As amazing as this project is, I think the most valuable information is in you explaining what you tried and what you would do differently next time. Thanks for sharing :)
That box turned out great, my wife has been making noises about a tea box. personally I like the videos that show how folks fixed the problems they ran across (even the self created ones). It shows there creativity and troubleshooting ability.
Thanks! If you make one for her I would love to see it! I am not a professional. And never claim to be. So I run across a lot of problems. Ha. I just hope ppl can learn from mistakes like I have!
Your very comfortable in front of the camera, there is a charming way about you. The way you include a mistake and come up with a solution. Keep doing that. Its what makes you so relate-able and your a mom and pretty too! I use brass a lot in my work and have to save it is gorgeous with darker woods. Try Purple Heart with the brass. It sells out every time I make one.
As a lifelong carpenter cabinetmaker its a real pleasure for me to see that women are now also hooked on woodworking - it truly is the most rewarding and zen pastime in the world - even Jesus spent more of his life woodworking than preaching :-) First rate work, you have an eye for design.
Jesus huh??? Let me ask you this. Jesus cured the sick, fed the masses, walked on water and even rose from the dead. Pretty impressive. Is there a tool, Jig or even a technique named after him???????? I’m gonna say Jesus was a shitty carpenter.
Renaissance Man there may not be a tool named after him but any a messed up as a helper I’d hear “ Jesus f’n christ what did you do” so I guess it’s a training tool for tradesmen
@@davidk7544 Yes it does as any traditionally male dominated field has found. There are frequently unintended biases against women, so that even if you personally aren't sexist regarding the field that doesn't mean there aren't biases/discriminations present. It's also been found that a blase outlook also leads to one not seeing inequalities present. So while you aren't seeing gender, that doesn't mean it's a good thing, it's just not as bad as being sexist. It's important to recognize accomplished women who can/are role models for other women to get inspiration from. It's the same problem with people who say they don't see color often means they don't recognize the intrinsic challenge minorities have faced and still face.
Being deaf in my left ear and wearing headphones to watch this I had to wonder where the sound was coming from for a moment before swapping the headphones around. If no one had commented, I was going to suggest she made sure to make her intro/outro mono or stereo as well. :)
The hinges while being a pain to make them flush with the back, is the added detail that says: Quality, made by a professional woodworker. Keep up the good work!
LOVE those brass splines! What a great idea. Each video you do is a refreshing mix of creative projects, jig-making and problem-solving, and personal touches. Thanks for keeping it real!
I've seen this video thumbnail pop up from time to time. Never paid it any mind until I noticed that the bottom of our pantry is full of cardboard tea boxes. So now its my project. Watching a 4 year old video makes me appreciate even more your talent and desire for woodworking and how deserving you are of the new workshop. BTW ,,, the your old house kitchen was fabulous
Still catching up on your back file of work, and this box is good, Nah, great, Nah, it is truly beutiful and amazingly well thought out, organised and executed, including how to deal with the unforseen problems.
You have now become my favorite "process" and "but I figured it out" person. Please always include your mistakes - it is not only instructive, but very encouraging for those of us who are less process oriented. Beautiful box!
Damn phone is listening to me again. I was just telling my dad I want to do a project with brass or copper inlay and what pops up, this great video from you! Thank you!
Going through these videos, you keep coming up with ways to make things unique to your own build. I absolutely loved this one. Your frankness in problems and problem solving are always some of the best parts. Thanks so much for sharing with us.
That's awesome...I've done plenty of splined corner boxes using wood splines and I've cut brass or copper rod in to pins for a cool look...don't know why I never thought to use brass flat stock for splines...I'll definitely be adding that one to my trick bag!
WOW, stunning build Tamar. Love the brass inlay against the walnut, stunning grain. You looked so cold making the box with your coat on in your workshop. Thanks for sharing

Beautiful tea box, Tamar! Walnut and brass is a great choice. As far as the inlay goes, that wasn't a mistake -- it was a learning opportunity -- and you took advantage of it. I think you really enjoyed this build and that we'll (hopefully) see some more boxes down the line. Thanks for the video!
Nice work! I especially like your fast-forward filming that shows all the steps, but doesn't make the viewer watch longgggg real-time videos that some woodworkers inflict on the viewer. And no annoying music! Great job
@@3x3CustomTamar yes im sure i will, just a thought on metal inlaying and splines , would it be to much of a faff to use chrome , or would that be too blingy ? or even glass inlaying
Super cool project. I like how you dive into detail on your mistakes, and then how you sort it out. I make lots of mistakes on my projects and fixing them is half the fun lol.
That came out fantastic! I love brass and walnut together. I actually made a miniature treasure chest ring box for my brother-in-law's wedding and I used walnut and brass. I had to age the brass and am super happy with the way it came out. I am still working on that video though, so it will be a while before I get it posted, LOL.
Another great project, Tamar. The contrast between the walnut and the brass is incredible! I could see myself also miscalculating the depth of the brass inserts, what we learn by our mistakes. It may have been related to the freezing temperatures in your shop ;-).
