Day 2 of 5mtr x 3.5mtr garden room build

- Day 2 of the build, not sure why the sound is so bad, but ill sort it for tomorrow.
we've put the base in now, except for a couple of boards as I seem to have ordered for a 3mtr deep build. No membrane on this as the weather is crap and any trapped water is returning into the room as its drying and causing us issues with the speed at which we need to finish the builds. Well return to the membrane when the weather improves, an over engineer, but its what we do - Навчання та стиль
Satisfying watch. Awesome job as usual. Never tire of watching these builds
I think your videos are great for a DIYer to learn from. Spent ages deliberating which ground foundation to go for. Nearly went for the screw & concrete method but something didn't feel right about the setup, one of the faults of doing engineering for a living.. So decided to get 12 x 1.7m helix screws instead that my son helped me install at the weekend. Bit more expensive than the threaded bar method but less work to install. Anyway thanks for all the videos, I expect the rest of my cabin to be of a similar method combined with other cabin methods.
Loving the the build William. I’ve just finished building mine from your previous videos and the only change I made that saved a load of time and money was dig a shallow channel below the middle rows of studs and drop them down 4 inches so as to allow the 4x2 floor joists to run straight over them as bearers . Now I don’t need loads of hangers ,twist nails and it makes it easier for insulating. Hope this idea helps.
Loving that vid Liam...day 2 on the job and flooring complete?? Wow... Can see why you use the 5 minute glue!!! Keep up the great work.
Hi, didn’t have to wait for tomorrow but it was a good watch of day 2, hopefully I’ll be able to watch the rest. Take care and stay safe.
Congratulations on 20k subscribers! 🎉
Looks good, I’d have use washers on the threaded bar for the nuts.
Love your work you got a nice team first class 👌👏👍
Love watching this......fantastic Liam 👏
Brilliant to see good work I learnt so much 👌🇬🇧👌🇬🇧👍👍
You guys have to contact the glue manufacturer. That’s a great slogan you’ve come up with (assuming it’s not their branding already)!
Looking good. Thanks for sharing
Love the little upgrades you've done since the last tutorial. Like the recessed bolts in the timbers which mean the T&G flooring goes straight on now
Learning and evolving all the time 🕺
Great video, keep up the good work !
Amazing video really informative, thank you
Wow these guys are efficient!!!
Looks like a really enjoyable job you lads have !
Something also really satisfying once you see the solid base go in 😂
there not all lads you know unless shes undergone surgery now bless her / him 🤔
@@PRINCEVINCE1983 oh yea 😩 forgot there’s a girl or 2 on their crew ! Sorry
Thanks for the second video.
Great video great work cheers
Britain quality you can’t beat it 🇬🇧👌
Top work boss man
Get yourself a couple of positive placement cordless nail guns,it will save you a good bit of time when nailing up the hangers.
It's a nifty system that you have developed there!
Have you thought about using Torx screws that use a star shape bit . Probably a bit dearer but you’ll save on screwdriver bits 👍
Fantastic job. Have you tried decking screws for the flooring might be a bit easier on your driver bits. Keep up the good work.
Good stuff as always. What kind of additional bracing do you think you'd need if you were to stick a power rack + weights in one of these?
Nice one 👍
nice job. Is there a washer between the nut and timber on the timber base?
I always use torx heads with an impact driver gives them a better grip.
love this! great team you’ve got there, what model stihl is that mate?
Funny how this video is quickly becoming the most watched video, could it possibly be the thumbnail 🙉🙈🙊
Keep up the great work 👍🏻
Over Engineering I did say that to Amy, 🤣
Hi great videos, what is the size of the u channel you use? Internal size and thickness of steel?
Love this
hi how high off the ground does this sit and do your rooms include this as part of the 2.5m height restrictions?
Brilliant
Milwaukee bits I've found to be the best
Great vid again m8, so much useful info/tips that can be transferred to other jobs easily. Are there any UA-cam channels you watch yourself that you rate and would recommend?
Lol, no, too busy to be watching other people 🙈
Hi there, great video, are the timbers in the joist hangers 4x3" and also is the flooring the weatherproof cabershield please @oakwood garden rooms
I have to commend you for having a female on your team.
Really great to see females learning the trade.
Only recently seen a female on refuse collection for first time.
Is it just the floor frame that needs to be presure treated timber? Or is it the walls & roof also?
Each to their own but not sure I’d want you building a garden room for me.
There’s a reason Robin Clevett takes his time and uses the right tool for the job.
You don’t have to be ‘not sure’ mate, I’m too busy anyway 🤷🏻♂️
Great videos, big fan. Q , do you bother painting the steel shoes with cold galvanising paint to resist rust? Also, are your rods stainless or HT galvanised? Same reason again, or is the view that treated 3 x4 likely to rot before rust compromises the shoes?
They’ll not fail in my lifetime or the customers mate, I’m all for over engineering but it’s fine
I've found the Dewalt bits really good, last ages
Sorry if you have covered this but what standard are the 24mm threaded bars you are using? Stainless, galvanised or zinc coated? ....Stainless are a bit pricey 😬 im thinking of using a similar system for a decking
Top graft mate, get yourself a couple of paslode PPNs though, make light work of all them hangers 👍🏼
If you have five hammers probably doesn't take long.
Impact-rated bits are usually black like you see with sockets. Normal bit/socket = bare metal Impact socket/bit = black.
You need to get on the free tool band wagon mate rag and bone brown has just got a full miwakkee kit for nicks and he is no were near as good to watch as you guys 🔨🔨
cracking job, what was the finished cost please
Great video series. Just one question. Is their a reason you use channel onbtop of the nuts instead of just large flat plates?
Just prefer it mate, loads are using the square plate washers, I’ve got to give a warranty on my builds and the strength is in the shape, nothing wrong with the flat plate washer though
Good work with no nonsense or BS ‘you need this tool or that tool’. Makes a change tbh. Must say though wish the filming was a bit steadier/better because it was making my nut spin at times. Your work deserves some good quality filming I think. Cheers for sharing 👍🏻
I get what your saying, I really do! It’s new to me, and I’m just wanting you all to see what I’m thinking 🤔, if that even makes sense
william griffin keep it up mate because it’s great to see real work being done by actual workers as opposed to professional UA-camrs. I’m sure you’ll turn into Quentin Tarantino with a bit of practice 👍🏻😄🍻
@@thegardenroomguru might be worth investing in a medium size gimbal to steady the camera
Torx screws is the way to go, I put in over 400 screws with a single bit
Are the bits in the impact driver impact rated
An other good video buddy.
Would it be any benefit to get a round spout type thing made on the front of the wheel barrow so you can just pour the concrete into the holes like a pouring jug effect.
Has your charity draw taken place . With Christmass and different things happening I have missed a few videos
Keep up the good work bud
Hi Will, excellent video as usual. Out of interest once the 4x3 is put over the rods, is it not worth add a square washer before tightening down to timber?
no need to even bolt it mate, the weight of the build holds it in place tbh
william griffin perfect, thanks for that
@@thegardenroomguru Probably would be quite a good idea for uplift as buildings like these are classed as light weight structures. Great video!
Try Makita XPS bits, you won’t look back, promise!
Hi will, just wondering if any of your customers have put hot tubs in the garden rooms, if so would the base need extra bracing from the ones you do in the self build packs thanks
not yet, but understand a ltr weighs 1kg, so maybe some focused strenghtening in the location
How long are the rods? and why dont you use shorter ones?
Try the Wiha Terminator bits, or Wera Impactor. The Wera BDC bits are not impact rated. Nice job btw
Hello, its me again with another question. As you say you always cut the rim joists longer than needed and you "eyeball" the rod centre onto them, mark the centre and drill the hole. Why not use a speed square up slid up to the the rod edge (all from the same side of course), mark the middle and then drill the holes. At worst you will only have to move the joist 12 mm.
Milwaukee bit work well for me.
Learning so much from the videos for a self build, great job. Do you have any issue with vermin under the suspended floor? Wondering if I need to bother with mesh to stop anything accessing underneath?
nest video mate
Wondering the same! Absolutely love the videos. Top job
@@thegardenroomguru can't find a nest video from you guys!?
Female with power tools 💪 some girl power we need more like this where I live
Great work! Try pre drilling the boards first with a small drill bit it will save the bits from snaping.
If you buy cheap screws then pilot, any half decent screw should be fine through a p5 board but good screws are expensive.
@@TurinTuramber i agree that using quality screws is a must. But i think you've missed the point that the pz2 bit are snaping not the screws.
@@russellpage7976 Yes I know it's the bits, high performance screws will go in with far less resistance. Not saying it will cure totally crappy bits but should mean no piloting. Usually get extra bits thrown into a box of screws too.
Great video’s btw. Very inspiring. Will the full tutorial include how to run wiring for the 1st fix electrics?
Should buy a paslode ppn gun for the twistnails comes with strips will save u time and as we all say "time is money"
Try using better quality screws like spax. Cost loads more but go in quicker and have less resistance so you'll (in theory) break less bits.
Agree, good screws costs but so does a bit every seven screws.
could you show us you doing one with difficult shape and angles, and also terrible levels like my own garden Laim,Thanks in advance
I’ve had a couple of erabuaer impact sets from screwfix, not had that much of an issue with them, cheap as well
I've done 4 boxes of 6x100's using a single 50mm pz3 erbauer bit and it's still going strong! Not tried the ps2's but I will be now. Great bits
May we have the link to you fb page please - couldn’t find it. Cheers - loving your videos!
Awesome job, William. I couldn't find a link to your Facebook group nor could I find it on Facebook, could you post it here please.
Very nice mate, get yourself a PPN nailer it will make light work of your hangers and use flooring screws and you won’t break half as many driver bits
tried a PPN nailer, I can nail them quicker by hand than the ramp up of a Dewalt
william griffin mini compressor & pnumatic? Providing u don’t mine the air tube trailing
Got one in the van mate, not used it in a long time now
rob121212blue cordless baby
william griffin off cause you can😂😂
Absolutely cracking videos, enjoy seeing the end results. Quick question, can/do you not build the base out of concrete ? Why not just make a shuttering box and fill it ?
Is it the time / cost or energy efficiency etc ?
Any tips or advice appreciated.
Keep up the great work.
Cost, time, access issues, labour, environmentally friendly, un even ground, 🤷🏻♂️
@@thegardenroomguru haha so pretty much all them factors. Thanks for the quick response. Keep it up guys.
@@Findlay1987 To give an example from someone who doesn't do it for a living, when I built my shed a few years ago I had a mate come round to help me barrow the concrete from the "mix on-site" lorry out the front to the shuttered area at the back whilst my OH put her wellies on and raked it out... Around 120 feet but with a few corners along the way. Total was 5 tonnes, I think the concrete firm allotted 30 minutes which we kept within but my mate (would have been about 30 and average fitness at the time) was absolutely broken afterwards and OH was definitely starting to struggle.
Concrete pumps are a great invention if you have a big slab to lay away from the road, but you pay to have them bring it and set it up, and by their nature there has to be a certain amount of wastage.
Do you ever use anything to try and stop rodents eating/burrowing in to the insulation from underneath??
Mesh skirt on this one
Jon's nuts... Arf Arf
Don’t think then wera bits are for impact just driver
Advice on putting wood straight onto existing concrete base? What membrane between if any? Great vids!
DPC over the top, sheet of visqueen and build frame on that, insulate in-between and away you go
@@thegardenroomguru thanks so much!
Milwaukee shockwave bits, used to swear by them but they have stopped the old £5.99 ones and released 10.99 ones and they are dog shit. So don't waste money trying them. Shockwave bit holder - shockwave bit - breaking after a couple of 5x90s.
Hi m8, try the double sided dewalt 50mm bits seem really good, don’t seem to snap :) keep up the great work
Dewalt are fucking beast
@@bekabeka71 u know it
with the joist hanger is that the fastest way you have found to do it compared to using a paslode ppn, good to see other peoples methods
I borrowed a ppn off a mate, dewalt, I was quicker, it was raining and the paper magazine fell apart causing it to jam
If you buy some decent screws like optimax or riesser your bits wont break
hi, been a interesting vid, I'm not sure why you use that type of ground fixings, that's a lot of work. use ground screws, no digging and concrete. a lot faster system.
The problem isn't that Wera bits aren't all that, it's that them cheap shit Forgefix screws break bits like no other screws.
If you try some other decent bits they will break them as well, but use the same bits with decent screws & the bits last ages.
From where I can buy from this glue. And how is the name. Thanks
Everbuild Lumberjack 5 minute Polyurethane Wood Adhesive Liquid - 750 g
Knew a fella whose hoodie cords got pulled into a chop saw - wasn't pretty. Watch the long hair - you probably do already but best to be safe than sorry! If only I could grow my hair that long ;o)
Keep trying 💁🏼♀️🙈
What bit was on the drill when they were spinning the nuts on?
It’s designed for taking stickers off cars, but there’s a couple of guys using a wire brush attachment that they say works better
william griffin perfect, thanks! Thought that was a great time saver and would help if any small bits grit/concrete remain to be knocked off. Cheers
milwaukee shockwave pz2 dont break very often
Great vid dude just wondering if the owner had to get permission for a garden room that size 👍
There are a few rules to abide by no bigger than 30m2 I believe. Also if closer to boundary than 1m then cant be taller than 2.5m if not then 3m height max other caveats like combustible materials etc. You can look it up on your local council website to be doubly sure
Could you tile that floor when finished Liam
Sure, but you’d need to over board it with hardi board and I’d be using flexible tile adhesive and grout, as it is a timber floor still 👌
You need to try dewalt impact bits. They are black. Specifically designed for impact drivers.
But how do warm roofs work?
There the worst I've tried!
DeWalt are crap bits!
Is the underside of the floor insulation protected or open to air?
Open to air
@@thegardenroomguru was wondering if pur rodent friends liked to use it for keeping bests warm 😀
Nice Videos, just need your mic higher up so we can hear you better. Great work though.
Novice question but how do you stop rodents digging into the insulation? Or is it not an issue?
theres a mesh skirt on this but you'll never stop a mouse getting under, but its off the floor so its not an issue
william griffin Thank you
Your going to work those people to death lol, seems a bit manic. But love the systems you have devoloped.
Looks like normal hard work to me!
@@robbiedudley7933 I do work in the aerospace industry, so maybe I've lead a slightly more sedate working life. But looks back breaking. Respect
You know your stuff Liam, did you work in commercial construction? I used to build curtain walls around Manchester in my younger days.
pub refits back when I was younger, hate site work, too may pre-madonnas, if thats how you spell it
@@thegardenroomguru it's prima donna but I only just learnt that because of this comment haha, my life whole I thought it was pre-madonna XD
🤣
Great series, very helpful. For the ground rods is there any negative to using postcrete vs concrete, other than cost? I'm planning on doing a building like this next year and don't fancy mixing all the concrete myself.
its not strong enough mate
@@thegardenroomguru shame, I had a few bags lying around 😁
When you put a weed membrane down and then make holes in it with the mini pile foundations there is no point having it at all. The foundation beams should be tanalised. Nail plates & butted corners unecessarily compromise strength.
Try wera impact bits in your impact driver you may have better luck lol
What stops mice from chewing the insulation?
sugar, it rots there teeth ;-)

at 1:05 what is the drill attachment called to wind the nut down the thread?
It’s a car detailing buffer mate, a drill wire brush also works a treat
