I think that GameFreak should start outsourcing some of their graphical stuff to Monolithsoft, like Nintendo did with BOTW. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a technical marvel on the Switch, in my opinion.

    • @-siranzalot-
      @-siranzalot- 2 роки тому +139

The idea is not bad but Pokemons technical problems run deeper than a shortage of overworld Designers. It was datamined that their engine has A LOT of old code waste and clutter from previous generations in it which prevents it from running smoothly. As long as they don't throw away the whole thing and build it up from scratch, more Designers are not the solution I'm afraid. Doing that would in turn be quite expensive and why wouldn't they squeeze every bit they can out of their messy foundation if we're all gonna buy it anyway.

    • @FelixS.
      @FelixS. 2 роки тому +32

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 looks way worse than 2 for some reason it has atrocious anti aliasing for example. It is far from a marvel even though it looks a quadrillion times better than any Pokémon game.

The story of, “its a step on a right direction but not a good contemporary game” is getting so tiring and frustrating, but the worst of it is that this will be the eternal cycle this games will be in since Pokemon as a whole will always sale well despite delivering average experiences in their main line console games… It’s sad but there’s not much that can be done… unless few people buy this games which will probably never happen…

I think that Pokemon should be a once in a generation game, like Mario or zelda. It would still sell zillions of copies. They can easily make spin-off games throughout the years to get more merch, cards, TV episodes, etc.
Then again, this will probably sell zillions, and even more than sword and shield. Why bother fixing your square wheel when it sells, and it sells well.

they get a *MASSIVE* paycheck every single gen no matter how bad they are
THEN they get a far far bigger paycheck after that due to all the cheap sh!tty tcg cards, merch, food, ect. they sell BASED on the sh!tty mainline games
      they dont care.
they dont care about the games, pokemon's legacy or any of us.

A square wheel that sells off of pure nostalgia and novelty is pretty much exactly how I'd describe Pokemon. Sure, they may have chiseled off the edges in recent games to round them off, but the glaring issue of four flat sides that refuse to budge more than an inch at a time is still far too prevalent an issue.

    • @heromedley

guess thats one way to look at it. then again if thats true, they wouldn’t even gone for a open world style of gameplay this time. they could just slap a coat of paint on sword, and shield and sell it again. but they at the very least tried to mix it up.

I love Pokemon but I also love Digimon and the way Bandai Namco handles Digimon deeply infuriates me. They're leaving the marketing up to the fans and I'm tired of it. One of the biggest reasons Pokemon is so successful is bc of the marketing. Pokemon marketing is REALLY good. Digimon marketing by comparison is almost nonexistent.

@@duskvortex You’re entirely wrong. As someone who’s deep into Digimon to the point of ordering limited edition items from Japan, it’s not Bandai. It’s the western market. People instantly compare Digimon to Pokémon which harms the franchise.
They also compare all releases we do get to the original Digimon World game which isn’t that great. Bandai also doesn’t budget for international releases and have failed multiple times to break into the western market because of Pokémon’s clutches fans. The Cybersleuth games were a massive hit in the west and the switch version killed it because of the dexxit situation. Survive did pretty well in reviews but western fans didn’t like the gameplay because it was a visual novel.
The other issue is Bandai as a whole doesn’t properly fund Digimon outside of Japan. They aren’t like Nintendo who expects a new Pokémon game every 3 years. Digimon games are reliant on what they earn. They are heavily advertised and promoted in Japan and Asia because that’s their main market. If a previous Digimon game doesn’t sell well in the west the chances of getting the next is slim to none. That’s why we missed a 2 versions of a world game and a story’s game.
It’s also why Bandai in the west is known for all their anime games because those will sale.

@@gomamon8439 my bad, but yeah. I really hate the western Bamco branches, they barely do ANYTHING to advertise Digimon at all. also I honestly blame the Pokemon comparisons on Saban/Fox bc they tried so hard to imitate Pokemon and 20+ years later it's still fucking Digimon over even when it's not being compared to Pokemon/using Pokemon tactics in marketing material anymore
it's all so baffling too bc Yokai Watch did rather well in the west despite the Pokemon comparisons until it all came to a screeching halt around the release of YW3, and years later we still have no idea if YW4 is getting localized or not (I've completely lost hope at this point)

Like yeah I agree they didn't expect Arceus to do well and it isn't a "mainline" game . but after seeing how positively it was all received I can't believe they kept it traditional like I swore after they saw how badly SW/SH got lambasted for laziness they would lean a little Heavier into the legends side of things. now I'm almost exclusively waiting for another Pokemon legends. and Maybe it'll be like Celebi, Jirachi, or Zeraora.

(MY REVIEW) Tbh is not only the technical issues, the world itself is also empty and poorly designed. You CAN'T go anywhere want, or well, i guess you can, but even if you beat or catch over leveled pokemon they won't listen to you, and koraidon won't have the tools to traverse most regions, sometimes youre actually are heavily encouraged to follow a certain path to be even able to progress since you're surrounded by unclimbable mountains and unswimmable lakes, and when you finally have the way to reach paths you weren't able before, there's nothing there. A huge cliff? Nothing on top, a cave with a lot of unreachable platforms in the beginning? A few worthless TMs, the top of an island in the middle of a lake? Just a few regular pokemon.
The game just doesn't reward your curiosity and ends up feeling bland and just randomly put on together.
Also these must be the worst gym trials ever, literally, won't spoil them but rest assured that you will ask in disbelief how were they able to put together the laziest gym trials, or how the team star raids are so boring and how only one of the titan pokemon events actually is interesting as you actually have to hunt him, the rest are just there walking.
It's still pokemon and the formula will always work, so even the worst games are still somewhat fun, but that doesn't mean game freak should always be so lazy, they need to continue being called out, and this is once again, one of those moments. It's a fun game, but not a good one, a ton of potential wasted. 7/10 (it's still pokemon an it is fun but extremely poorly executed)

      Nice review!
I think Nintendo went the open world route just because they are not able nor interested in doing a nice linear story-driven gameplay. They tried with Alola (SM, USUM) but it was horrible, with too much hand holding and uninteresting, non skippable cutscenes.
Open World is/was hyped (sincerely I don't know why for a franchise like this) and GF just threw it in there for the fans asking for it. Now we have an open world with nothing to do in it, but catch and express battle pokémon.
The postgame is just another example and sometimes i think they thought: "Well, kids today just like to play online. Cut the interesting competitive offline postgame, throw a bunch of online raids and a stripped down version of a battle tower".
It's just sad seeing a very good franchise going down the drain :(

Seen both this video and your review on Splatoon 3. Splatoon 3 feels like a competitive beast of a pokemon that had it's stats raised over the years through its many major improvements, but it had an everstone that prevented it from evolving in the fact that no new major game modes like Salmon Run were introduced. Still it's a great game, and if they were to add something revolutionary it should be something like a custom map maker like Halo's forge to make fun mini games like Infection (I'd call it Sanitization after Octo Expansion) possible, perhaps it was just limited by the hardware.
As for Scarlett and Violett, it feels like that one pokemon you loved as a child (for me it's Pachirisu) that never got buffed by the devs to make it competitive since they never cared about it because it always made it to the top of game sales without trying. We've had other jrpgs and franchises like Final Fantasy and Zelda become more creative over the years to become the giants they are in gaming, yet Pokemon has not kept up with the times in both innovation or performance but it stays together with other franchises for the immense bias it has.

I finished sonic frontiers on switch yesterday and didn't had any performance problem, I really glad they released it on switch.
the problem here is gamefreaks they're just bad developpers,
X and Y runs bad on 3ds they said it's because of the 3d,
they said with sun and Moon that they pushed the 3ds to the max, really have you seen it ?? and they didn't make it 3d except for combat, Sword and shield it was just corridors and ugly textures. Legend arceus the environnement were ugly but really fun because of the gameplay. Scarlet and violet look bad, runs bad and they removed what made legend arceus Fun the gameplay...
the performance looks really bad when you have games like xenoblade 3 that runs great with bigger zones or even sonic that can runs really fast in big zones without any stutters and with lokked 30 fps.
they didn't take the time to optimize the game because they wanted to released it for the holiday season like always.

I want to interact with interesting NPCs that give me sidequests that are fun. I want dubbed cutscenes. I want Pokémon to actually live in the overworld and not just idling and walking aimlessly. the biggest franchise in the world should have AAA budgets, production times and optimisation. instead we get uninspired visuals and a technical nightmare alongside a few bright ideas. if TPC want Game Freak to make massive games on an indie development cycle and schedule, revert to 2D pixel art and give us a massive Pokemon experience that will at least run well on Nintendo's own hardware. still waiting to buy a compelling Pokemon title on Switch (New Snap does look good though)

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME !!
We need to show Gamefreak that they can't just shit out a game that looks this atrocious for the amount of money they have. There are so many wonderful open world games, play those that actually care about their franchise's fans. If you want to play a new Pokémon game, play the countless rom hacks filled with great game design and new content. You can watch UA-camrs and Streamers buy and play this for you. Otherwise, Pokémon games are just gonna keep getting worse, with less effort put in each year.

Because it's the Nintendo Switch, and the Pokemon Company doesn't delay games like Nintendo delayed Breath of The Wild for years, which still released with sub par performance.
Instead of asking TPC to throw money and developers at the problem, ask them to yell at Nintendo to update their hardware. Xenoblade 3 and Bayonetta 3 suffered for it as well.

    • @MelodyCrystel
      @MelodyCrystel 2 роки тому +10

The devs aren't optimising for Switch, as much as I can follow what people with technical knowledge say. (Looking at Zelda or Xenoblade, the problem is definitely not the console.)
Plus, on my end, there's always the general suspicion of TPC caring solely for profit and not for gaining a good reputation at this point because people keep throwing money at these games.

    • @malaki7123
      @malaki7123 2 роки тому +1

I know you want to believe in your heart of hearts that it isn't the console. But it's the console. As a dev, I've dealt with management making questionable things priorities, but if the hardware is crap, then you have to make concessions, and as a fan, you have to accept that if you're playing on the Switch, you're going to be getting subpar performance compared to whatever better spec hardware there is out there. If the design of the game is solid, you'll still have a fine experience, but if you have little VRAM or compute, then you can't just download more. The Switch is operating on nearly 10-year-old hardware at this point.

Pokémon most of their money aren’t on the games or just the games. It’s also the anime the trading card game, merchandising, manga, movies, and much more. As well as spinoff game as well and not just the mainline game with remakes including. With each generation of games comes with all I just mentioned. The games are somewhat like the spine of Pokémon. But with each generation, game freak was always bad at optimization.

I mean back in 1999 I was thinking to myself "man... wouldn't it be sick if they could make a pokemon game like Mario 64 all 3D and stuff!" 20 years later they finally got here! However, them frame rate drops and graphics just don't make sense. I mean, I know they can do better. Looking forward to the next gen console and next gen game. Gamefreak/pokemon could do with some competition but tem tem isnt it imo. Its just kinda empty. What I want to see is a really story heavy game with cute creature designs and stylish animations. Sort of a persona 5 setup but, frankly, with better monster designs and more aknowledgment of them as something other than tools which is the one key area where pokemon still wins out.

Is it TPC pressuring on time because of the rest of media branches (show, cards) or is it Game Freak just really being stubborn and staying as a small team (in comparison to other Devs). It's a variety of factors from reusing old code from as far back as Sun/Moon if not older, not having the proper resources/time allocated to fix/create new tools, to the Switch hardware being limited on various fronts, to Nintendo and TPC's "good enough" approach to the Pokemon games in particular.

Random guy here, I got the game early! I played on handheld, I still think it's worth it if you know what to expect
    My main complaints vs compliments:
    Complaints:
    1. Graphical Issues / Performance*
    2. Battery may drain faster than I expected?
    3. Towns are boring, usually not much to do other than beeline for the gym
    4. I haven't really found info on the food that you can buy everywhere, but maybe I missed something in the opening hours?
    * I was expecting it to be bad. It mostly annoys me in cities. Sometimes, it delves into "it looks so bad it's funny". Like, when you're running around with a bunch of sunflowers, for example 😂
    My main compliments:
    1) One of the three storylines got me emotional for just a split second.
    2) I like some quality of life improvements, like the autobattle or the TM stuff, or the healing, or pressing ZL in the menu to easily see and move Held items between pokemon, or *remembering moves*
    3) There ARE some pretty neat ideas. I came in expecting, well.. garbage, but I felt pleasantly surprised that there was some effort made. It's not all great, but enough of it is to make me feel content
    4) The general gameplay loop has been pretty good for me. My specific route may have been why this happened, but I haven't felt overpowered for most of the game. Gyms were still somewhat easy with the right type matchup, mostly. There were several times where I felt like "okay, I'm significantly over-leveled from my grinding" and then ran into wild pokemon that were... about the same level as me? Or several levels higher. Some other times where they were much weaker than me, but I usually used status effects for an easy capture
    4) Trainer battles are optional, but that really doesn't sink in until you realize "hey I'm poor", and then check your LP balance or go to a gym and think "well hey, nevermind!"
    5) Some characters are super charming. I like: Nemona (thirsty rival girl), Arven (emo sandwich boy), School Nurse, Salvatore (Positive vibe man), Larry (the most relatable gym boss ever). Not all of them have depth, but many of them are nice.
Heck, I was surprised by our sandwich boy. He gets better as the quests go on. He actually beat me in a battle near the end of his thing. It felt surprisingly good, I wish they let that loss continue the story, since it would have been good. Still, pretty cool
    Tips for a better time:
    1) As mentioned above, check out the quality of life stuff. The item switching is useful when you get Quick Claw (it'll help sometimes if you're just barely under-leveled)
Another thing is remembering moves. It is the best thing ever. Always check out new moves that pop up when your pokemon evolve. I would give my Pawmi line pokemon the move Nuzzle for a guaranteed Paralysis effect if I wanted an easier time catching weak pokemon that were too feisty to get in the dang ball
    2) Autobattle mechanic generally seems to think "if they have a super effective move, it'll be an easy win with little/no health loss". Get Pawmi when starting maybe for status effects (covered above). Try to get a team that covers most types, and actively rotate when you need to. I initially filled my team with ones from the starting area and got an electric and water that have stayed with me for most of the game.
Also: Auto battles DO NOT use PP. You can literally -murder- defeat hordes of innocent forest creatures for an hour, and be fine. Doing so also gets you LP, which is able to be used as cash.
I hardly battle trainers, but the LP and gym battles usually give me enough to be comfortable.
One more thing! Try to fight bigger creatures. If you're lucky, there will be an outbreak of say, a dark looking bull, which can normally kill much of your party with minimal effort. You can grind forever with a psychic type, while taking no damage, thanks to autobattling. They'll net you a good amount of exp too
    3) The Tera thing looks kinda lame/okayish to me, except it can be useful if you switch types to surprise a friend that thinks they'll get you with a super effective move. Of course, in game it's also free damage I guess
    4) Grass type starter is what I chose, it's signature move later is pretty good.
    5) One of the storylines (the best one) improves your ride. Try getting 2 of those objectives if you can, they'll make traversing more fun
    6) Take your classes. When you finish them, your rewards initially make you think "eh, that's it?", but that is not in fact it. They'll let you converse with teachers and build bonds.
Work with the.. Bio teacher I think? And he will give you False Swipe. It'll make things much easier later on, I promise
    - - -
Unnecessary explanation of how to build bonds
Basically, go to each exclamation point on the school map, find the teacher highlighted, and yeah. They'll usually give good stuff. Except Salvatore, but... Salvatore is still really cool, so maybe consider him regardless
Just want to say this because they make it easy to know if you can improve relationships. They'll only be available to progress when a prompt is there. I do not know how long you need to progress exploring before you can get them maxed out, but maybe check in after every 2 quests or so
    - - -
And yeah, that mostly covers it I guess. I could go on, but hopefully this will be enough to help someone out there

Performance issues aside entirely: no fishing? Battle tower/frontier? FORCED exp share From the start of the game? Unable to see stat boosts upon level up? Free camera during battles and inability to switch on and off attack animations? 70% of All Pokemon omitted from game despite Game Freak wanting a competitive atmosphere? Having Co op available but only for breeding and cooking? Making interiors of buildings no longer a thing and just have nothing but menus? Boring copy paste NPCs with nothing interesting to say at all. They have Made good games Before. Emerald. Fire Red. Platinum. I would even say X and Y. They are capable of it they're just Lazy because people Throw money at them because games have "Pokemon" slapped on the case. As long as people forever continue paying them for lazy garbage, garbage Is all we will ever receive. What reason do they have for making actually good games anymore if they're getting paid for way below standard? Wake up people. As a long time fan of the franchise I'm very tired of seeing them release far less than they are capable of. Speak to them with your wallets, It's the only thing they listen to.
