       @effiksmusic For sure. I've thought about it long and hard. With set up there is no need for FX modules which I was using DIsting for send FX and the Zoia Euro Buro for the master... I dont really change any parameters on either of them when I play live. Pretty much just send amount and the master FX sends / filter amount. Launch Control XL is much lighter and takes up way less space than a mixer and those effects in another eurorack case.

    Nice Vid Alex. I've been using the Launch Control and ES-9 as you know. But you have given me some new things to think about. I really like your effects racks. Glad to hear you're liking the M2. I'm thinking I need to upgrade my 4yr old MacBook Pro. I'm always concerned about being bleeding edge, though.

    I use this multitrack setup too for recording UA-cam videos and performing at home, and some nice tips on the effects channels here. Might have to get myself a Launchpad XL as you’ve shown how much value it can add. If only the Push2/3 had faders lol

    It would be great to see how you use the es-9 configuration tool for monitoring and deal with latency. Omri Cohen is the only video I’ve seen on this. For me, if I try and record some euro drums with existing parts in ableton, I find the latency to be overwhelming in ableton because I haven’t found a good way to direct monitor. Do you find the same issue? Recording from scratch is no problem… it’s only trying to record against existing parts. Thanks

    • @alx-106

      I just keep my buffer low at 128 and use a little delay compensation. I have been using Bitwtig more lately as well because the hardware integration plugings all have a hardware latency setting that works great. But yeah, that would be a good thing to visit in a future vid. thanks!

    • @M_orcan
      @M_orcan 9 місяців тому +1

      @@alx-106 yeah the different heights thing is v useful, the tendrils stackables do that with the standard tendrils by being just tall enough so the normal ones slot under them.

    also you might want to just change the mapping of the ccs of track volume to stop at 0db rather than using the utilities for that. It's still useful to have utilities available but atm you might be using an extra utility device per channel for no reason

    • @alx-106
      @alx-106 9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the suggesstion. I don't know how to change the limits of the default mappings between the launchcontrol and Ableton. I just have the launch control set as a control surface in ableton settings, so I didn't manually map them. When you go into midi mapping, there is no setting for that. That is why I reverted to using a utility in the first place. If I could do that, I totally would as that would let me us utility to fine tune gain more. I just realized that with this setup, I would indeed need another utility if I wanted independent control that could turn up the channel past that set amount. If you know how to change the settings of the default mappings for a control surface in ableton, I am all ears.

    • @M_orcan
      @M_orcan 9 місяців тому

      @@alx-106 ah that makes sense. If you're just using the default control surface you might want to change the ccs on the launchcontrol end with this: support.novationmusic.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4411807214226

    • @alx-106
      @alx-106 9 місяців тому

      @@M_orcan The default mappings are dynamic, meaning you if you use the scroll button to scroll one channel to the right, the channel 8 fader and knobs all work for channel 9 now instead of 8. That is super convenient, where as if you map anything to a CC, it's always that. Components is great, but it only lets you edit the user banks, and those are just cc's, so you don't really have access to the same thing. I dont really get what the difference is tbh, but the out of the box mapping is pretty great especially because of the scrolling thing, in case you do want to have an extra channel or two beyond 8.

    is this going to work in PRO TOOL (first) ? i mean is it going to work as a normal whatever focusrite scarlett soundcard? im interested only in multitrack recording and i want to avoid external soundcards ...
    ?? connecting usb from this module to mac laptop i can set the DAW (in my case pro tool) to have one track for every input of the module? correct??
    no latency involved if i use it just for recording multitracks, right?
    (i have a macbook pro retina 2015 with 8gb ram)
    what about the power consumption? i saw it like 450 mA.... it's a lot.
    im currently using simple wooden doepfer case (capacity is 1200mA) and with this module current left will be not much! it's 1/3 of the total

    • @markbooth
      @markbooth 8 місяців тому

      The ES9 consumes a lot of power and i had issues with it in a cheaper powered case with noise coming from some other modules. Works fine in all my Arturia and Intellijel cases though.
      Also ES9 is a sound card that connects to your computer via USB C so there will be latency as with any other sound card, however it’s acceptable for tracking. I have an M1 MacBook Pro and it runs sub 10 ms at 128 and even works at sub 4ms at 32. You can output directly back out to the ES9 for monitoring but you’ll need a mixer or risk blowing your speakers. I output to a Fireface UCX II and use Total Mix to control everything. Hope this helps.

    here a setup im dreaming and working on for touring is 1x submodular system case 1x ES9 connected to a push 3 and the push 3 connected to usb via xone 96 🤯if you can make a video with a this that will be mad. No need extra jack only 3 cables to connect the set up, and a TC electronic Finaliser or DBmax on master input of the xone and then you are the king of the club.
    Look like u stop using the push 3 already lol, looking forward to see price down from Ableton and better firmware from it.

    • @alx-106
      @alx-106 9 місяців тому +1

      Yeah Push 3 was a mess on release. I decided to buy a computer instead… way easier to customize and you only have to do the work once where as with Push, you have to set it up on the computer, then move it to the push… at this point I’d rather just bring a laptop. I figured out that with an hdmi dummy plug you can just close the laptop and not be distracted by it.

    Cool video. I'm a big fan of a hybrid setup like this. I heard your set sounded awesome at the Machina Bristronica afterparty, so it's clearly working for you 😎 Have you seen the Rapid Flow Ableton template? It's loop based, but designed for exactly this type of live playing and much of it would translate directly to what you're doing. Stuff like limiters, compressors and EQ setup on the individual tracks for example means you can go wild and never worry about things getting out of control or sounding incoherent and there's a cool sub-master channel setup to provide some overall performance effects and a good mastering chain all with native Albeton (or Bitwig) devices. It's very similar to what you're showing here, but might include a couple of nice extra tricks you could build into your workflow. ua-cam.com/video/OEoSkSXK_Bs/v-deo.html has the detailed explanation of it.
