Sage this one is calling your name, no joke. The geo reminded me of exactly the kind of bikes you like. I need to try that Ohlins build since it sounds more my speed!
I recently bought a S6 Stumpy Evo mullet. Stuck a Vorsprung Smashpot in the fork and it's even better. About to install a set of Roval Traverse SL Carbon wheels. Love the bike, first bike that truly fits me (I'm 6'5"). Only thing left to do is get a custom tune on the shock
@tallpaull9367 as a fellow S6 stumpy rider, I'll have to look into that! I have the roval carbon wheels on mine cause the s works comes with it, and it truly rips!
Great review, I’m looking at a possible new bike next year, currently riding a SC Hightower v2 and this build and color suites me. 😎 I’ve already owned 2 Stumpjumpers (2004 & 2018) and 2 Hightowers (v1 & v2) and the only other bike on my radar would be the new Ibis Rilpley. Crazy how much that area you ride looks like here in Denmark 🇩🇰 (I’m from California)… even the high humidity sounds like DK 😅 Again, very nice review. 🤘
The green frame looks so good. I wish I could have gotten that one but I would have had to wait until October and they had the gunmetal grey colour in stock in my size so I went for that. It's a bit more understated so I like that but man, the green looks awesome and I would have gotten that if I could've.
Dang. Looks like I missed the best part of the ride when I lost you guys on the turn. Coming from XC style bikes, I really felt the size of this bike. That said, I was amazed at how well it climbed. With the heat and humidity, I found myself slowing down more on the descents than the climbs as the ride went on. Open it up though and she goes. And those brakes…wow.
@JimLodico hah Jim, you definitely would have enjoyed Garrett's pass, that trail rips so hard. But yeah I can echo everything you said there, a very solid trail bike🤙🏽great riding with you, bud.
@@splooshmtb I need to go back and hit Garrett's. I'm sure I've ridden it before, I just don't know the trail names. Look forward to seeing you out there next time.
Been on Stumpy's and Enduros for 20+ years. I bought a Rocky Mountain Instinct C30 this Spring bc it was dirt cheap, and I have swappable upgrades from my most recent Stumpy. So far, the Rocky is a better bike than any Spesh I have owned. It is also dead quiet and has Ride9 w/ too many geo adjustments for me. I ride it in a neutral setting bc I live rolling terrain. Great vid. Nice bike, but $$$$.
@petedog9581 that's good to know, I haven't been on a RM yet but their new lineup looks great! Yeah these bikes are definitely getting up there in price
So cool to hear your opinion as an EVO owner and someone who's ridden so many other trail bikes. Really interesting bike and great review! Sounds like a great all-around trail bike! Digging that green color too! Hoping to get a chance to ride one myself. Do you like the "Transmission" derailleur?
@TheRideAbides thanks Dan! I'm not gonna lie, the transmission was really nice, and adding in the knowledge that it won't really break is awesome. But the shifting didn't feel much better than a standard GX. Under load you still got a big clunk, however, we're told that's not gonna damage it!
Great video man! I really need to buy a 3rd bike. This one looks like it rides super smooth! I haven't been on a bike yet that has the wireless shifting. I broke my Derailleur a few weeks ago on my Hightower Honey Badger. This one is over $6K! Whoa!
Thanks for this. I’m still looking for a quiver killer but I moved and now over biked a bit with my Evo. Wondering if this is the answer really looking back at the epic evo 8, this bike and the previous regular stumpy pro T type. Just wondering how the regular stumpy does vs your trail examples. I stand to save some real money with the old style. I would end up building up a stumpy 15 with most of the components from the Evo to also save money. I just don’t know what to do!
@kentao4 it definitely would be a quiver killer! I previously owned a Hightower and loved that bike- this bike feels a lot like that. In my opinion, I like the switchblade a little bit more than both of those because it climbs better and descends pretty much just as well. However Pivot prices are... not ideal. I'd recommend you test ride one of these, I think you'll like it.
@@splooshmtb problem is it’s hard to test ride all back to back. I’m on my 3rd mtb since 2019 and I haven’t been totally happy with any in the vein of being a quiver killer. I’m also 6 ft 2 and nobody ever has all 3 in s5 and s4 in stock. Tired of guessing with such an expensive purchase. I’m in the Philly area.
@kentao4 I totally get it man, at our height it's hard to find demo bikes. If you're able to hold it down for a bit longer and be patient, follow up with your local specialized dealers and see when they can get in a demo for these 15s. Best of luck dude🤘🏽. For what it's worth, I love my Evo!
@@splooshmtbI love mine too but I can’t justify multiple mtbs. I need one that’s good for everything. The Evo is a bit cumbersome for what I do most of the time.
@@kentao4 Evo can be a lot for sure, I ride so much park and big tech, along with my chill flowy stuff, that it makes good sense for me, but I totally get it, it's a hog😂
@splooshmtb Could you ask your LBS if they think the Genie shock would fit a SJ EVO? I bought my S-works SJ EVO frame and built it up a few years ago and while I wouldn’t get the new model over what I have, it sure would be rad to try out that new shock technology. For now, I’m going to throw a Float X2 on it tonight and give that a go.
@matthewmcnutt6052 that's actually a really good question that I'm curious about to. I'm currently running an X2 as well, and they're kind of notorious for blowing so that could be a good backup option. I'll check in with them and update here when I hear something!
How did you set up the shock comparatively to your evo? Calculator says I should have same PSI in 15 as I had in my evo, but I get nowhere near enough sag, I’m running it 25/30 psi lower than my evo
@gazmo147 yep so I went factory recommendations as well, definitely felt stiffer for me as well. Depending on your riding you can probably drop some pressure.
@@splooshmtb im sure the first 3:30 took a long time, especially with putting together all that b-roll with the voice over n stuff. I been liking your video structures a lot! Keep up the grind my guy
I ride rough desert terrain and weigh 215 lbs geared up. I am doing a build right now and need to make a choice between a 150 or 160 fork. I am going to use this bike for my everything bike. Thoughts?
@Nomad-MTB personal preference may come into play more here but I'd go 160. 10mm won't make you any slower on climbs but may bail you out a bit more on chunk.
@Fastblack83 the 15 is going to be a better climber. X01 on the Evo really isn't THAT big of a performance upgrade, specially when being compared to transmission. That being said, saving $2500 for a bike that is going to only lose marginal gains sounds really good to me.
@@splooshmtb Thanks! I'm in Arizona, and having a tough time deciding! I ride in the summer here, and sadly, nobody demos here, so I can't get on much until october or so. I got on a switchblade, and enjoyed that, but I think I prefer longer chainstays on the stumpjumper to help keep the front end down on steep seated climbs.
Sorry for some low light GoPro footage on the ride, the elements were not very kind to us that day! 😮💨
