I don't know why but I have always loved the way he designed vehicles, so bulbus, some what similar to Hayao Miyazaki films. Akira Toriyama a true legend, and will be missed by many but his legacy will continue.
I love Toriyama. Both his Dragon Ball manga and various gaming contributions (Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest, Blue Dragon) helped shape my childhood. Looking forward to this Sandland game.
The man had a love of mechanical stuff that his magnum opus rarely let him do stuff. There's a reason the original Dragon Ball had credits with Bulma and the gang riding in various types of ships and stuff. Also, I really hope this does well. As a fan of his previous attempt at this sort of thing, that being Blue Dragon, where it had Toriyama's stamp all over it, the man's legacy deserves to be more than two spiky haired guys screaming at each other as they shoot lights out of their hands.
@@razorflossrazor2937 The Xbox360 game was great, with a load of fun things in it, and systems that worked well together, while being an interesting exploration of the typical abuse precursors that tend to dot the past of such settings. The first DS game is okay, I think that was Blue Dragon +, which was a sequel, and a genre change to a Real Time with Pause Strategy game that the DS loved so much they did several big franchises with it. It was slow and plodding, but still interesting in terms of its story. Then Awakened Shadows happened...and that's all I'm saying about that. So they did TRY to make this work. Again, three games, 2 on the most popular hand held system of their day shows some good business sense. The problem was + as a direct sequel that expected you to have played the original, and AS was...kind of not good, which isn't to say it was awful, it just wasn't beyond okay in terms of gameplay, and the plot was bad, so. Still, the anime was neat, just having the twists it did that were not in the games.
Never heard of this particular manga, but I love the aesthetics, I could spot Toriyama's style as soon as I saw the Tank. Thanks for putting this on my radar!
Visuals are beautiful. Toriyama creations holds a special memory in my late teen years and early adult years. Specifically the years before DBZ when Goku was a lil squirt with a monkey tail.. and Krillin was/is still Krillin.. Hehe.. Any who glad you mentioned him.. RIP Toriyama
Thank you for the video. The art style does look amazing. I certainly hope that this is a fitting swan song to the Legend. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
While the demo wasn't that great, I still had fun with it, especially with those bosses. Yea, I'd like you to cover this game sometime Mortismal. Congrats on the 300K subscribers btw.
Wow. Wasn't expecting to see you cover this game at all! I was mildly interested when I saw its first reveal, but now I'm slightly more inclined to check it out. Thanks for the preview!
Honestly, needing to actually repair the radio towers with your materials is a pretty fresh twist for this type of open world game. Neat. Always nice to see iteration on old cliches. The vehicles also seems like they've been done justice. Great stuff, given how big a focus that tank was for the original manga.
Didn't expect you would cover this game, been on my wishlist for a while. I'll admit I thought this was more like an RPG and not an action-adventure, but not like I'm not looking forward to it regardless. Hope the game turns out to be good fun.
i agree that a full fledged rpg would have been wonderful but i’m actually excited to play something that harkens back to the likes of ps2 games such as jax and daxter from what i’ve been hearing
I had this on my wishlist, not because it's really my kind of jam or because I'll pay full price for it, but it looks like the perfect kind of thing to pick up on sale and play in between bigger games. It looks pretty comfy thanks to that famous Toriyama look.
Very skeptical of this game. Not an anime fan but downloaded the demo and was very pleasantly surprised. The ability to switch up vehicles and customize them along with the combat was very fun. Plus it runs on my igpu (780m) nicely. Will be picking this up. Bonus points they include footprint mechanic. Nothing ruins immersion like walking through snow or sand and not leaving footprints.
The series is on its 8th episode and, for the life of me, I can’t find a single review or any kind of content on it. I think it’s fun, but I was wondering how far from the manga it strays… no one is talking about it, NO ONE
So IGN reviewed this a couple of weeks ago but there was no video portion. They gave it a 9. I don't hold much stock in IGN but even then a 9 is pretty good. Even then, I feel cautionary about the game. I don't know the source material but the lack of any questing in the game was a weird omission. Hopefully, it's cocern for nothing.
This looks VERY similar to Metal Max Xeno Reborn, a quite obscure (at least in the west) post-apocalyptic JRPG based on roaming the wastelands with a customizable tank. I played it on Switch last year, but it should be available on PC as well.
My only concern with this game is that the world will end up as repetitive and bland after few hours in. But other than that, I am sold. I like this Dragon Questy Mad Max world, seems really fun, and the inclusion of mechs to rely on is a fine touch.
@@MortismalGaming Understandable! One of my favorite games of last year was Jusant and I found out about it thanks to your check out video! Probably my favorite series of yours to be honest! Thank you for your hardwork
Looks a bit clunky in terms of foot to vehicle transition and vice versa. I think people will end up enjoying either vehicle or being on foot more and end up resenting the opposite mode
Play the demo. Switching from on-foot to vehicle or vehicle to vehicle is seamless. If you hold the button it skips the animation and just swaps into whatever device you selected
@@samantha_t99 I’ve never played a Dragon Quest game but I’ve been binging all of FF for the last year and have played Octopath Traveler 2, Live a Live, Star Ocean Second Story R (absolutely love the 2D-HD style). Since last May I’ve completed FF1-10, FF7Remake/Rebirth, Crisis Core and FF16 all with the platinum trophy. Once I finish FF12, 13 Trilogy and 15 I’ll be moving onto the Secrets and Trials of Mana to get ready for Visions of Mana. Then after than I’ll do Dragon Quest 11. I would like to see a review actually, thanks for covering the game at all. Unfortunately - as far as I can tell - this is probably a game that has a great graphic style but only average gameplay but we shall see.
already tried demo and it's disappointing negatives 1. focussed on combat mainly (10% for exploration and gathering) 2. only first section of a map (and treasure points on it are lockeaway because of lack of jumping vehicle (not to mention lack of access to initial city which to me is idiotically bad choice)) 3. characters constantly repeating same boring (and mostly stupid) conversations (quickly gets annoying) 4. main character is a kid (i hate kids in games) positives 1. quick vehicle change and customization everywhere 2. every vehicle serves certain function (tank destroys breakable walls while mech hover over small surfacess while motorbike use ramps to make long jumps) 3. customization allowes for active and passive combat changes but also for additional functionality (motorbike can change from defensive drone to droppable waypoint quick teleportation device) 4. some advices given by side characters are worth listening 5. enemy variety in both design and combat abilities first impression is so bad that could not see any value in it but your mention of settlement system got me interested (hope that it's better than the one from mad max and for some good and interactive story)
Any reason you don't ever cover these kinds of games using a gamepad? Seems like this game is built for it and the experience will be worse force-fitting it into keyboard / mouse controls.
