  • In this video I have 6 examples for you of match situations where a time out can benefit you greatly.
First of all the beginning of the video is not to put Strickland in bad daylight, but rather to put the focus on the timing of Davis' time out 💪😀
I will also cover examples of:
    - A bad match start
    - Feeling fatigued in a match
    - Opponent behaving poorly / luck or bad luck factors resulting in TILT.
    - Time out to freeze your hot opponent
    - Before a crucial rack like hill hill or a huge shot
    - You have to go to the restroom 😀

Just watched Niels play Albin Ouschan in the semi-final Marina tournament. It was a barn burner for both players. I do have one criticism for both of them, though, that will cost them in Asia and the US. After the last ball was pocketed both players would take balls out of the pockets and place them on the table while the cue ball was still rolling from the last shot. I have seen a number of videos of tournament games where the offending player lost the game even though they pocketed the last ball. I had this called on me in a local tournament a few years back, and I did not like it one bit even though I had to admit I was wrong. I’ve probably played guys in league that would have called this as well.
One of the commentators of this match had a good thought about time outs. Make time outs part of your practice routine. If you don’t make a timeout part of your routine, when you take one during a tournament you will be thrown off routine even more.

Many years ago I played in a tournament here in the Chicago area. I was not very experienced in tournament play at the time. I headed to the restroom before my match only to find a very long line. I left and returned a bit later to find the restroom now being cleaned, and not accessible. So, I figured I'd just take my time out during the match, as they were now announcing my name to go and compete. No one told me I was not able to take my break on my opponents break, and I was dying as a long, long safety battle ensued on his break. My final sprint to the restroom would have been epic had it been caught on a camera. I literally vaulted a banquet table on my way, lol. Thank God the restroom was availble, and I'm glad cameras weren't real prevalent in those days.

Had one guy would always shark me about being bald. Next league game we played I was on the 8-ball, took a timeout and got a wig out of my case, put it on then went back and finished the game.

Time outs are an extremely useful part of the game. Like "the bridge" people do not want to use them when the should but the should.

2003 in Cardiff, myself, Tom Eksell and a third guy mounted all tables there. I remember Djangos loss against Thorsten, 10-11, in the end, after a missed ball, Django threw his cue like a javelin into some chairs and his shaft became trash 😂😂😂

I have seen a player's attitude favorably adjusted during a match by rolling around in the parking lot for a bit with his opponent. I don't recommend that because his hat didn't fit quit the same afterwards. But he continued to lose with what appeared to be a smile on his face. I always enjoy your videos and suggested drills and lessons. They've helped my game a lot. Thank you.

In our league time outs are used if you wasn't to get a bit of coaching on a shot. However, I also use it on important shots - I know what I am going to do but it gives me more time to compose myself, like an extension.

I have to start taking timeouts. I've never done it; I always thought that it won't help me, I think I should take a timeout when I'm playing bad, and he has at least 3 more games to win. Taking a timeout when he's on the hill will probably not give me a good chance at a comeback.

In French Billard Federation, you're not allowed to ask for a time out when it's your opponent's turn to break, only on your break.
