- ✏️Download My Ultimate Comic Page Template + Comic Brushes for Procreate at: gumroad.com/l/comicpage - In this first "Make Comics in Procreate" video I want to break down some of the key features and gestures in Procreate specifically geared for comic artists. I'll show you my setups, templates, tips and more.
The Procreate app on IPAD PRO now has everything you need to fully pencil, ink, color and even letter your comics directly on the iPad and then export them for print ready files or for your webcomics.
Who is this video series for? Ever asked yourself these questions:
- Is investing in an iPad Pro worth it?
- Can you make comics on the iPad?
- Can iPad Pro replace a Cintiq?
- Can you do everything you do in Photoshop on the iPad?
- How do you copy & paste in Procreate?
- How do you resize comics in Procreate?
- Can I export print ready files for my comics?
- How can I make more time to draw more comics?
- How do you ink comics in Procreate on iPad?
For those wanting to take their first steps at drawing comics digitally,
or maybe you're old school and wanting to finally invest in an iPad Pro. Will it help you beat your deadlines? (yes!)
Maybe you're drawing digitally on Cintiq or a bigger setup and you want to know if iPad Pro is capable of handling everything? Maybe you're looking for a more portable studio.
I've always tried to approach digital tools from a more traditional comic creation background. In 2006 I began drawing on a Wacom Cintiq, but when iPad Pro came out I quickly found it as my go to drawing tool-- Back then, Procreate was missing some key features I needed, but now it's a real powerhouse.... in fact I sold my Cintiq two years ago after it basically was just collecting dust and taking up so much room!
With this combination of iPad Pro, Procreate the key gestures and techniques, it truly is a Cintiq killer.
In this series I want to take you through the steps of how I approach drawing comics traditionally, but using these tools to save time and make even more comics.
This is especially important for guys like me with day jobs who want to make more comics, but have limited time to produce. This process has been a lifesaver!
You'll need a trusty iPad Pro with an apple pencil, any size will do but I enjoy the larger 12.9. Most or all of these tips will work also with the older version or used iPad Pros and first generation Apple Pencils too!

This is like the only video i need, to get started, and every question was pretty much answered, for days i‘m just writing my story in mere bullet points my note is already about 6 pages long 😅, capturing, things i want in my story and things to avoid. Wrote down so many great metaphorical scenarios, now it’s time get to work on my first application within Procreate.
So glad it was helpful! Sometimes all the functions and things can be overwhelming but you really only need to basics to get going! Good luck!!!
My art teacher taught me a lot of things in procreate, but this video helped me even more. I had no idea isolation mode was a thing, thanks for this video!
Excellent video, very helpful, thank you. This probably convinced me to get the ipad. I'm moving from pencil and pad to digital.
This was super helpful. Thank you!!!
My God! You are a God send. You helped me tremendously. Thanks for a patient, thorough video. U r Awesome!
Glad this helped!!!
This is amazing thank you😭 I didn't know 90% of this
Wow!!! I was using procreate not even 10% Thank you! I learned a lot!!!! Can’t wait to see you every Saturday!😉
Great Leslie! Thanks for tuning in!
Great video! Lots of helpful info. Also, I say boom too.
Keep doing videos on this been wanting to do a comic on procreate I didn’t know this was so easy lol
Thanks for watching. Glad you found it helpful. I don't know if I'd call it "easy" but once you get the hang of it, it's hard to go back to pen on paper without the magical gestures. You'll even find yourself drawing on paper and trying to do the gestures to undo! hah!
Are there any problems with scaling such as bluryness or artifacts when resizing ? That’s a cool feature
SWEET!! I still own an iPad mini for 5 years now..kinda wanna upgrade before it dies..any thoughts of which iPad to save up for? Danke!!!
I could never get used to Procreate, just never able to feel comfortable with it but after seeing this video maybe I will give it another shot just for fun but I am addicted to clip studio. I started drawing comics at 6.88 x1050 at 600 dpi supposedly that’s how DC comic artist draw and I love it. Easier to work with in my opinion.
OMG this is what I needed ur a time/life saver
So glad it helped!
Awesome tutorial I just sent it to my friend
Quick question what is the size of the font that you use when it comes to word balloons?
I have a tendency to use 12.5 but sometimes it’s a little too big inside the boxes that I use so I didn’t know if I should go smaller
I’ll get to explain this in detail in a lettering video in full, but briefly it can depend on the DPI or page size you are using. In my case there, for an 8x10 page, the 4 panel comic I use , that don’t is Spinner Rack from Blambot set to 12.3 - you may need to do some trial prints of a few bubbles depending on the font, just to make sure it’s legible to your liking when in print. Thanks for watching!
Very cool video keep it up! Have you tried CSP for iPad or comic draw app?
I have. I prefer procreate just for the "feel"
Greati video! One question about layering: would you ink every object on a separate layer, to be able to isolate them for colouring (to not get over the lines), or do you have a simpler strategy?
I usually just have one ink layer. Occasionally I’ll group things I want to have on their own layer for an effect.
Very good!
Thanks Roberto!
Hey just wondering, do you have templates for artists who are doing comic strips? Any tips?
Hi! Yes, my page template pack offers 4 panel strip format, vertical and horizontal. gumroad.com/l/comicpage
Is there a way for your templates to be free?
Thank u 🤍🤍
You’re welcome 😊
Sir thankyouuuuuuuuuu
When i am not drawing i use my ipad for a lot of other stuff. So i am kinda worried that a screencover would annoy me while not drawing. What do u think about it ?
I’m using my iPad for all kinds of stuff, it doesn’t bother me at all.
I got your brushes.. but the Procreate files are too big for a smaller iPad.. do you have other sized .procreate files for smaller ipads? I have a 10.9
The size is relative. You should be able to pinch and zoom to make it fit the smaller iPad
@@DJCoffman hi! do you also have template in European standard, like A4?
Not me buying within 2mins of watching
