks for everything dude! that lightbox talk was killer too btw
I looove your artworks, they are wonderful and so inspiring! I'm so glad to see you here on UA-cam with your processes and advices and just chatting) And I was actually shocked when I find out that you're making most of your artworks using Procreate! I have difficulties with drawing on the screen, can't properly manage it to myself (always work in photoshop with simple Wacom). But I really want to get it right and start using Ipad for personal artworks, to be able to "meditate on brush strokes" in my free time. I'm going to try some of your brushes. Hope it will help me to feel more freehanded and relaxed with Procreate
First thanks a lot for the vid, this kind of vid !! A big pleasure to see you draw !! Now about your question... for me maybe I have some pref for the longer as I am a beginner with procreate but both give some great tips maybe make some short vid and a big one after several like one of your interview on lightbox expo.
Hey Max! I just discovered your channel! I have purchased some of your Max Packs already that were recommended from Nikolas Kole, and I love 'em! You rule!!!!!
This was great Max. It’s funny. I had the watercolor and the gouache pack and have been happy but then I saw this and had to buy the comics brush set. No regrets! Spent all evening playing with them. This is going to be fun!
Fantastic work! Love the contrast of beauty/grotesque, and love the Comics pack! It’s the first brush pack I purchased after seeing you in a panel at last year’s Lightbox Expo. Never expected to pay for a digital brush, but you got me, they’re so good! So excited to watch more from you. Post whatever length you want, I’m cool with a quick fix or a feature film - it’s worth it! 😎
Really cool to see this piece being made. I saw it before on the max pack site, I was in awe of it. Really a great level of anatomic mastery to be able to be so playful with it. Kudos
Loved how it turned out! Specially when you suddenly put the colors! The 'translucent' skin was a great tip! 4min is great, but if you have some more ideas to speak, make it last as longer as you want ;)
Wow! I just purchased your comic maxpack earlier today and you uploaded this video! hehe it came in handy. Btw I love all your brushes from your watercolour series too! Keep up the awesome work 🤩🤩
Hell yeah! A part of me thought you were gonna quit after the first video man not gonna lie, but it's great to see that you continue uploading! Your channel will be big one day trust me!
Yeah it took longer than I wanted but work got busy and then right when I went to shoot the on camera stuff they started a week of loud power washing outside that ruined my audio. Classic.
Really impressed with how you inked your line work. Also, it's funny you mentioned that you use a marker to get some quick fills and then use a colored pencil on top of it. When I was younger, I would actually do the opposite. I would use colored pencils first, then use markers to add some shading (I would smudge it with my finger). Quick question, do you use a matte screen protector for your iPad?
Max, awesome vid! I just get trapped for your last one (and even start to follow you on instagram) I like a lot your work, so much joy and fun! Thanks for sharing your process, please upload more with the length do you want!!
It's so cool SEEING your thought process at the beginning of the sketch as you're playing around with ideas, character and composition. Awesome insights as always - thanks so much for sharing these. #teamtoothyinker KEEP THEM COMING! :-)
Hey man, love your videos and your brushes! Could you make more videos actually using each brush from a certain brush pack and showing us what they’re each designed to do? Thank you!
i have just bought the comic pack because of the inking in this old man picture. Seems to be the brush i have waiting for... i have a question about the colored pencil (i use the red pencil for the first sketch) but the colored pencil in the comic pack is the same colored pencil you used in the watercolor maxpack draw? What size are your graphics ? The colored pencil seems so big in my frecuently used 1080x1080 draws... Another question is about the toothy ink brush... rounded, multiply,.. what did you use in this graphic ??? Thanks in advance !
I don't have any duplicate brushes in my packs so the watercolor pack colored pencil is different. I don't recommend working at 1080x1080. That's very low resolution. For example if you wanted to print that, it would be 3.6x3.6" or about Post-It sized. My brushes are made for print resolution. I'd recommend something at least iPad screen resolution, and I work around 11"x14" at 300dpi, or 3300x4200px, and sometimes larger. And I used the normal Toothy Inker. Not Multiply or Round.
Hard to say without seeing your issues, but I'd recommend working at print resolutions, and possibly playing with your pressure curve. Everyone's got a different weight to their hand, so you may try raising or lowering the middle of the curve to adjust your sensitivity. I have the middle of my curve raised because I have a light hand for example.
Hello Max! Stupid question and you might have explained this many times before so sorry, does this Brushpack work only for Procreate 4+ or also with 5? thank you
Hi, fantastic work! ❤ have been watching your videos I have a question for you, what should be your color profile & file format while sending the artwork for printing to get the exact results .
That really depends on your printer. I have a relationship with my local printer and they have their own preferences. I can't say it will be the same for everyone else.
I use Adobe Premiere on PC, but if I'm doing less complex stuff for Instagram or something I often use Luma Fusion on the iPad. It's fantastic for cutting up timelapses.
As I understand it, when using the Apple Pencil, the screen refresh rate increases to reduce input lag. That's why it seems to drain your battery faster while painting and may also result in heat.
After seeing your demo at We Are Playgrounds Blend (which was rocking!!!) I picked up your watercolor pack. I'm just starting to get a feel for them, but damn, dude, I'm blown away.
I know this is a couple years late lol but try making your canvas bigger, and/or adjusting your pencil sensitivity under tool icon: actions>prefs>pressure and smoothing>app pressure sensitivity

I prefer longer videos. Maybe you can make a draw with me video too, like a real time video or a timelapse video. Just some suggestions hehe
Unless you're doing a step by step follow along tutorial, long videos can be very tedious to watch, so I like this idea of a speed-paint with voiceover commentary because you're still talking about your process or reasons behind the decisions you're making in your pieces, without it going on forever. I think the videos that stick w me the most skew longer. But i think alternating lengths is a good idea to keep things digestible
