Nice job,,, I restored one of these and the Challenger and sprayed with VW Mars Red2 which I got from Halfords,,came out great,,,really enjoy your vid's,,,have a great week,,
excellent job as usual martin, brought to mind the tv series butterflies the two sons had a red mini with a union jack painted on the roof down the sides and front and back looked amazing for its time ...all the best.........................dougie
Lovely Martin. This series is a great addition to your already impressive repertoire of skills 😁 Brings me back to my youth ..... next thing you’ll be restoring is the old MK1 Raleigh Chopper !!!
Well done Martin fantastic job I've bought some matchbox cars over the weekend at a car boot sale I notice quite a few are doing these restorations on UA-cam now and you've all inspired me to have ago myself nothing to fancy it'll just be a rattle can spray job and yes you did mask that roof on the mini spot on thanks for the video and you're inspiration 😀👍
Very nice work. It's good to see Superfasts are starting to make an appearance in restoration videos. They are from my era, and worth restoring. The finish on the base came up really well: like new. I'm going to have to try it. Would a coat of clear stop it from tarnishing again?
I've got a couple of those in my childhood collection. Thankfully mine are only in a 'slightly played with' condition. Looking nice and a good effort, I certainly wouldn't have the patience.
Great job .... I've started doing a similar mini but going to try to paint the interior as I feel it's always abit bright. Also another you guy on you tube has a paint he uses for black tops that looks like vinyl ... Love the extra details as well and using a rivet instead of a screw ... great stuff
Hi there, have you tried wiping the cleaned body with a little Prepsol before painting? It removes grease and contaminates. I would think it should work ok but have not yet started on restoring models.
I kind of think the "hairs" that you were referring to, might just happen to be carpet fibers. Good job on that paint, and the roof really sets It off.
I used to own 2 minis. This mini casting is so badly crafted! The angle of roof pilars is so wrong! Correct we if i'm wrong. Despite this issue your work is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Nice video. Advice, use latex gloves after you have sprayed. This will stop fingerprints on the paint which damage it before its cured and also stops prints on the inside of the windows. 👍
Well done! Thanks for the video. I've done a couple of "restos?" Have a look on my channel . One question, I've used Autosol and got the scratches out but struggle to remove the bloom created by the Autosol!! I know you use higher and higher grit but how did you do on this mini?
Any abrasive will leave blooming in plastic but that's why you need either a coat of clear lacquer or the pledge floor shine stuff you see others use. If you have the bloom, wet the glass with water and see if it goes clear. If it does, that's how it would look once lacquered.
Hi great video as usual would just like to let you know my mum work for Lesley or Matchbox. Factory years ago I had hundreds of them like every other kid the car's got a hard life with me and my friends. I'm not saying my mum nicked them but her bra size was bigger when she was leaving work then when she started lol I think she used to work at Hackney I'm not sure about that anyway great channel keep them coming
whats the point of having tape if you just drill past it?. Unfortunately you did and blew out the post but i guess you won't know once it's all together.
The tape is a guide we all make mistakes bud but don't really need telling but thanks for your comment. Have a go yourself and lets see you do it in front of thousands of people. I state this is a learning curve but why do people feel they have to pick up on faults and post a comment when we can all see what's happening in the video.
Silicon spray on the body will cause the problem you had at the first coat I learnt that when I was a apprentice machenic in a panel beating shop, got into trouble because of it, nice work
They got air tools, air accessories and drill bit sets in Lidl's at the mo plus belt sander belts with 6 various in the pack for the same price some ppl out there charging for just one belt lol I bought a large quantity of chinesium wire wheels for drill a good while back off fleabay and surprisingly they are holding up quite well against some stiff work. When I bought the Parkside cordless dremel set, I also chucked in a couple dremel accessory packs and still yet have to open the accessory packs as the Parkside stuff is pretty solid except the thin cutting discs which ping off in shards if you cough at it :S I got a set of diamond whizz wheels so never use the soppy things in the set lol I'm waiting til they get the Bauer paint stripper back in and stocking up, they also have in at the mo Bauer clear and coloured lacquers in aerosols which I grabbed a few of in clear as clear lacquer is like a birds shoes... never have enough clear lacquer eh?
The coloured lacquer is great for real cars, I wire brushed and the painted straight to brushed metal on my rear axle beam, and it came up like almost new, on a 1991 VW Polo GT, that was last year and it still looks as good today, really good, I tried it on a matchbox model though and it seemed a bit thick, not terribly thick, but it hid some of the details on the casting, after it dried. It doesn't look awful, but I think I'll try my airbrush next time 👍
wow - quality paint job, that looked brilliantly smooth, nicely done sir!
Thank you very much!
Nice work! Great paint job, love to see some different rims.
Nice job Martin and another little matchbox saved
Cheers John.
A big improvement. And considering it's only your third restoration, a very impressive result. The more you do, the better you will get!
Good stuff, nice to see you learning new skills Martin!
Thanks Nige
Nice job,,, I restored one of these and the Challenger and sprayed with VW Mars Red2 which I got from Halfords,,came out great,,,really enjoy your vid's,,,have a great week,,

excellent job as usual martin, brought to mind the tv series butterflies the two sons had a red mini with a union jack painted on the roof down the sides and front and back looked amazing for its time ...all the best.........................dougie
Haha, yes I remember it too Doug.
That was my fastest hot wheel as a kid, it had amazing top end, probably because it's tail heavy. Nice restoration on the mini.
But bro its matchbox

Nice job, I had several cases of match box cars 50 years ago, don’t know whatever became of them. But after moving so many times, who knows.
Wow, Nice one Jim. Very collectable now the older ones.
love this one as a kid.
i still have mine
The sills always go on the minis 😂
Not on this one lol
Hi Martin
What paint did you use for the silver chrome headlights , looks very cool
Cheers for another great video
It is one of those chrome 1.5mm tip pens Dave.
Hi there, have you tried wiping the cleaned body with a little Prepsol before painting? It removes grease and contaminates. I would think it should work ok but have not yet started on restoring models.
I normally wipe down with panel wipe but must have forgot this time.

Nice job
Lighter fluid removes stickers easily.
You still have this model?

love all you vids grt work m8

You should try dipping the glass in self levelling floor polish !

retrorestore thanks for the reply. I was aware of the "pledge" and the clear lacquer route. I'll keep on trying! :-)
Between coats of paint cover the body with a bowl or dish of sorts. To minimise dust!
GWAN!👌
Oh really wanted a Mr bean mini lol
That's a great idea
Thay are awesome to drive got one myself with a 1275 mg metro engine
That car hasn't been taxed since 1991

How can someone dislike a 25 minute video 4 minutes after going live? Fake disliker i think
Yes, Trolls I think
@@opticaltrace4382 that was nearly 7 minutes in not within the first 4 minutes
fine job son ! i had one of these, tho was a darker metallic red ? wonder what ever happened to it ??? :)
Same with me. I don't remember where all mine went either.
A bit of a bummer with the paint reaction but it turned out great in the end. It looked like Project Binky in the white primer.
Haha, yes but this was done quicker lol
1969 Italian job love it Martin You only supposed to blow The bloody doors off lol 😂 👍
I have 2 of those exact car. I have number 3 and some how another 3

Hola! Para colores más VIVOS, poner blanco antes del rojo. Resaltará más el COLOR. Saludos y excelente canal. 😀
gracias por tu comentario
I have two of these
I had this one, and I am sure it was metallic red. It’s a bit bigger in scale than the other models in the range.
Silicon spray on the body will cause the problem you had at the first coat I learnt that when I was a apprentice machenic in a panel beating shop, got into trouble because of it, nice work
Prepsol

Yes I was in there the other day Ian ans saw all that stuff. I picked up loads but put it all back as I didn't really need anything.

If you use those disposal gloves you will be able to handle it while applying the paint stripper
Yes I know bud.
Not Bad at All, but it would be great when you could Do the Base and Stickers. But an enjoyable restoration.
whoops looks like you lunched the post while drilling.
Looks good but should have painted the interior to finish it off.
Only Problem with the big wire Wheel is that the print in the base gets polished a bit off
Yes, it was only a test
@@retrorestore Yes a try was worth it
