This is a wake up call for me. I've been applying to just UK schools but now I am going to try out for US grad schools too... Can't keep my eggs in one basket. Thank you so much.
I've also noticed that there is no application fee for UK schools unlike the US. But the fact that there is funding and you can easily get jobs after grad school makes US the best option. Thanks for sharing!
I think the US is only better for funding for STEM courses. I'm trying to go to grad school for Museum Studies and there's absolutely no funding in the US, so I'm going to the UK. No application fee + only one year + much lower tuition makes it significantly cheaper, even though the visa is expensive (I'm actually American). There's no funding for my subject in either country so I think I have to pick the one with lower tuition costs lol. Very helpful video, thank you!
PhD is minimum of 3 years and 4years max in the UK. As a matter of fact any PhD longer than 4 years is not considered a successful PhD. The UK government want to have a database of successful PhD. However, those that stay longer than 4years do graduate eventually with a PhD but it will not be accounted for by the government as successful. The UK do actually have a stable semester no variation. Masters by taught is divided into Semester A (lecture, coursework and exams), Semester B (lectures, exams and problem based learning) and Semester C (Research project). The UK is welcoming, and for the scholarships it is very very competitive. Only the best of the best gets such opportunities. My PhD in Neuroscience was fully funded by the University of Aberdeen and I got two job offers within the University six months towards the completion of my PhD. Between no examinations is 60% or 70% in the UK. The grades builds up here as well.
Happy to hear that you attended ABU. You evoke good old ‘Samaru’ days. I believe graduate school in the UK is more expensive than in the US. You pay in pound sterling in the UK, you know. Perhaps, this may be due to the exchange rate. Good job prof. Thanks for helping humanity.
Thank you for sharing those gems💯.Am glad I have found your channel.Am aiming at securing a Chevening scholarship in UK. Sending lots of love from uganda.
I have really learnt alot from watching your videos. I have really been informed. I am a pharmacist and I am also planning to do my masters in public health.
Because of the differences you mention, there are also differing application processes. For instance, in the UK a student would need to make sure certain faculty members are accepting students. In the US this is not necessary and often just not wanted. There are other differences, but I am not an expert. Just someone who briefly thought about attending some programs in the UK.
Oh mehn where do I start? The UK just absolutely sucks... its cold and rainy and people are fake nice. Only positive is that masters degree is so much shorter than the U.S. Anyway, THANK YOU ANN!
The USA has no post study work visa currently whilst the UK has a 2 years post study work visa. I plan to find employment after my studies so I'm leaning towards the UK.
It is not that Uk is not welcoming. Academics is predominantly geared towards making money and the best strategy will be to return people home after their degree. I did my MSc there n I had to leave too. Its also the reason why a lot scholarships are not given to foreigners. They are supposed to bring money to finance their educational system.
Too much process maybe? They even have application fees, they want you to contact a supervisor and relay your proposal- in the u/eu its like a job position you apply under.
I have recently done B Sc honors from UK ,London in applied accounting but I myself do not have the slightest idea that what is the credibility of UK graduation in USA? pls post an on demand video on this too and yes I absolutely agree that people do return from UK even after doing post graduation for some reason or the other. One of the teachers told me to do MBA from USA rather than UK.
Thanks for discussing this but I think the title should be why you should choose US grad school over UK. And am sorry to say some of the information about UK schools are wrong WRONG. Only few people finish phd in 3 years and you're wrong about how foreign students are accepted in UK and so on.
It's just pointing out a wrong info and there is nothing wrong with that. It's good for those relying on information here to do proper research. Am just saying from experience and no need for you to sound rude.
That factor of the level of international students "acceptance" is a big one.. And most of the people I know that schooled in the UK are back home now.. So. Thanks for the solid info Prof Ann. #Ann on demand#

I'm sorry to say but this video is quite misinformed. And I must say, I'm surprised a professor would disseminate such biased information that is also clearly not well researched (makes me side eye US system). You and your sisters' perceptions and opinions are just that - opinions and not facts. 🤷♀️ I say this with kindness... Next time do your research first before misleading people with information.
The living situation is also different. The U.S. typically provides graduate school housing, but in the U.K. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN!

Oh mehn where do I start? The UK just absolutely sucks... its cold and rainy and people are fake nice. Only positive is that masters degree is so much shorter than the U.S. Anyway, THANK YOU ANN!
Thanks Dr Ann...I think the US is preferable
I prefer USA to UK... Thanks for your advice ma
The USA has no post study work visa currently whilst the UK has a 2 years post study work visa. I plan to find employment after my studies so I'm leaning towards the UK.
depends on what you are studying cause doing a STEM program gives you an OPT of about three years after your studies.
@Onuorah Ikechukwu www.uscis.gov/opt had to do the search for you but no worries. Which law are you talking about, please?

I also finished with a 2’2 and navigating schools that would accept that grade has been a struggle.

It is more difficult to gain admission into a U.S. grad school that it is in England.
Too much process maybe? They even have application fees, they want you to contact a supervisor and relay your proposal- in the u/eu its like a job position you apply under.
US is it then!

What's the fate of Nigerian students after masters as the current administration is not favouring Nigerians
The Chinese example sounds a lot like they were a gov agent or had family ties

It's just pointing out a wrong info and there is nothing wrong with that. It's good for those relying on information here to do proper research. Am just saying from experience and no need for you to sound rude.
Is it realistic to try and apply to both UK and the US in the same year or is it too much work?
That factor of the level of international students "acceptance" is a big one.. And most of the people I know that schooled in the UK are back home now..
So.
Thanks for the solid info Prof Ann.

Uk is more expensive than the US
you sure? :)
@@annondemand6607 Yes, considering the exchange rate of Dollar to Naira and Great Britain Pounds to Naira, I think UK should be more expensive.
