SOMEONE SAID IT, YES, the smut has taken over, and I feel like we've really lost the ROMANCE factor. Don't get me wrong, I'm no prude, but Grandma's "dirty books" were so much superior to most of ours when it came to the angst and longing and such that really MAKES a "romance", for me.
I've even turned to reading a lot of clean/slow burn/closed door stuff lately, just trying to find something that really shows the relationship building in a meaningful way.
Video idea, maybe? Maybe one with "low on smut, heavy on romance" favorites, and one with the best of both worlds?

oh i can definetly relate when you say romance hasn't been the same this year, I feel like every romance I read there's way more smut than relationship development and it sucks bc I don't like smut that much but I do love romance.
I don't know if this seems mean but also good writing/plot/character development have been missing, I'm connecting less with new characters... it's mostly smut and there hasn't been much variety

I know this is older but I think Shelly Laurenston is for a very specific person. I’ve felt that about every book I’ve read by her. These are very chaotic but I love the hero in book 2 who is a panda. He’s the sweetest and most mellow guy.

Paused about a minute in to tell you our husbands literally pick books the same way. I just read Protector Cowboy by Hope Ford (don't do it. spare yourself) solely because of my husband. He opened Apple Books, saw it was in one of those "top whatever" lists, and he needed to know if it was actually good. Therefore it went on my TBR.

I‘m currently also getting back into PNR and I recently read Heather Guerre‘s wolf shifters/vampires series Tooth & Claw. So so good! Really hit that Twilight for adults spot. And really well written as well. I flew threw the 3 books that are already out in 3 days (more books are apparently coming). All three are on KU. Highly highly recommend, especially for the current season because all of the Forks vibes in this.
Ohhh yes! I also read that series and I really liked it! It felt very atmospheric. And I was impressed that the books were consistently good and the plot was well thought out. I‘m looking forward to the next book 😊

I would love to see Hayden picking your KU reads “live” like those videos where you’d screen record your laptop and go through because hearing his thoughts in the moment as to what he thinks of what he sees in general, as well as what he eventually picks, would be so much fun
I think so ‘Hayden tries to pick 5 star reads for me’ and he has to try is hardest to pick books your going to love that aren’t on your radar!

I was gonna say I could recommend a shifter series for haden (with like foxes n stuff) but it's wouldn't be a recommendation because they're not exactly... good 😅 I'd love to see this again where he genuinely chooses what he thinks you'll like - it'd be interesting to get his take on your taste, having not read most of the books you love, and he might pick out some gems that weren't on your radar
