61 year old man trying to learn how to create electronic music late in life and somehow landed on your YT channel. I did buy Ableton and a bunch of external gear but totally confused more like overwhelmed to the point of doing nothing. Trying to use CV, MIDI etc is too much for my brain. And love your reminders like "you can smile" & "this is fun". I suffer from depression so I totally got that. Thanks for putting out this content.🙏👁
“Sometimes it can be really exhausting and way too much pressure.” 🔥 Thanks, Alex, for explaining how this hybrid technique is your way of keeping it both musically solid and personally manageable. Modular synth patches are often a ton of work to create so we’re all familiar with this sort of pressure. It helps to be reassured that GIT GUD need not be our only option.
Okay, maybe the tension doesn’t beset EVERY player, but it definitely stresses me for exactly the same reason: I’d like to compose a musical structure, then perform it. That’s different from the extemporaneous fiddling with a set of prepared options.
This is inspirational stuff Alex, brilliant. Just how electronic music should be made and played. I started techno DJing in the UK’s underground free party scene in the 90s and your attitude to music making would have fit right in. I can pay you no higher compliment than that. I’ve liked and subscribed, as you kids say. Keep it up
mate I get yah , if you've been a dj , and your so used to holding a dance floor your gonna wanna create the same impact with energy ,with drops , and you wanna sound professional in your mix , to do a hour set on a modular on yer own is insanely hard , the brain power you need to monitor 4 tracks is huge , dos only have two records to mix .. using Ableton help just makes sense , if your having fun ,so are the crowd , its so hard to have fun when your spinning 4 plates and sequencing live , full respect , your Sets are the closest ive herd to a dj set in terms of keeping that energy moving up and down .. bristol was great ... the crowd were dancing .. I dont think they cared that you were doing a hybrid set .. keep going ...great to meet ..
You blew me away!! That is some of the best DJ tracks I've ever heard. I just put a techno rig together with Metron and Assimilator along with some great voices. My other rigs tend to be melodic (Sinfonion and Nerdseq based)or ambient. So dying to work in this genre. As always, thanks Alex.
Sounding great! Definitely not cheating, the only goal is to share the joy of your music, there's no prizes for how hard you make it for yourself 🙂For the overall DJ effects, don't forget that you don't have to group tracks, you can also do it in the audio routing, so you could create an extra 'sub-mix' track after your 2 lots of 8, route the output of all your first 8 tracks to that instead of to the master, add your DJ filter, trance gate, decimator etc on that one and map your midi knobs to those effects, then send the output of that track to master. As for needing a screen for clip/scene launching, could you use a Launchpad mini or something? You don't get to see the clip titles, but if your colour-coding is on point it's probably easy enough
Wow, thank you for this! I didn’t think about a bus instead of a group. That is going to be huge. Yeah a new launchpad mini is on my list as I have the old one with no color coding and a launchpad pro, which is amazing, but just a bit too big… because I only really mess with scenes I figure it’s over kill but being able to mute clips on that side would be nice. Thanks again for watching and for the great advice!
@@alx-106 that’s the one! And because it’s virtual software channels you can do what you like and have several sub-busses for bass, drums, melodic parts etc all with a bit of eq, limiting, compression, sidechain ducking etc, so you kind of bake a good mix in to the setup regardless of what you put in from the modular. All depends how complex you want to make it. Looking forward to see where you take this setup 👍
I didn’t know you had your own channel. Great vid. I recently revamped my setup, getting rid of my hardware mixer and audio interface, replacing it with an ES9 and your vids have been inspirational. Subbed!
Much love man ♥️🙏 As I'm rethinking my whole worflow, integrating Ableton Live not only to edit my tracks but for jammin' live, your approach unlocked soooo many ideas. I already have the LCXL for mix and master, and was looking forward getting the ES-9 to replace my audio/usb interface. I have the same philosophy about having fun making music. It's not cheating 😅 And most of all, I'm french and understood all without translation. For that, and for your wonderful modules..Thank you bro.
rings true on all accounts - got a modular, pulsar 23, ableton setup I'm trying to use. Typically we brought ALL the stuff (polybrute, sub37, roland jupiter xm) and its exhausting and stifles the performance because there's always something not working
Hello ALX 106, love your videos, really helpful to me. Please is it possible for you to walkthrough this euro rack setup step by step? I don't understand what module does what. Really appreciate that. Bye

Thanks so much for the comment. I totally get it. Happy to help out and glad you enjoy the content, I’ll keep going!
I'm in a similar situation. A little younger than you and a little more gear than you. But yeah.... I can make some nice fart noises now though :)

Love it as always! You and Shanda have me playing with playing hybrid. hahaha Love the insight
It’s working okay right now haha first time in my life it’s worked this well.
Totally down with you on this one. Use whatever works and is fun for preferment and crowd!

amazing! your video quality is really looking great!!! love the friendly reminders on your synth ;)
Thanks homie! Really appreciate it. Gotta have those reminders sometimes. Get away from focus face and back to bass face lol

thanks for sharing the technique and the tracks... no justification necessary, you bring the vibes either way 🤘
Thanks for watching and for the support!

Your you can smile sticker made me smile:)
Enjoying seeing this transformation of way of doing things! Ive come around to the use of laptop as well. Stay creative and motivating!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great Sound:))
Nice work 🎉
Could you show us how to connect the cables to the sound card?
Big Ups! Thanks for sharing your process! 😁🙏👊
Seeing as you’re making use of the DAW I see you were sidechaining your baseline to the kick too, nice. Saves so much effort from the modular case.
Thats exactly how i stem out and group my show.
Damn the jam sounds sooo effing good! Why don't we play more house music?! lol
Thank you, glad you dig! Trying to make it easier on us to do so!
nice stuff mate

rad. i really wanna dive down the eurorack rabit hole but can see the addiction hurting the bank haha

so the push standalone ist not the way to go? did they fixed the track delay problems?
No idea. I returned mine and bought a new computer for the same price and so happy I did.
Having trouble using Vcv in ableton as a vst
Doesn’t see my inputs. Outs work fine . Have you come across this lil bug ?
very nice
superb
Thanks !!
