Yes they're getting better Martin. Had very few toy cars, but had a model farm, so tractors and implements. Gave them to my grandsons, who I saw for the first time week last Saturday.
great work again Martin, looking forward to the next one, ive got a box full of them little cars with scraps etc sitting in my loft, in an old tool box, must try and dig them out soon.
Nice job, the casting and how it goes together makes me wonder if they just modified the similar 1300 Deluxe casting from a few years earlier a little bit to make these.
Martin I do believe you’re getting the hang of it now...your best so far...surely you’ve now mastered these restorations...how can you improve on this?
Well done. I think the only change I would of made is to chrome the headlights. That's just me, I found nothing wrong with what you did. Again you did a restore to original.
Oi oi South London in the house lol hello fella great job well done my son .I've got over 300 vangard models now so had to stop the miss wasn't to happy with em lol boys and there toys even if we r over 50 lol
Haha, I have a few vanguard. I do like them as they are well detailed. I do have a damaged Dolomite Sprint Vangard I have to repair so that will be up soon.
Hi iv got a vectra cdti iv had a blown crankshaft oil seal and a camshaft oil seal and I'm still leaking oil could this be the rocker cover gasket as iv found oil on the cam side
How do you rivet the base back on? Everyone else seems to tap and put a screw in. Yours looks much better. I guess you cant get it apart again easy? Looks brilliant anyway mate.
another classic restored ! lol. ive still got the metalic red version of this, which somehow has stayed in pretty good nik for around 50 years old ???.............as your into printing things, any chance of a video on printing the repro boxes ? loads of templates on the net............might make an interesting video ? would be good to have mine boxed up again rather than banging about in a quality street tin ! :)
I believe the large wire wheel with the faster speed heats the metal too much causing distortion of the soft metal. May I suggest a Dremel type tool with a small wire wheel so you can vary the speed therefore reducing the amount of heat to the metal.
Yes, I have used the Dremmel in previous restorations but the wire wheels I have are no good and spit the wire out everywhere. I need some new mini wire wheels.
Nice job, I think your wire wheel has eroded the writing on the base rather than the laquer and as mentioned the whte could be a bit creamer (could just be my monitor). Look forward to your next one
Marin, do you ever get crazy and try to do the door lines and such with a little darker color to offer a more detailed refurbish with shadow lines? I can see how you could get real creative and make them look more real.
Just think m8, that model is nearly as old as you and me hehe I was one and a half when that came out O.o S'funny is that as a kid I always got Matchbox cars but my brother he always had Corgi and Dinky in the small cars, he got the Enterprise Corgi or Dinky can't remember who made that and I got Space 1999 Eagles and the SHADO and interceptors from UFO and had enormous fun with me brother piloting the Enterprise fighting against my eagles and interceptors :)
I'm giving caustic soda a bash on mine, making sure its not too strong and useful cos me daughter blocks the bath drain up constantly with her moulting of hair all over the place so the left over can go down the plughole killing two birds with one wise saying :P
Acrylic paint thinner? You actually bought a tiny bottle of water? Been airbrushing for decades, use water right from the kitchen faucet and I have very hard water. Never any problems. If you would like I can fill up a few bottles, slap a fancy label on it and sell you some.
for the sake of your lungs, please use a half-mask respirator when working with lacquer paints. even in well ventilated areas the fumes and vapor can cause serious damage, a booth with an extraction fan is also recommended. stay safe lacquer is good stuff but not good enough to risk melting your lungs from the inside!
Nice job but how many more restos are we going to see , you do great work but be creative it's yours this is like seeing a restored 57 chevy at a car show then a few feet away seeing another one exactly the same right down to the interior.
Great job matey. If you want to know what the decal was on the front that someone mentioned in your comments, it's a Monte Carlo rally plate decal, but on the later models of this it was omitted so its upto you if you replace it. ;-)
@@retrorestore ive found the more you pay the better they stay together, but all pretty much useless in their effectiveness. I Think your use of a bench grinder with brass coated wire wheels far better and more economic
My bug which was a yellow bug, portrayed Bundy's in "Behind the Mask". The bug was yellow which qualified the '72 beetle to play the part according to casting directors. It was filmed in Oregon and the bug scene taken in St. Helens. Great resto Martin.
I’ve just found a couple,of theses in lovely condition doing my dads house clearance, thanks for the information
Yes they're getting better Martin. Had very few toy cars, but had a model farm, so tractors and implements. Gave them to my grandsons, who I saw for the first time week last Saturday.
Yes, I saw your Facebook post Malc, Happy times.
HAD ONE OF THESE AND LOVED IT.PROBABLY BECAUSE MY PARENTS HAD A REAL VW BEETLE 1300 AT THE TIME.ANYWAY A GREAT MODEL AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Another classic done! after the Mini and the Beetle, you just need a Citroen 2CV to complete my list of dream cars. Great job!
Excellent resto on the bug ,
Had to smile when you added the cleaning of the casting before painting.
All the best.
Beautiful Restoration
great work again Martin, looking forward to the next one, ive got a box full of them little cars with scraps etc sitting in my loft, in an old tool box, must try and dig them out soon.
Holy Herbie's, it looks very nice. You do good by taking your time, and concentrating on what you're doing.
Great Restoration Martin. I like these voice over videos you do.
Thanks Dave
I believe the term is resto-mod. Great restoration!
Martin i thank they are getting better the more you are doing.Good job
Great job again Martin, Great end result as usual. You are definitely getting better the more you do mate.
Cheers, Jeff.
Yes, practice is helping Jeff
Turned out great mate
I have this exact model, great work.
Martin the miracle worker lol you'll need to get yourself a nice display cabinet soon
Haha, yes, they are all just sitting on my computer at the minute lol
Nice job, the casting and how it goes together makes me wonder if they just modified the similar 1300 Deluxe casting from a few years earlier a little bit to make these.
Yes I agree, they probably did.
I'm loving these Martin
Cheers Aaron
GREAT MODEL.HAD ONE OF THESE IN 1981.ALWAYS LIKED VW MODELS AS PARENTS HAD REAL VW 1300 BEETLE AND THEN A VW GOLF MK 1.
KEEP RESTORING THOSE MODELS.MY MUM AND NAN BOTH WORKED AT LESNEY FACTORIES IN ENGLAND.
very nice job
nice job Martin, your definitely getting better.
A very fine job sir.
Martin I do believe you’re getting the hang of it now...your best so far...surely you’ve now mastered these restorations...how can you improve on this?
Cheers Bri, yes, getting better I think too.
Looks very nice Martin, great video. Steve.

Cheers Chris, I've never owned one of these though.
Great Restoration!
Another top job Martin, how comes we didnt see the detailing or reassembly buddy, love seeing that, hope your well, keep em coming all the best - Mark
I won't bother showing all the steps in every vid Mark as they will get samey bud.
@@retrorestore ahh ok yea i get that, cheers Martin
love to see this car like new again, nice job. Greetings from the Netherlands
That front bumper looks like it has a backing for a Monte Carlo plate. Great resto
Just googled it and it does 😊
Nice one, I didn't know that Craig. Well spotted
Beautiful Beautiful Restoration VW beetle 1500👏👏👏👏👏👏
Another great job
I'm doing one of these right now :)

Hard to say without seeing it Tony.
It's a VW I love it nice job martin👍😊
Cheers Col
Great vid Martin 👍
Cheers Jamie
I think I might start restoring these little cars but I’ve not got the kit so probably use car body spray cans ?
Really nice restoration. I think the white could be a bit more on the cream side by adding a bit of yellow. But that's just me . Great job over all 👍
SPOT ON BUDDY!!👍👍
Nice job.
Great job, but what did you do to restore the tires? I can tell you did more than just clean them.
Just soap and water this time Mike
Oh my god its beautiful
puka job Martin. which is the norm buddy thanks you....
Haha, cheers Paul
very nice martin keep them comming
Cheers Baz
How do you rivet the base back on? Everyone else seems to tap and put a screw in. Yours looks much better. I guess you cant get it apart again easy? Looks brilliant anyway mate.
I superglue the rivet in and it looks original so if you want to remove it, you just drill it out again.

oh thats a shame ! another great idea bites the dust ! lol @@retrorestore
Cracking job
Nice work Martin! I just custom restored one of these myself and you will see it on my channel in a week or so.
Nice one, look forward to it.
Another great job martin you need to restore a old toy garage to display your cars on
in an old video you said you got a mower from an auction, what type of auction did you get it from, looking for one and cant find anything in the uk
Go on Facebook marketplace, there's always plenty on there.
@@retrorestore Yeah ok thanks, it seems whenever i look for a mower theres non about lol
Parabéns! Bela restauração!!!
This one makes me think of Herbie. All you need is the blue and red racing stripe and some "53" decals.
Great job again Murt....don't ask for much only keep the vids coming🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

One word I unknowingly use too often is apparently.
Apparently your's is probably. 😁 Nice restoration.
As you can see mine is apparently probably
Haha nice one.
Nice to see you have the Bug
Haha, i've had enough bugs over the last few months William lol
retrorestore hopefully you will get rid of them soon and keep exercising your shoulder keep it moving
Wow verry good job the result is verry nice 👍
Peace ✌️
Where are you from Martin?
From SW London living in Lincolnshire.
@@retrorestore Cool I'm an Essex boy and thought you might be around my way
nice work ,think the commentary went well also
Yes, I did a voice over instead.
I had the VW Beetle 1500 GT
I've got one Bri lol
Great Job Martin xD
Good job. The tow hook is nonsence, as you know. My first car was a Beetle once and I could not find a tow hook anywhere …. LOL.
kool , thanx

Tidy, I wish the big motors where so easy to restore 😄

Apparently, that turns it into a custom resto and the purists need to hear that in the resto and see it in the title lol
brilliant!
it used to have one of those Monte Carlo sticker on the front of it
Loved this. Martin is right, don't polish model cars. If you want more shine later on, wax it.

All going up in price too Ian, they are going for silly money on Ebay. Not the place to buy.
I love it
There should be a Monte Carlo rally decal on the front.
I'll look out for that and fit it.
Acrylic paint thinner? You actually bought a tiny bottle of water? Been airbrushing for decades, use water right from the kitchen faucet and I have very hard water. Never any problems. If you would like I can fill up a few bottles, slap a fancy label on it and sell you some.
These are solvent acrylics not waterbased bud.

As you can see.......
Well a nice job although i dont beleive its a complete restore as you missed the decal thatt is on the front plate
I'll have to check on that. Mine didn't have one. Cheers
