Nice vid! I don't think there can ever be enough ES-9 demystification videos! It can do so much, but I guess with great power comes great big configuration tools!
So outputs 7/8 are used to support the expanders like the ES-5 and the others that expand from that. You miss out on them in terms of audio, but with the expanders, you can add A LOT of CV outs... gates/triggers, envelopes, LFOs, any type of control voltage from Bitwig. You just gotta use the expert sleepers silent way plugin to encode all that info into those channels, then the expanders decode it all and send it to the appropriate jacks. So for instance right now I have my ES-5 expander sending 8 gates to Assimil8or, and still have all the outputs on the ES-9 available.
I also leave my DC blocking off for most of my outputs, so that I can send CV out, mainly because I don't have enough expanders for CV yet. Then in my Bitwig rack template, I just add a high-pass filter on each channel with a very low cutoff to remove the DC component, name it "DC Blocker", and just disable it if I'm using that channel for DC CV.

Thanks so much for the heads up on the expanders! I should have rtfm about that before speaking. That’s super cool! Of course they’re not just wasted jacks, Os would never! lol

Output 7 and 8 are the expanders I think.

Correct, I just don’t use em so didn’t think about that in the moment.

Learnt all this the hard way like you lol. Interesting how you are using the headphone and main outputs as I ignore them and use an aggregate device to my main sound card so it’s easy to switch between Eurorack and normal computer mode. I can see why your way is great for live performance though. Nice.

Best recommendation for the ES9 is to connect it to AUM.

Hey man can you recommend the es-9 for pretty good audio quality? Have you tried the es-3/6? They sound ok but they aren’t as clean guess as my interface.

All seems logical to listen and read and watch, but anything I change on configuration tool does not change anything, and if relaod/rquest all settings are still in default state. What I'm missing :D?

Cannot get module to sound at all.... recognizes input and output but while using window driver "ASIO" only "ableton push" comes up as an option. From my understanding this is the driver option I should be using with windows. Any idea what I need to do to get this thing to function?

I thought outputs 5/6 were for an Expert Sleepers expander.

Yeah I didn’t look into it before shooting so didn’t say things correctly. my bad. I really wanted to just let people know about the 3.5mm outs being 9-16… it’s also spdif not adat… I’ll add some notes to the video.

@@alx-106 7/8 are for the expanders actually. In the video you said you don’t know that those outputs serve any purpose. Their purpose is sending signals to an ES-5 and the like.
