Around the time resident evil 5 came out I remember hearing that he buffed out to keep up with wesker’s enhanced strength but I don’t know if that’s the canon reason.

@@TheDraken03 Yeah, he actually started to lift weights after his meeting with Wesker in CV which he got his ass kicked alot. In the main campaing of 5 he was at his biggest duo to his upcoming fight against Wesker, and after 5 he started to get "smaller".
Also, it was a option of Capcom to separete Chris from Leon, making Chris look like a buff comando type of hero.

Like h&k needs that, the civilian version can still be found but be expected to fork over $1,200 plus
To be honest the VP-70Z (the civilian model) and the VP-70M (the military model) are not very good pistols even in their time. There are plenty of other H&K pistols that are 1000 times better. That could and would be used if you REALLY wanted to advertise H&K.
The VP-70 did help pave the way for more plastic framed pistols but if you ever shot one or knew someone who shot one you would know of all the problems it had. Especially the trigger! Ive heard people say that it was the worst pistol trigger that they had ever used and I agree. Lol and it really is that BAD to. It is NOT an exaggeration. LOL. It does work and isn't junk but you can do better.

The vo70 is a piece of crap with a joke for a trigger.
2:30 that juts sounds like one gunshot. (Sees three shells fly out) oh my god.
The idea is the cycle is so high that all three shots will land in a near identical grouping. The kick is sizable but the recoil won't effect the 2nd or 3rd round. The 94. For as much as a disaster that like platform ended up being, had a 2 round burst that was similar at an rpm of 1850.
I actually had to watch that back 3 times before I caught that, I thought he was shooting one at a time, holy shit.

Also to accentuate the OP's point, this is not only a random pistol but one where the _civilian variant_ really never caught on with the public or really anyone, let alone the one that actually came with and could accept the stock.

15 years since I first played the game, and 12 years since I watch Leon: The Professional. And only this day that I realize the connection between Leon and his gun's name.
I read about the reference a few months back and being a huge Resident Evil fan and Léon: The Professional being on my favorite movies ever made, it also blew my mind. 🥛

The Silver Ghost will always be my favorite handgun of Leon's, but I can't deny that he and this VP-70 have been through much more together.

I remember getting the Matilda on Re4 and thinking "this is so powerful", then I figured out you could get a giant revolver with unlimited ammo after getting full 5 stars on mercenaries with everyone on every map

Silver Ghost is that first handgun you have in RE4. That's Silver Ghost but the game only says it's just 'handgun'.
It was made by Joseph Kendo, Robert Kendo's older brother.
A day before RE4, Leon headed to Kendo's shop in such a foggy day, and walked in the shop without the sound of footsteps. Like a ghost appeared from the silver mist.
I forgot which one decided to name it Silver Ghost but I think it was Joseph if I remember correctly.
How Leon got the Silver Ghost still remains to wonder. But needless to say, somehow Wesker got one too, with a silencer to it.

Isn't this "Matilda" from Leon: The Professional. Cause obviously it's a subtle reference to that fantastic movie starring a young Natalie Portman and a middle aged Jean Reno. I love that movie.

In leon: the professional his main pistol was the beretta 92, which is the same gun that everyone else in s.t.a.r.s uses. I actually have the same compensator leon has on my own 92, and i named it mathilda =) (how her name is spelled in ths novie)

You probably already know this, but that's also why it goes from Normal to "Professional" difficulty in re4.
Fun fact to know and share...maybe not. My mother worked in a plastic factory, that made molds and recycled plastics. Our biggest recourse was CDs, and DVDs. I saw so many copies of Leon: the professional. The DVD showed his face, and glasses. I think he was driving. I could very well be wrong. But it wasn't a bad thing persay. The reason why so many DVDs wound up with us, was simply due to defects. Everyone wanted to see that movie persay. but there was QC back in the day. I'm not sure how that sort of thing is handled now though.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?! Okay, you posted this two years ago and you may not respond. If you do, congrats for surviving Covid and the war. I am 31. I played re 4 when it first came out, back when it was, "EXCLUSIVE TO GAMECUBE, YAY!" I played it again on the PS2, with the worst video ratio and res. Oh and locked cutscenes that couldn't show a uniform or suit. I played it again on PC, couldn't finish it. The controls were too bad. Then 360, loved it. Then the HD edition on PC. AND THEN the HD graphical mod by Albert Wesker. AND THEN in V fucking R. My favorite version of RE4, truly. Say what you will about the Oculus Meta Face Thing RE4 in VR was amazing. But in...oh my god I'm old, but in eighteen years, I never connected the dots with Professional mode, and Leon the Professional.

In a way, the Wing Shooter looks similar to a Walther P5, but in polymer and striker fired. The ejection port is to the left like a P5, similar silhouette, flush and slanted muzzle.

Ah, the VP70 one of the coolest pistols from H&K, though the trigger is bleugh. Thanks for showing this
Wolff Gunsprings makes a lighter trigger spring. It doesn't do anything for the long travel before the trigger breaks, but at least it puts up less of a fight as you pull it back.
Some more trivia about the H&K VP70:
- Unlike most semi-automatic pistols, the VP70's slide does not lock back upon firing the last round. The RE2 Remake gets this quirk correct, while the original erroneously depicts the slide locking back when reloading.
- The Matilda in RE2 Remake can equip an extended magazine and compensator. This is contrary to real life: H&K never made extended magazines or compensators for the VP70.
- Leon using a VP70 was probably inspired by the movie Aliens, where the Colonial Marines had the VP70 as their sidearm.
Oh thanks for this, I though the slide not locking back was an oversight since this gun did it in the other games. Bothers me alot less now.
One very important factor to note is that the VP70 is notorious for having a very horrible trigger. The pull is way too heavy and inconsistent to be a realistic option for a self defense tool. The gun looks cool but that's all it really had going for it.
@@codybaker9554 Right. The VP70 has an estimated trigger pull of more than 10 pounds. A lot longer than the double action trigger pull of a DA revolver. "Staple gun" is indeed a fitting description for it.
I wonder how Leon even got a hold of a VP-70, especially the military version which is meant to be rarer than the civilian version.

Just so you know, this video is being recommended like crazy to those watching resident evil 3 videos. That's how I got here, and boy am i glad it brought me here.
Another thing worth mentioning is that Leon's starting handgun in Resident Evil 4, while based on several different designs, does bear a striking resemblance to the Heckler & Koch USP. While not the VP70, I think it's a cool bit of continuity for them to stick with the same brand even while using different models.

I'm a big fan of what I call "legacy objects". Things that aren't by themselves super special, but are carried by a character or multiple characters through further adventures. I really love that they established that the knife Leon uses in the remake is the same one that Marvin gives him. It gives it so much more weight as an object.
I really liked to think, even if its in a non canonical fashion, that Leon kept his VP 70' after Raccoon City. Even if he uses the SG or the Sentinel Nine more as his "main" handgun afterwards, I like to think the VP is still in his possession somewhere, or even as a backup small handgun. I especially love the idea that by RE6 he just has two of them up his sleeves.
Even as a rookie cop, having a weapon as unusual (for the time) as a VP70 I like to think gives away Leon's potential, as something "bigger" than just another cop.
Seems still canon that he uses it in the original Operation Javier
Even in the orginal version of re2, this helped alot with its stock and infinite ammo.

This channel deserve 275k subs not 2.75k, such an underrated channel.
Fun fact: one of the problems of the vp70 is that it has a lower muzzle velocity compared to other 9mm pistols of that size. This is because the rifling of the barrel is cut deep enough to let gas escape around the bullet.
More of a story would be how each specific upgrade ended up in random places across the precinct

I actually think that Characters having a unique sidearm is a cool concept. IN EVERY RESIDENT EVIL Your character will always have a pistol at their side. When you run out of AR ammo time to use the Trusty sidearm. That's one thing ill prise RE6 for having each character get a unique weapon.

Great video Kendo, I'm surprised you left out a shot of the VP70's most iconic use besides RE2. In 1986's ALIENS Lt. Gorman empties one at point blank into a Xenomorph's head, but to no effect. Gorman and other marines are seen holding this gun throughout the film. One of the many influences that ALIENS had on RE2. Also seen in 1989's Renegades, used by Buster McHenry.
in the RE2 book from back in the day the author just does with VP-70 and just gave leon the Desert Eagle right off the bat as a gift from his dad and uncle as a present for graduating the police academy.

These videos are nothing short of amazing, from beginning to end, as I am once again thoroughly impressed by the sheer amount of dedication and detail found in this newest video. The same can certainly be said of the others on this channel as well. Every time I watch them, which is something I find watching multiple times during my stay on your channel by the way, I leave learning so much about not only my favorite series but the iconic weapons from it &/or inspired from it too. The amount of knowledge contained within them is like a small history lesson for both the series and gun history, making me drawn even closer to its dark atmospheric world, I have come to love since way back in 1996. I’m beyond PROUD of the owners of this channel, always an elegantly written and recorded voice, along with more than enough footage to go with what is being conveyed to any Survivor who comes across this channel. There is a very brief scene in RE Degeneration that recaps the events of RE2, and Leon uses the VP70 in that scene. That's the first and last time we saw it in a movie as of now.
