    Hi Niels, my game tonight was amazing my game was more focused. I took my 4 seconds breathing technique like you said. This friend and I played quite a few sessions and he won me most of the time every time with one point. But tonight I won him 9-4. I kept my eyes on the balls I didn’t look at him I stayed focus. My game was on another level tonight.
    THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE.
    Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
    I appreciate all your efforts. God bless you Niels.

    This is timely! Been dealing with pressure, not intimidation but self induced pressure to not loose to a lower rated player.

    One think which helped me a lot was having a little paper next to my drink saying "why do you play pool"? It reminds me that the number one reason why I started playing was because of my undying love for pool, it really helps to calm me down. Of course I still feel pressure but it helps me to cope much better!

    Love the content, especially anything to do with language and pool! Worth mentioning that the "tim" in "intimidation" means "fear," and it's interesting and helpful to explore exactly what I'm fearful of (losing, embarrassment, shame, letting myself down) when I feel intimidated.

    Another excellent video! Thank you very much for teaching us. I took your courses and it helped me a lot. I used to get so intimidated when playing guys with a Fargo Rating 100 points higher than mine that I would lose the match before it even started lol... I changed it a while ago and, so far, it has been a much more pleasant experience playing better players.

    For me the best nights of pool come when I know the level of play will demand my best, but with no expectations about the results, I just go to "have fun" with it! Then I'm able to focus, but stay loose throughout the tourney. Great content as always, Coach! Tip #2 imma have to try because I was always taught to read my opponents every move, but I can see your point. Kinda like using your peripheral vision to watch them...seeing them, but not looking directly at them.

    I used to think pool was all technique, but Niels is so right that the mental side is SO important. Many a time you can actually defeat yourself just by your poor mental attitude.

    I think it helps that I have a healthy level of cockiness. I believe I will play in the Mosconi Cup one day and that I currently have one of the best barbox 8 ball games in the world, so idc who the guy in the chair is. The only player I have to win against is the voice in my head that self-sabotages

    • @NielsTheTerminatorFeijen

    • @busterbuster1641
      @busterbuster1641 10 місяців тому +1

      The league I play in has lots of 'banter' or 'sledging' going on and so i agree that being cocky can put off your opponen,t as does employing tactics to annoy. You def have to train yourself to either ignore stuff or push back. It's part of the game and is super-effective when done right. Of course, you still needs the chops on the table too to take advantage of errors.

      @SpaceboyBilliards 10 місяців тому +1

      @busterbuster1641 haha i didnt mean that kind. Im a quiet player. But internally I'm rarely flustered. However, I am a defensive person due to my upbringing and circumstances, so a player verbalizing out loud the kind of confidence I feel can throw my mental game off if it's borderline bullying. Doesn't throw off my actual game, but definitely can get the drama going 😂

  • @Rickbearcat
    @Rickbearcat 9 місяців тому

    I would add that looking at your draw FIRST leads to anxiety THEN intimidation. Anxiety leads to being nervous and jerky in your stroke and second-guessing your motions at the table which leads to a bad performance. Which then just compounds upon itself. This then leads to mistakes at the table, culminating in total negativity and destructive thoughts. Otherwise, a good video.
