I used to have the same "rules "with drum machines but I found that if I just recorded the machine in and locked the kicks to the grid it made a huge difference. The looser hats and claps kept the feel of the machine. Like you said its all personal preference. Good video!
Maaaaaate that baseline is absolute fire!!!! This is making me think completely differently about how to approach Ableton and it’s something I remember yet forget to even do! Re sample and warp!
After You set up the warp markers on audio clip,You can right click, and slice to new midi track, chose - create one slice per warp marker, there is an option to preserve warped timing on or off if you don't want the audio artifacts, this way it is slice to simplers, and You can rearrange the sounds how You want via midi.
On windows it's Ctrl+space to play from your mouse-click in the arrangement view. And then Ctrl+j when you find your loop after warping so you can save on RAM when loading your project files.
i love to take percussion stuff that's in a totally different pbm and sometimes different time signature, and just time warp quantize it to the current 4/4 tempo i work in to create these weird almost random rhythms, it's very fun
Hey Ricky, thank you for all the great videos! You know what would be super interesting for me and maybe for others if you could explain how to turn some analog recordings into a track. I mean, I just don't understand the workflow of recording a jam session with analog gear and then how to work with it in Ableton. I guess there are some useful workflows and tips on how to turn a long jam into something useful in Ableton. I'm a dawless guy but would like to give Ableton an honest try, but I'm always feeling lost and don't know where to start. Maybe there are more people feeling the same? What do you think?
What’s up Johann! I totally understand what you’re talking about. This is actually been an idea of mine that I wanted to pursue in the next couple weeks. Especially with me getting a jam going with some samples on a sampler and how I get to the end of the song. So it’s on the books! You’re on the lookout for sure. I appreciate your input. Long story short, Ableton used as a glorified tape recorder is where it’s at :)
my homie Paul Birken is all about crazy exploration with his modular, and always with the rest of his gear. He understands music technology better than anyone i've ever met. GOOD ADVICE!
I love how Ricky makes mistakes in all his videos. Often you can learn from them yourself. It makes the videos more organic. It makes the videos more amusing. Just to name a few pros
A fun little trick I like to do on the Circuit Rhythm is quickly switch between my effects in my delay/reverb page to get a whiplash warping effect. Super cool grooves as a performance tool, found it by total mistake!
Soo good. I used to hate Ableton and Audio Warping because of latency issues, ruing my groove yadyeyadya. I just didn't know how to use it. I now erased my latency issues when recording in, (by going with lowest possible buffersize) and with Audio Warping I select the right algorithm for the job. Tones obvs work better for vocals and do make stuff sound good when used properly.
Nice video on a super useful tool. You should mention / investigate the different warp modes. They have a big effect on the sound and sometimes the best one isn’t the one that you’d expect
If you select the loop brace and then press the Up or Down arrow keys on your keyboard it should move the entire loop by an increment of itself (ex: if you have a one bar loop selected, up and down will move it by one bar)
Think you'll find stuff being 'off' is more an Ableton thing... I've switched to Bitwig and it's so much better when using external gear, no more half a bar for stuff to lock into time like Ableton does
You should consider the modular workflow Bitwig has to offer.....having said that I think you're on Bitwig, right? If that's the case then I'm sure you know.

Thanks for these videos Enrique. I don't make anything even close to resembling house music but always find something to learn from what you do.
Nice one Ricky, always a pleasure witnessing new funky grooves being born :)

Love how much fun you're havin' man. That alone makes this vid worth it. :)
Loved that rattling warp residues in the final bassline. So organic and groovy.

@@RickyTinez Awesome! Really looking forward to it! Cheers from Berlin / Germany!
Loved what you were feeling on that last Bassline. ❤️

That ending jam was so clean

This is a technique used on vocals a lot in tech house It's some glitchy goodness for sure. Nice video as always!

When Ricky puts on the Beeker-face (0:19) , no doubt the beat is dope
Thank you for that heart on my comment earlier! You're a true champ!!! 👍✌
Love the Ableton/Modular content, always learn something new!
You let go of some of your taboos. BIG step in growth. We all have them. Nice vid.
Wow so awesome! Please share with us these random bassline recordings with stems. So dope And in the end this sounds like a track ready to me
Thx for welcoming me to the club 😌
So creating generative baselines with your modular and then finding loops you like out of it. Cool
Love your vids dude!
We are all weirdos, we just sat here and watched this man beep boop for 12 minutes
Absolutely slamming. So good. The weirdo club is where it’s at.
hahaha! Thanks for the support Jbrunel

Oh shit the bass at the end! So heat
Awww yisss Ricky time! 🕺🏻
"You're a weirdo, welcome to the club" _is attacked_
If you press Ctrl+L/Cmd+L it will loop the section you have highlighted. A lot easier than resizing the selector imo.
Hahah, your arms at the end of the video got me, way to be yourself and just enjoy the tunes, haha

Gonna have to go back to Ableton soon i recon. Been on a protools flex for about 2 years now and before that it was logic for a year or so.
The hihatfigure is dope. RZ1 Hardfloor style.
The last loop is fire 😢
Yes! Thank you!
I'm glad to be one of the "weird" ones. Live is as much of an instrument as any other. You should definitely learn to "play" it
Hold that head up on creativity!
Are there any tutorials on how to build something like that?
Can you talk about mixing beats from POs?
fat bass lines! have you tried putting a clock or steppy output into Scales Trig input? It should lock in your quantized voltages nicely to the grid.
I subscribed to skillshare, but haven't really got into it.
RICKY TECH-HOUSE
Love that jacking sound great baa 👌🔥

Who else was literally doing the same dance Ricky was at the end of the clip. 🙋
Weeah !!
I feel like we need a weekly 3h live stream version of 'the Jam' - @ 10:58
Sometimes, all you need is drums and bass.
No, what you were truly wrong about was the S2400 and you need to follow up like you did with the MPC Live. 😐
I believe that's what the kids these days call a bop
The only rules are no rules, lol
@tomwebstermusic you at 12:30
“Check out this neck breaker.” Cool.
