    Good thing you didn't get the job! You're helping so many people here. And your work in Public Health is amazing. It worked out for you despite that job not working out.

    Can I like this video more than once. Jeez! I'm in the UK and I totally get what you mean. Good think is I was a marketer before I left Nigeria so I kinda already understood the part of having to assimilate. My regional manager said to me when I started that marketing job in Nigeria, "people like people who like them, people like people who are like them." I've had that at the back of my mind since coming here. I'm still very different (I'm a hijab-wearing Muslim to boot :) but I try to keep an openind and honestly like the people i have to work with/ for. And yes, be a little more like them.

    Thoughtful and insightful points. However, you didn't mention one aspect I've always argued - the path of migration and quality of migrants. Someone who emigrated illegally will have a difficult time assimilating than someone who went through legal migration. The quality of migrants also matters. The kind of Nigerian migrants in the UAE differs significantly from Nigerian migrants in Singapore. Another one is people going to institutions that aren't well recognised. For goodness sake, someone came from Nigeria only to go to institutions the natives avoid. The opportunities will be minimal and worse still considering the colour of skin and country one emigrated from.

    Even now in Nigeria, most HR persons won't tolerate someone complimenting their looks and smell. I wonder why people do that, maybe so they look more confident.

    Hello Dr Ann,
    I really do appreciate you usually tips, they have been so much educative and helpful.
    My question is not directly pertaining to this video, but I has been on my mind for long.
    I graduated with 3.32cgpa (69%) 2:2 and most universities in Canada for masters degree accepts 2:1 for admission. And on another hand, graduate studies for graduate certificate accepts 2:2 for admission.
    Now my question goes thus;
    -what is my chance of getting a good job during and after the program with a graduate certificate compared to msc.
    -how valuable is the graduate certificate in the field of construction in Canada.
    Please advise me on steps to take.
    Thanks for your time and in anticipation of your favorable response.
    Regards

    Wow, This is wonderful and inspiring. It's funny though that you were kinda careful on the working culture of Nigerians (Worried of twitter attacks??...Lol).
    Please you don't need to mince words when saying the "bitter truth" and on helpful info for Nigerians wanting to emigrate.
    I worked with an American as my boss in an NGO here in Nigeria and I would be forever grateful to him for affecting my working culture positively...
    Once again, thanks for the video.
