Creating a Comic in Procreate

- I made a 5 page comic story in Procreate on the iPad.
The story was made for the anthology Australia Burns, a book dedicated to the heroic firefighters and volunteers of the Australian Bushfire crisis.
In this video, I talk about my process of creating a short story entirely on the iPad, in the painting app Procreate.
All book proceeds are going to 6 different charities, including:
-Country Fire Authority (CFA)
-Rural Fire Service (RFS)
-Wild2Free Wildlife Rescue
-Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park
-South Australian Veterinary Emergency Management (SAVEM)
-Shoeboxes of Love

Yes! So much yes! My favourite media has always been the worlds and stories that are tinged with sadness. It adds so much depth and creates a strong sense of reality to even the most fantastic of stories and characters. Everyone knows what sadness feels like, i think it has an amazing power to unify people and creates a backdrop to showcase really beautiful moments of hope, happiness and resilience

Your art is amazing, and the story is so sad, but it comes across wonderfully in your artwork. I've been considering creating my own comic, but I haven't drawn for so long, I find that I've lost my basic understanding of the fundamentals, so I'm starting back at square one. I hope you are staying safe and I will be binge watching your videos while I work for inspiration and motivation. Lol.

This was really beautiful to watch and I agree with a lot of what u said! May I ask what the page size and dpi are? I’m still scripting my comic and I’m not sure if I wanna use Procreate or clip studio also I’m a huge fan of colour and use it a lot but this helped me think of how not to do to much!

This is really well done, I love your style. I definitely agree on wanting more "grit" in digital art instead of everything being perfectly clean. Feels sterile.
I'm wondering if you have a video on your process, or have any tips for creating comics in Procreate? It looks like you're making use of clipping masks to keep your art in your frames? You also mentioned using the grid for lettering, do you use that for drawing the actual lines of your frames as well?

This is an engaging video but it lacks the details that I was really surprised were skipped over. What was the canvas size you selected in Procreate? What DPI? How many layers? Which iPad Pro model?
I Want That Info to... Considering you don't get many layers when a typical comic page is 11 x 17 and looks like he used a blue lined comics master page template there, that would take one layer... And to be Printed Full book size the DPI would have to be a good size I'm thinking at least 300....

I don't know what canvas he actually used, but on procreate there's a standard canvas for comics

sorry for my english. i have a few questions. Do you use ipad pro 2018 11 or 12.9 ? Because i have pro 11 2 weeks and me seems he is small for drawing, especially for concept art(example games). Did you have problems with this? I'm already thinking of selling this ipad and buying 12.9 or xp pen 15.6 pro😕
Hey man, your english is fine! I'm using the iPad Pro First Gen, 12.9 - I dont prefer to work on anything smaller, but I can if I have to. Even the 12.9 can take some getting used to, especially when coming from bigger tablets. (I previously used a Wacom Cintiq 21 UX, which is huge.)

Do you use a screen protector for your iPad?
Idk about him, but I use a matte screen protector, it gives the screen a bit more tooth, works against glaring but does wear the tip of your pencil down faster. I would definitely recommend a screen protector always, but if you draw a lot matte is the way to go. No need to spend all the money on paperlike though, any matte screenprotector will do!
