I’ve always loved using the bolt action! Even back in 05’ I appreciated how it only takes one line of inventory and it’s so powerful!!! even if you don’t hit the Regenerator’s plaga the damage you did on the body is so high that they’ll sometimes explode early before hitting all the plaga
I recommend the normal rifle, as once you have the exclusive upgrade, you do not need a magnum (30.0 Damage), and can kill regeneraters in 4 shots and the JJ (mini gun guy in 3 shoots). Plus you can shoot people anywhere as you do not need to shoot the head
I absolutely LOVE the bolt action one. Needs less space In the bag, cheaper, double of the firepower of the semi auto one, way cooler reloading animation and design, can get it earlier etc. The only bad thing about it, is that it shoots slower, apart from that, bolt action ftw.
At least you think so! Rifle has double the damage of the semi auto so 2 shots with the semi auto are the same firing speed as shooting once with the bolt action meaning you still have the same dps
Honestly using bolt action tends to make it so that on Nornal with the exclusive regenerators die before they can lose all parasites on some instances, on Pro? It can still do the work without issue and makes it much easier to kill them after a few shots even if you don't use it with the infra scope.
I always try to estimate the quality of a weapon on Pro, personally, and in that regard it's no contest. Higher rate of fire? What good is that when you don't have that much ammo to begin with? Better to kill in one shot than two or three, even if those shots go out faster.
using the bolt action ain't much of a challenge imo besides the slower firing rate, in fact the exclusive upgrade for it doubles the damage so it's like a long ranged magnum compared to the semi auto rifle
@@anseleanI see your point. For me the challenge is taking on a big group with the bolt action compared to the semiauto one. Making every shot count without missing and risking getting hit, where the other one you can miss and follow up with another one right away.
My choice was the bolt action rifle. I found that if I needed crowd control, I used the shotguns, TMP and pistols. Mine Thrower too. Hoarding magnum and rifle ammo was so much easier.
Bolt-action rifle's issue is not the slow rate of fire, it's the mandatory bolt animation after every shot that locks you in place. If you could pull the bolt later when you needed to fire again, or on the go, then it would make misses and fighting groups far less punishing. I believe you can do it in The Evil Within, so it's a gun much safer to use there.
If i have to choose between the two sniper rifles, i always pick the Springfield M1903 because when fully upgarded, it shows his real potential with his insane fire power by 30, much more powerful than any magnums when you play the first time, and the fire rate never bothered me.

@Wren Well, for DPS the Semi auto sniper is better because of the fire rate, but for damage per bullet the Bolt action rifle is better. I prefer the Semi auto because of the faster fire rate, and the damage isn't really a problem to me as I always aim for the enemies head, however if you miss your shot with the Bolt action you are basically dead (especially with a Chainsaw man charging towards you)
I went with the semi auto since you dont need the extra scope and it is far better for close range against regenerators and shield cultists (since u dont need to unscope after each shot), plus i figured the bigger mag would give me more free rifle ammo. Never really used the rifle against bosses so the extra damage from the bolt action is unnecessary, atleast outside of professional mode.
Respectfully disagree. Rifle ammo is not terribly common, and using a rifle to clear crowds is silly to me as your shotgun typically does that better. As well, what the semi auto rifle does in two shots to boss enemies, the bolt action does in one saving you ammo in the long run. As well, because of just how powerful each shot is the bolt action rifle essentially acts as a long ranged magnum, saving you the trouble of spending all the pesetas on the broken butterfly/killer7. Of course I generally base my opinions off of professional mode as both easy and normal you can get away with nearly any weapon combo as long as you have a bit of experience with the game. So all in all, the bolt action saves you a ton of ammo,a ton of money in regards to magnums while hitting as hard as one, and while not clearing crowds as good you have your shotgun for that.

Yeah it makes Regenerators tricky, but even a glancing body shot slows them down enough and the power of 30 means that it is still easy to bring them down with normal shots. That said, a weird detail? The Springfield M1903 never was chambered in .223. It fired .30-06 Springfield ammo. Maybe they mistook it for the Remmington 700 which did have models that could fire .223 cartridges.
Smart move because enemies take more damage in Professional and the 30 damage exclusive with the Bolt Action Riffle (Except the Gamecube version) kills them faster.
Bolt action is smaller, cheaper, stronger, and more convenient to upgrade. It's far and away the better weapon. Faster speed on a rifle doesn't mean much. If you're in a situation where bolt-action's slower speed is a problem, you probably shouldn't be using a rifle in the first place. The only situation where this isn't true would be against Regenerators, except the long stagger when you destroy a parasite mean's you've got plenty of time to reload the bolt-action and line up another shot, and with the exclusive damage is so high that you don't even need to bother with the parasite on the back, just shoot them again anywhere.
Semi-auto fires 3-4 rounds in the same amount of time it takes for the regular rifle to get off ONE bullet, meaning the semi-auto has a way higher DPS despite each shot dealing less damage/hit. Faster speed means everything when the difference between both rifles is night and day, and the semi-auto will out-perform the bolt-action rifle whenever it actually matters, especially against multiple targets so your argument doesn't stack up.
By the time you fire one 30 Dmg shot, the semi has already done 3 shots, all at 15 Dmg, making it 45 Dmg for the same amount of time. And you don’t have to leave your scope between shots.
for the regens you dont even need the speed they are stunned so long after each parasite kill. The extra damage kills before you need to shoot the ones on the back
Bolt-Action rifle for me then. I do use semi auto-rifles in some games, but in Resident Evil I use the bolt-action one. :) A sniper is calm and takes his shots carefully without pace.
I like the look and animations with the bolt action. But when I'm playing mercenaries, I don't like getting slowed down with needing to chamber another round every time I shoot.
I always prefer the bolt-action rifle, damage, reloading, looks all very vintage. It's especially overkill with headshots, just stay back and pick off opponents, making it very ammo efficient.
I always prefer the bolt action rifle, sniper is basically one shot one kill from far range. If I need rapid firing I'm using the TMP, when dealing with regenerator, I shoot 2-3 plagas until they got close and then blast them with the Striker. BAR has a somewhat advantage where I can see surrounding area near me between each shot and avoid getting backstabbed.
When I start play RE 4 about over 15 years ago on PS2 and then on PC port (Ubisoft port), I enjoy using Semi-auto rifle due to fast firing speed, reload speed, no need to re-aim every time I shot. But later after I try bolt-action rifle with exclusive upgrade, it become my favorite rifle due to it's exclusive damage output. Till now I use bolt-action rifle
Great videos dude. You know the Semi-auto rifle is very cool and quick to take Regeneradors down, and shoot quick to the parasites. But in my humble opinion, the normal rifle is really effective, when we talk to shoot, to multiple ganados, I know is not that fast, but a 30.0 shoot is something that I love from it. I choose the Rifle over the Semi-Auto Rifle. The reason is because it wastes less ammo and time killing Regenerators, and acts as a micro-magnum, making it extremely powerful. It is able to cause Salazar to open up immediately after shooting its eye once, and shooting Salazar itself doesn't take a lot of ammo, being stronger than even the Broken Butterfly for a good while until near the end of the game. For the regenerators, it is not necessary to kill all parasites, just shoot everything at the front then shoot the body twice to kill them. Easy,
If you are good at Headshots with the Rifle, it doesn't matter between the difference in Firepower of the BAR and SAR. Both Rifles pop heads and plagas in one shot regardless. The only advantages of the BAR are: (1) You somehow prefer Bodyshots over Headshots in which the BAR one shots Bodyshots while the SAR requires two shots. (2) Against mini bosses and bosses in which the 30 Firepower of the BAR is definitely useful on enemies which cannot be one-shotted. 3) Cheaper to upgrade and takes up lesser inventory space. However, the frequency of mini bosses and bosses compared to waves of regular enemies is way lower and you will find yourself in numerous situations where enemies swarm at you from different directions (eg. Water Room) more than mini bosses or bosses encounters. Therefore, instead of waiting for them to approach you and blast them off with a shotty, the SAR allows you to chain multiple Headshots in quick succession something the BAR couldn't. In short: (1) The SAR is ideal if you can score Headshots 90% of the time against multiple enemies but don't mind sacrificing half Firepower for mini bosses and bosses. (2) The BAR is ideal if you tend to go for Bodyshots (useful for certain helmet enemies) and prioritize base Handcannon levels of Firepower for mini bosses and bosses while sacrificing chaining multiple Headshot kills which the SAR excels at.

I used to prefer the semi-auto rifle as well, but very recently played through the whole game- a new game, not new game plus- with the regular rifle as a challenge, and it's not actually that inconvenient to use. It's actually got some great benefits to it. For one, it uses up less space- 9 blocks, 12 with the scope vs. semi-auto's 14, 17 with scope. Functionally, it's pretty much a long magnum that you can get fairly early in the game, and with consistent upgrades, stays one of the most potent weapons in your inventory until you get a proper magnum. And while it seems underpowered at first glance, it still takes off heads like nobody's business, and being able to do so AT RANGE is pretty handy, this being survival horror and all. As for taking out Regeneraters? Ok, so you won't take them out as fast, but unless you're a speedrunner, that's a problem how? Just keep your distance and use the thermal scope like you would the other rifle. And heck, I took out an Iron Maiden with non-plaga body shots when it had two plagas left- it did so much damage it still killed it. Its stopping power is ridiculous. I encourage people to try their runs with this instead of the semi-auto.
My fav weapon when i playing ( blacktail/red9, broken butterfly, killer7 ,tmp,striker,& semi auto rifle) addition 4 special weapons (handcannon, infinite launcher, tomy gun and PRL)
Something that people always seem to miss is that while the bolt action rifle is slower to shoot, it's higher firepower isn't its only benefit. It is also WAY steadier in aiming. The semi auto has a TON of sway by comparison.

Actually when dealing with regenerators or the Iron Maiden I’d like to inform you that the Bolt Action rifle is even more preferable, if not just the same as preferable like the semi-auto rifle. Allow me to explain… with the semi-auto after shooting the glands of the regenerator’s torso you’d likely be attempting to shoot the leg next, and once the enemy is on the floor you’ll be looking to shoot the last gland on its back. … HOWEVER with the bolt action rifle since the maximum firepower is “30”, all you need to do is shoot the enemy’s glands on his torso by first Attaching the biosensor (thermal) scope. Therefore after shooting all 3-4 torso glands, afterwards just shoot his stomach despite the remaining gland on its back. Enemy explodes = 💰 You’re welcome: )
I don't have a preference of Rifle as they both have pros and cons. The rifle has damage that rivals some magnums, but requires skill to use. The semi auto rifle is easier to use, but is weaker. So when playing I chose which one I feel like using for that play through.

@@ianfinrir8724 Yes, the H&K SL8 was meant for civilians and is for the most part seen by many as a “civilian G36” but the SL8 is obviously seen as being much worse, the magazines are similar but not interchangeable, it doesn’t have a muzzle device, and is more like a long ranged battle rifle rather than an lightweight infantry rifle
Btw, there is one thing very wrong here: The .223 round is a civilian version of 5.56x45mm, which is the round that m1903 rifle doesn't take. It takes 30-06 round which is 7.62x63mm
The .223 is a little shorter than 5.56 and the reason the bolt action rifle was chambered in .223 was so that the developers didn't have to add two different rifle ammunitions which would make the game more complicated.
I never use the rifle at close range, so faster shoots is just a waste, 30dmg also means, you can pretty much kill the re generator without shooting the parasites using only the rifle, it takes around 5-7 shoots, while you need 5-7 shoots to kill all the parasites
Idk, it's tricky this time. The semi auto put you in a comfortable place against crowds or agile enemies (Novistadors, Wolfs...) by its awesome firing rate. It can be a good replacement weapon in case of lack of other ammunitions. And it still deal powerful damages though. Totally usable against stronger freak. But easy with it: We are often out of ammo with this kind of weapon! The bolt action is heavy, slow... but rip faces. It's clearly a magnum wannabe, even rivaling with a real magnum this time, the _"Killer"_ (that's kinda why I don't like this magnum). You can use it against ganados if you want, but for me, its utility is for some special enemies with high resistance (Garrador, Salvador...). Having them in distance is a good idea. Piece of luck, the Rifle is a sniping weapon before all. Even against Regeneradors! If your accuracy don't suck (things that the semi auto don't care with its speed), you can sometime explode it without killing all its parasites! Because yeah: More powerful, the more ammunitions you spare. *Just. Don't. SUCK. At aiming.* It's a bolt action, so be very careful at close range. Personally, I took the first "first", then the semiautomatic... to after get back to my first rifle. And never changed then. ;)
Indeed. The Red9 is in fact a Mauser C96 pistol in the real life. A real beauty; just like the Merchant said, "A gun for an avid gun collector". Very rare these days, though. If you have done research back and forth, there's more to where those guns came from.
I did a comparison my self And i can tel you the results Caliber rifle tow a Garador :1 shot SEMI AUTO RIFLE : 2 shots Regenerators (caliber rifle ):8 shots. Regenerator (semi auto rifle):16 shots.
Real pros use the semi. I actually in some games had so much rifle ammo stockpiled I'd just put my handgun on hold for awhile while I burned through it.
i prefer the semi-auto version. yes i know i have to buy it but the regenerators are exactly the reason why. also, when a giant group of enemies run towards you, youre going to need speed more than power when youve already got headshots down
The bolt-action is better imo. For the regenarators that have 5 parasites, if the 5th shot hits anywhere on the body it'll kill the regenarator (with the 30.0 dmg upgrade). In most playthroughs, I usually upgrade the rifle first because thats like the go to weapon I use for bosses/sub-bosses

Bolt Action Rifle gives me that survival horror feeling, especially when i try to kill Regenerators. Every reload animation becomes intense.
Often missed perk of the bolt-action: takes less room in suitcase.
Still takes up so much space in your starter briefcase. Which is why I usually don't recommend getting it right away.

It needs 5 less space in the inventory as well, nobody ever mentions that
in addition you can check your surrounding between each shot to avoid getting backstabbed and/or getting better position.

The only situation where this isn't true would be against Regenerators, except the long stagger when you destroy a parasite mean's you've got plenty of time to reload the bolt-action and line up another shot, and with the exclusive damage is so high that you don't even need to bother with the parasite on the back, just shoot them again anywhere.
Semi-auto fires 3-4 rounds in the same amount of time it takes for the regular rifle to get off ONE bullet, meaning the semi-auto has a way higher DPS despite each shot dealing less damage/hit.
Faster speed means everything when the difference between both rifles is night and day, and the semi-auto will out-perform the bolt-action rifle whenever it actually matters, especially against multiple targets so your argument doesn't stack up.
By the time you fire one 30 Dmg shot, the semi has already done 3 shots, all at 15 Dmg, making it 45 Dmg for the same amount of time.
And you don’t have to leave your scope between shots.
@@JRMAV1 That's true but rifle ammo isn't super common, so the bolt action still as the edge. If you have a lot of ammo then the semi auto is better.
for the regens you dont even need the speed they are stunned so long after each parasite kill. The extra damage kills before you need to shoot the ones on the back
Bolt-Action rifle for me then. I do use semi auto-rifles in some games, but in Resident Evil I use the bolt-action one. :) A sniper is calm and takes his shots carefully without pace.
I like the look and animations with the bolt action. But when I'm playing mercenaries, I don't like getting slowed down with needing to chamber another round every time I shoot.

I always prefer the bolt-action rifle, damage, reloading, looks all very vintage. It's especially overkill with headshots, just stay back and pick off opponents, making it very ammo efficient.

Takedrugskillabear Recently bought the game, and I have to agree, he is slow as a sniper.
I always prefer the bolt action rifle, sniper is basically one shot one kill from far range. If I need rapid firing I'm using the TMP, when dealing with regenerator, I shoot 2-3 plagas until they got close and then blast them with the Striker. BAR has a somewhat advantage where I can see surrounding area near me between each shot and avoid getting backstabbed.
When I start play RE 4 about over 15 years ago on PS2 and then on PC port (Ubisoft port), I enjoy using Semi-auto rifle due to fast firing speed, reload speed, no need to re-aim every time I shot. But later after I try bolt-action rifle with exclusive upgrade, it become my favorite rifle due to it's exclusive damage output. Till now I use bolt-action rifle
According to the ATF both the Matilda and the Red 9 (with stock) are rifles as well
These rifles were based from Springfield M1903A4 rifle with 30-06 Springfield ammo, and HK SL8 with 5.56 NATO or 223 Remington ammo.

The semi-auto rifle is more efficient because of the firing speed and capacity but the damage is half unlike the bolt action rifle.

You know the Semi-auto rifle is very cool and quick to take Regeneradors down, and shoot quick to the parasites. But in my humble opinion, the normal rifle is really effective, when we talk to shoot, to multiple ganados, I know is not that fast, but a 30.0 shoot is something that I love from it. Whoever nice video ;)
I'm all about getting bang for your buck. It makes hoarding valuable ammo easier.
I choose the Rifle over the Semi-Auto Rifle. The reason is because it wastes less ammo and time killing Regenerators, and acts as a micro-magnum, making it extremely powerful.
It is able to cause Salazar to open up immediately after shooting its eye once, and shooting Salazar itself doesn't take a lot of ammo, being stronger than even the Broken Butterfly for a good while until near the end of the game.
For the regenerators, it is not necessary to kill all parasites, just shoot everything at the front then shoot the body twice to kill them. Easy,
I wish the semiautomatic had a laser sight option as well.

I barely use the rifle. Regenerators and the BNBG,s (the Wire reference)+ some very specific places like the villige cart ride
If you are good at Headshots with the Rifle, it doesn't matter between the difference in Firepower of the BAR and SAR. Both Rifles pop heads and plagas in one shot regardless.
The only advantages of the BAR are:
(1) You somehow prefer Bodyshots over Headshots in which the BAR one shots Bodyshots while the SAR requires two shots.
(2) Against mini bosses and bosses in which the 30 Firepower of the BAR is definitely useful on enemies which cannot be one-shotted.
3) Cheaper to upgrade and takes up lesser inventory space.
However, the frequency of mini bosses and bosses compared to waves of regular enemies is way lower and you will find yourself in numerous situations where enemies swarm at you from different directions (eg. Water Room) more than mini bosses or bosses encounters. Therefore, instead of waiting for them to approach you and blast them off with a shotty, the SAR allows you to chain multiple Headshots in quick succession something the BAR couldn't.
In short:
(1) The SAR is ideal if you can score Headshots 90% of the time against multiple enemies but don't mind sacrificing half Firepower for mini bosses and bosses.
(2) The BAR is ideal if you tend to go for Bodyshots (useful for certain helmet enemies) and prioritize base Handcannon levels of Firepower for mini bosses and bosses while sacrificing chaining multiple Headshot kills which the SAR excels at.

Loved rifles while I was playing on PC, yet now on Nintendo Switch, I feel bad playing with it.
I used to prefer the semi-auto rifle as well, but very recently played through the whole game- a new game, not new game plus- with the regular rifle as a challenge, and it's not actually that inconvenient to use. It's actually got some great benefits to it.
For one, it uses up less space- 9 blocks, 12 with the scope vs. semi-auto's 14, 17 with scope.
Functionally, it's pretty much a long magnum that you can get fairly early in the game, and with consistent upgrades, stays one of the most potent weapons in your inventory until you get a proper magnum. And while it seems underpowered at first glance, it still takes off heads like nobody's business, and being able to do so AT RANGE is pretty handy, this being survival horror and all.
As for taking out Regeneraters? Ok, so you won't take them out as fast, but unless you're a speedrunner, that's a problem how? Just keep your distance and use the thermal scope like you would the other rifle. And heck, I took out an Iron Maiden with non-plaga body shots when it had two plagas left- it did so much damage it still killed it. Its stopping power is ridiculous.
I encourage people to try their runs with this instead of the semi-auto.

I played the whole game with just the first rifle and had no problems with the Regenerators or Iron Maidens.
My fav weapon when i playing ( blacktail/red9, broken butterfly, killer7 ,tmp,striker,& semi auto rifle) addition 4 special weapons (handcannon, infinite launcher, tomy gun and PRL)

Something that people always seem to miss is that while the bolt action rifle is slower to shoot, it's higher firepower isn't its only benefit. It is also WAY steadier in aiming. The semi auto has a TON of sway by comparison.
That kinda makes sense because 1: it balances the game a little, and 2: the SL8 is very front heavy for a modern rifle.

Actually when dealing with regenerators or the Iron Maiden I’d like to inform you that the Bolt Action rifle is even more preferable, if not just the same as preferable like the semi-auto rifle. Allow me to explain… with the semi-auto after shooting the glands of the regenerator’s torso you’d likely be attempting to shoot the leg next, and once the enemy is on the floor you’ll be looking to shoot the last gland on its back. … HOWEVER with the bolt action rifle since the maximum firepower is “30”, all you need to do is shoot the enemy’s glands on his torso by first Attaching the biosensor (thermal) scope. Therefore after shooting all 3-4 torso glands, afterwards just shoot his stomach despite the remaining gland on its back.

I don't have a preference of Rifle as they both have pros and cons.
The rifle has damage that rivals some magnums, but requires skill to use.
The semi auto rifle is easier to use, but is weaker. So when playing I chose which one I feel like using for that play through.

Bolt action rifle: high damage (save ammo) but slower firing speed & reload.
Semi-auto rifle: faster firing speed with less damage than bolt action rifle.
Rifles possible real life counterparts:
Base rifle: This rifle is based off of the real Springfield 1903 bolt-action rifle
Semiautomatic rifle: seems to be a mix of both the H&K SL8 and the H&K G36

@@ianfinrir8724 Yes, the H&K SL8 was meant for civilians and is for the most part seen by many as a “civilian G36” but the SL8 is obviously seen as being much worse, the magazines are similar but not interchangeable, it doesn’t have a muzzle device, and is more like a long ranged battle rifle rather than an lightweight infantry rifle
Btw, there is one thing very wrong here: The .223 round is a civilian version of 5.56x45mm, which is the round that m1903 rifle doesn't take. It takes 30-06 round which is 7.62x63mm
The .223 is a little shorter than 5.56 and the reason the bolt action rifle was chambered in .223 was so that the developers didn't have to add two different rifle ammunitions which would make the game more complicated.

I never use the rifle at close range, so faster shoots is just a waste, 30dmg also means, you can pretty much kill the re generator without shooting the parasites using only the rifle, it takes around 5-7 shoots, while you need 5-7 shoots to kill all the parasites
Idk, it's tricky this time.
The semi auto put you in a comfortable place against crowds or agile enemies (Novistadors, Wolfs...) by its awesome firing rate.
It can be a good replacement weapon in case of lack of other ammunitions.
And it still deal powerful damages though. Totally usable against stronger freak. But easy with it: We are often out of ammo with this kind of weapon!
The bolt action is heavy, slow... but rip faces. It's clearly a magnum wannabe, even rivaling with a real magnum this time, the _"Killer"_ (that's kinda why I don't like this magnum).
You can use it against ganados if you want, but for me, its utility is for some special enemies with high resistance (Garrador, Salvador...). Having them in distance is a good idea.

Even against Regeneradors! If your accuracy don't suck (things that the semi auto don't care with its speed), you can sometime explode it without killing all its parasites!

Indeed. The Red9 is in fact a Mauser C96 pistol in the real life. A real beauty; just like the Merchant said, "A gun for an avid gun collector". Very rare these days, though.

SEMI AUTO RIFLE : 2 shots
Regenerators (caliber rifle ):8 shots.
Regenerator (semi auto rifle):16 shots.
You can take out Salazar in 6 shots with the BAR fully upgraded.
I favour the 1-shot kill. :)
The semi auto is probably better but i prefer the bolt action. If you use the ditman glitch its reload animation is hilarious

The regular rifle is always the best option to me because every 10 shots i do 9 of them hit.
Real pros use the semi. I actually in some games had so much rifle ammo stockpiled I'd just put my handgun on hold for awhile while I burned through it.

i prefer the semi-auto version. yes i know i have to buy it but the regenerators are exactly the reason why. also, when a giant group of enemies run towards you, youre going to need speed more than power when youve already got headshots down
semi-auto is superior to the bolt-action for sure.
You can also kill those regenerators with only knife, if you know how (It tooks 95 hits)
Besides U3, the regenerators and iron maidens exploding is the grossest thing in this game...
The bolt-action is better imo. For the regenarators that have 5 parasites, if the 5th shot hits anywhere on the body it'll kill the regenarator (with the 30.0 dmg upgrade).
In most playthroughs, I usually upgrade the rifle first because thats like the go to weapon I use for bosses/sub-bosses
i don't like the scope (rifle) scope (auto rifle) i do like the rifle (call of duty rifle)
I fucking knife my regenerators, spares bullets real good.
