I was astonished when he said RPG doesn't stands for Rocket Propelled Grenade and went to do a little research. "The RPG-7, which stands for the Russian Ruchnoy Protivotankovvy Granatomyot or hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher (although it is more frequently called a “Rocket Propelled Grenade” or "RPG"), is a further development of the 1949 RPG-2, itself based on the World War II German Panzerfaust and US Bazooka." Thanks, man! I'd never know it!
A little detail about the rifle doing so little damage: The gameplay shows a pretty early moment of the game in which you can't upgrade that much any weapon. And finding gameplay of someone using that rifle later on is more difficult since by that point you will have a better rifle (gameplay wise). But that rifle based on the Springfield when fully upgraded is one of the most potent weapons in the game although it's also one of the slowest. Source: what little I remember playing it over 5 to 8 years ago.
Fun fact, the first gun leon has at the start of the gun is a custom made gun (the sliver ghost) was made by Joseph kendo, so its a modded gun with different parts i think to make the gun better in some way.
6:33 Funny, since the TMP basically replaced the pistol as my main stunning weapon until the ammo for it ran out, or I got my hands on the Blacktail. Although, that was probably because mouse aiming with it is basically a piece of cake, so headshots and kneeshots were easy and plentiful to pull off.
Was hoping he would talk about the punisher. Figured he would say it's weird that a Five-seveN would fire the same caliber as the other pistols, but that it works for balancing
Kind of surprised he didn't mention the poorly named: "Riot Gun" shotgun as a riot gun is (and I'm sorry if this is horrible wrong) an automatic rifle with a grenade launcher, where the RE4 riot gun is a military grade shotgun.
An automatic rifle with a grenade launcher would usually be a "battle rifle". I've never heard "riot gun" used in that sense, and shotguns which can easily be loaded with "less-lethal" ammunition are routinely used to suppress riots. They tend to have big barrel mags, much like the RG6 grenade launcher, which the Stryker bears a strong resemblance to (and which is used in the same way).
It should also be noted that the Ganados react differently to gunshots than humans do. The Ganados are not as sensitive to pain, similar to the zombies from previous Resident Evil titles, and they don't need to hold their wound for very long, even if they are shot in the face.
But Leon does wind the striker? It shows it after he loads the magic two shells in all RE games, instead of racking a slide he grabs the winding key and gives it a quick crank before holding it at the ready, you can even hear the crank noise.
Although the C96 with a Laser sight is a bit weird, it does seem to be a ww2 experimental laser sight that some lugers had mounted to them, were it seems it uses the bodies just natural electrical current that runs through us. I think forgotten weapons has a video on it
It should be noted that Johnathan is viewing footage from the HD version of the game as seen by how clear and defined the weapon models look. I played the PS2 port back in the day and I can remember the Red9 having a different texture than the HD version. The old Red9 looked a lot more rusty and beat up than the clean version you see in the HD footage.
This all brings back ancient memories of arguing Blacktail vs Red9, BAR vs SAR, Killer7 vs Broken Butterfly, and Riot vs Striker on GameFAQs back in 2005...yikes. Going off memory, the bolt-action rifle was low-damage at first since you acquire it quite early (can actually buy it on I think the second or third Merchant spot?). However, its "exclusive" final upgrade, not available until fairly late in the game (maybe not even until the Island?) shot its damage from something like 12 to 30, or did from the PS2 port onwards, so at that point it would mostly kill normal enemies with one body shot. I also think Mr. Ferguson is actually exactly on-point with the scope for the BAR not matching the weapon, in that you buy the custom longer-range scope separately to replace the one it arrives with (and then there's the thermal scope option for engaging the famed regneradors).
I remember playing this on the GC and then got a really cheap steel book for the ps2... Totally blew my mind...my fav handguns were the Red9 to upgrade into a beast and then that gun you got for free by shooting the 30 blue medals (I think)... Matilda maybe? It went through a few enemies. Was great!
The Punisher is what you’re looking for. If you shoot 10 or more medallions, you get it for free. And the Matilda was an unlockable weapon after clearing the game once alongside with the infinite rocket launcher.
I guess I'm the only one who has NOT played Resident Evil 4 yet. But, it is coming out again in VR and I will finally play it then. Oct. 21, 2021 So I am here to see the weapons I will have to use.

The 1911 in game was a magnum version. That is a real gun you can buy. Its wildly expensive
Rambo 3 has the explosive arrows. You were correct.
What about the Broken Butterfly, riot shotgun, regular shotgun, semiautomatic rifle, and Ada's pistol?
Metal Gear Solid 4 has a lot of focus on the guns, it would great to try to tackle that next!
The Black Tail is the H&K Mark 23 , right ?
You should do one about the metro series
I remember playing this on the GC and then got a really cheap steel book for the ps2... Totally blew my mind...my fav handguns were the Red9 to upgrade into a beast and then that gun you got for free by shooting the 30 blue medals (I think)... Matilda maybe? It went through a few enemies. Was great!
The Punisher is what you’re looking for. If you shoot 10 or more medallions, you get it for free. And the Matilda was an unlockable weapon after clearing the game once alongside with the infinite rocket launcher.
I'd really love to see him look at the guns from the new Wolfenstein games since most are twisted analogues to actual European WWII weapons
13:00 takes a full power rifle bullet to the shoulder and leg and keeps coming lol.
This dude really has both firearms expertise and an understanding of video games. Gamespot struck gold and these videos rock.
im happy this guy acknowledges its a video game and takes some liberties with certain things
Can someone please tell me what the name of the game that is show at 0:26
is
I guess I'm the only one who has NOT played Resident Evil 4 yet. But, it is coming out again in VR and I will finally play it then. Oct. 21, 2021 So I am here to see the weapons I will have to use.
Actually, now that you mention it, it does look like Leon winds the striker.
Saw the thumbnail and thought this was Sam Lake for a sec
Until he pointed it out I never knew the red9 actually has a nine engraved to it’s handle
