Dr. C posting... What a timely and relevant study! Understanding how recent college graduates use social media to consume news provides an important insight into practice, influence, knowledge, practice, etc. I especially enjoyed hearing participant voices and how you analyzed such voices to identify major themes! Question: Having conducted this study, how would you design a follow-up study?

Hi Aliya! Louis Medellin here. Great, great info! It’s sad how much younger people rely on their news through social media outlets. It’s so hard to determine what is real or fake these days. I really enjoyed the information in your presentation! Nice work!

    Hello Aliya,
Your study captured my attention with its relevance to the current landscape of social media consumption. It's incredibly pertinent to understand the perspectives of people of color on news consumption within these platforms. It seems clear that this generation leans heavily on social media for information due to its convenience. Your work in delving into the varied insights on social media's influence, despite the differences in individual experiences, was commendable. Great job on shedding light on such a significant topic.

I just want to say that I absolutely love this topic you pick to do your study on! As a millennial and a person of color that gets most of her information from social media, I can definitely relate. I feel like our generation and Gen Z rather get information from social media instead of the actual News because it’s quicker and simpler. I have seen first hand how misleading some information from social media can be. I believe that as people of color, we need to start getting our information from more reliable sources and not from News outlets such as TMZ or the shade room that can give misleading information a lot of the times.

Hey Aliya! This topic was extremely interesting because I know there are various interdisciplinary perspectives happening all at once when it comes to media information.
I’m going to plainly point that it definitely has to do with the problem of evil. A philosophical perspective on what is “actually” happening in our world. I know social media can be a helpful tool to be utilized for any information someone wants to gain access to. However, there are many competing motives that are floating around that would make a person go mad at the end. Great job on this topic it’s valuable to know and how social media is going to change in the coming years ahead.

Leia, I really enjoyed your presentation. You thought throughout with the information you shared was well supported by the resources presented. It is definitely staggering how content flashes across social media as if it were electricity through conduit. Like electricity information through social media is dangerous when relied on for news and political perspectives. The way you tackled policy was great to not only include diversity for educational institutions, but promotion of accuracy and transparency. How would we know whether accuracy and transparency is given and who would we rely on for it?

Aliya, I loved your presentation! It is informative, visually appealing, and engaging. Your findings echo what so many have been feeling about social media; jaded, scared, and desensitized. My only critique is that the audio was low; it is possible it was my computer. Otherwise, great work!

Great topic! I would have never thought of this. I love the graphics you chose for your slides. I think it was very well put together and I was able to understand the purpose. I think it was also great that you chose this topic knowing that millions of people are using social media daily. To be honest, I usually find out about a lot of things over social media. I guess that could be a good or bad thing for me. Other than that, thank you for picking this topic. I'm enjoying seeing everyone's topic and how interesting it is. Great work!

Aliya, I agree with the finding in regards to smartphones providing instant availability. Its important for people to look at multiple news companies and platforms to broaden their horizon. Depending on the media outlet they may be pushing and shaping your thinking by their agenda. We as a society need to do a better job at ensuring we don't fall into that trap/way of thinking.

Aliya: Great topic and presentation! As we've discussed in the past, I have done research and papers on misinformation throughout social media so it was very exciting to finally see this and hear other points on the topic. I would love to see future research on this including the introduction of AI into social media as 'bots' and other automated users and responses are already running rampant. Again, great job!

Hello Aliya, I think your research is so interesting, especially now with the SBS 17 bill that we are now struggling with in Texas to still find a way to include students of color. Social media is definitely an agenda driven outlet, it really has a lot of misinformation! We have a long way to go in inclusivity all around. I really appreciated your call to action of empathy and positive change! Great job!

From Jessica Devin - Hi Leia (Aliya)! This is such an interesting topic. As a Gen X - 45+ student I think it would be interesting to compare age groups and news sources. Different generations use different social media platforms. It's fascinating! I have trouble posting on Instagram while someone just 10 years younger can do it in their sleep. I know that isn't true for everyone my age. I am interested in discovering how your participants would answer the same interview questions in ten years. I wonder if being "instantly connected" will shift as participants get older. But I think that our brains are evolving differently because of our technology exposure. That would inform our news source needs and desires. Thank you for sharing your work. It is relevant and important!

Your research sounds really important! How do you think your results would change if there was a larger sample with all types of POCs?
