  • I've got an oil leak at the top of my engine so the van is off to the garage to try and get it fixed. The problem is the van is my home so what happens if I don't get it back the same day?

Injector “bleed” off pipe. Dunno on a Ford van, but it’s a piece of flexi tubing on a diesel Volvo and costs less than a fiver. How about keeping an emergency slush fund to cover a night or 2 in a Travel lodge, etc? Safe travels. 👍🏻

My old man said "Follow the van,
And don't dilly dally on the way".
Off went the van with me home packed in it,
I walked behind with me old cock linnet.
But I dillied and dallied, dallied and I dillied
Lost me way and don't know where to roam.
Well you can't trust a special like the old time coppers.
When you can't find your way 'ome.
    New subsciber. Cheers, Kev., mate.

Just come across your videos I have 2 rescue dogs so fantastic you didn’t give up on Rupert. Kev I’m returning to the UK from Gibraltar next year retiring at 66. I will still have to do some work to help me get by but it’s definitely van life for me. Going to start a UA-cam channel but have no idea how 😅 Thank you so much for sharing your story and inspiration 😊

I'm surprised at just how little thought many people give to just how precarious their situation is. They are only one bump, one accident, or one breakdown away from homelessness. The vans depreciate, fuel is costly and park ups won't be easy to find.

Hiya 👋 I've caught up with you, now watched all your back vids and this is your latest (I think). You are doing very well for a newbie on the scene, with plenty of subscribers and likes and comments . . . Keep em coming 👍👍
VAN REPAIRS: this is the absolute bane of van life, putting in for MoT, getting repairs done if it fails, and when anything else decides to throw you a wobbly ☹☹ You must have a 'van fund' for any eventuality that crops up ... or a good back-up plan, like sleepover at relatives for a cuppla nights. I would suggest you never put your van in for repair on a Friday cos if they have to keep it in, then you are without it for the whole weekend. So book it in for a Monday or Tuesday, or any day they are open the following day to avoid a w/end blocker . . .
STORAGE JUNK: that £200 a month is gonna drain your savings away, so STOP buying stuff and only SELL - Do you do a boot sale at all?? You might get rid of stuff quicker that way. When you put stuff on ebay/gumtree/vinted etc, it often takes much too long to shift, so boot sale might work for you 🤔
And if you really wanna clear stuff out you could put it on for FREE - there's always people on the lookout for free stuff (probably thinking the same as you, to try and sell, but all you end up with is Boxes and Boxes of 'stuff' . . . but if you can't get rid, then it's only costing you all that money in storage - ask yourself is it worth it??
Very glad you are making headway towards getting off the hamster wheel . . . Good luck 👍👍💯💯

I am glad you were able to get the van back. My stearing rack is leaking oil, not much, but enough to say it will need attention soon. Yes, major planning when the van goes to mechanic. Happy that, so far it is a good outcome for you. Good luck.

Guaranteed you are a Democrat supporter, desperate to display how much more virtuous you are than everyone else whilst doing absolutely nothing to help this fellow. Pathetic.
Me ? i am not a Democrat, not going to help this guy, not going to virtue signal, not pretending to care in the slightest.

    Brilliant mate,,
Glad you got it back ,,
I'm 56year old carpenter, living in the van,, so stressful having work done,in fact I've been doing more mechanical jobs myself, to avoid the garage, and certainly this year financially has been the worst so far for me, just can't justify hotels cost or mechanic for the basics, other than that it's a way of life thats given me a chance to step out of the rat race a bit, love the doggy,🙏🙏

Can you not use some of the items in your van build. I expect you have already thought of it but is it worth a car boot sale ?
Take care hope it all comes together for you and you can get rid of the storage unit to save some money.
Your dog is such company I have a Jack who has a bit of staffy in him and he’s such company especially when I go away.

Well, that's me caught up on all your videos and it's into the wee small hours! It's real, ain't it? I am in a Ford E-Transit (yup the all-electric) 350 L3H2 and it went in for its 'birthday service' last month, plus had a couple of recall amendments. It only dawned on me as I handed over the keys that I was effectively handing over my home! (And they didn't respect it but that's a whole other tale.) I was reassured it would only take a morning, but it is to be admitted that thoughts of having to book a B&B or something were flashing!
My build is also slow, but a bit further along than yours - then again, I don't have other work to distract me. I am quite capable of being distracted with tootling about the Bonny Land and avoiding going back to The Hutch to finish things off... it's a process and definitely worth doing! YAM xx

I must have missed you telling where your pup was during the time your van was in the garage.
I will be traveling and won't have a storage unit or other place to fall back on during a van repair. My plan for such a time is to rent another van and camp in it until mine's repaired.

If eng oil most prob oil filter seal or rocker cover gasket
Not much else if it’s at the top of the engine
    If underneath different story

In 6 months you'll have another mechanical problem. And, it never ends. They won't let you walk out the door without coughing up at least $700 (in the U.S.). Good luck trusting them.
