  • After much research, I present some of the differences between schooling in the USA versus in Canada. This is NOT an exhaustive list, so comment and let me know what I have missed or let me know if you disagree with any of the points I have made :)

Wow. This is huge! Trusting my guts it is then. I think I'm more of the Canadian gang. For Nigerians, the US sounds like Lagos while Canada sounds like Abuja 😂. Thanks for the information, Prof. This will influence my decision greatly.

Thank you so much Ann. This was quite enlightening. I've been trying to decide which pathway to follow and which country to choose, and with all of the detailed information you've given, I can't thank you enough for your selflessness.
Still..I've always had the childhood desire of relocating to Canada, despite the cold weather 😂..Especially because of how easy it is to get a Permanent Residence.
But like you said, all will be well.
How are you coping with the lockdown in this period Ann? Please do stay safe for us🤗🤗

I agree that US universities enjoy goodwill, yet, they still harbour some of the best brains in the world. US has the second most cited authors in the world. Can’t wait to be part of such system.

My good prof, I fully agree with you you. US is top of the range in terms of image; they outclass everyone when it comes to self marketing. That said, let's face it; marketing is one thing & quality is a totally different issue. There are countless Harvard products who don't live up to the marketed image.

The duration of Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) obtainable in Canada equals the duration of study ONLY IF the duration of study is less than 2 years. Two or more years of study is eligible for 3 years PGWP.
PS: One is only eligible for PGWP in Canada after studying for 8 months or more.

This was great and so informative! I have been in Canada, Toronto for the past 10 years and I'm looking to get my masters in USA. Funny enough I would love to immigrate in Texas. However small correction there for the post graduate work permit its typically 2 to 3 years. During that time you have to find Canadian Experience and it's specific jobs/ skills in order to be eligible for permanent residency. Also places like Toronto ,Vancouver, Montreal are super competitive for jobs. Everybody here has minimum a bachelor. Toronto has the highest capita of people holding a bachelor degree in North America. You mentioned it, school is relatively cheap compared to the US but as an international student you will pay 4 times the Canadian tuition fee. To be honest I would have gone to the US for my Bachelor. In addition to high taxes, high standards of living if you are living in Toronto( 2 bedrooms for 2500 -3000, grocery bill averaged 500, tel provider 75 - 80 $CAD), concentrated talent ,you get quite low salary compared to peers in the US ( fiy I'm a consultant in tech).

As a STEM person, I will pick the U.S because of the quality of education I would get. After study, if they don't want me to stay I will gladly look for jobs in Canada since you said it's possible and easier to apply for jobs there with an American degree.
All in all though, the U.S is bae for me. Thanks for sharing 🙂

I prefer the US to Canada, my friends think i'm crazy when i say this though but it is what it is jare. Canada is fine o, but like you said, their weather is just too extreme; then the quality of education in US is just top notch, and again, US rewards hardwork very very well.. just do the right thing in US, everything falls into place eventually.
Thank you so much Dr! You're selfless!
