@@theherrdark4834 Well... VW DID actually make a flat 4 diesel, for testing, that did not go well. It was resurrected several times and never proved to be practical. This, however, is not a diesel, as stated
I'm glad to see this video. Back in the mid 70s my spouse became a salesperson for a Southern California company that made these. At that time it was called a "Bugaroo." I'm not sure if it was the same company as this one or if the name was changed along the way. At any rate, we were asked to take one to an RV Show in Southern Oregon so we packed up and drove approximately 700 miles up I-5 then back after the show. While people were as excited then as some are in these comments there were so many drawbacks the spouse went to work for another RV company after our return. I'll try to list them here. Structurally, they can't handle a strong crosswind. At one point we were on 2 wheels in a crosswind until we pulled over under an overpass to wait for the wind to die down. The windshield wipers were one speed, slow, and couldn't handle a heavy rain so we had to slow our speed dramatically. Interior-wise, while cute, it's not practical for real or off the grid camping. There's no toilet or shower so you need to be near amenities or get so far out you're bathing in a lake or stream and digging your own facilities. There was no water heater so we had to heat water on the stove to wash dishes but we couldn't stand up to wash dishes or cook even with the table removed. The one we had had a 2 burner stove and tiny sink with a closet on one side and a small fridge on the other side. You couldn't open either one if you were sitting at the dinette. The roof vent had no fan and the windows on the doors didn't capture any breeze except a crosswind. As a couple, we were 5'1" 115 lbs and 6'2" 230 lbs. Neither one of us could change clothes inside even with the table removed and the larger half of us couldn't stretch out on the bed. Lastly, there were no cupboards or drawers for pots, pans, dishes, utensils or canned or boxed goods so you're limited to what can fit on the dinette seats, in the trunk or in the sink while traveling. Just my experience but I think the above issues are why they didn't sell many and the company went out of business. Edit to add, it couldn't climb a mountain pass very well either, we were in the far right lane chugging up the mountain with the 18 wheelers.
We saw this at Bruce's Market yesterday and fell in love with it ... as did at least a half-dozen others who pulled out their cell phones and snapped it. You made a lot of people smile. Cheers!
You are welcome Mike. I never thought my tiny 1970s Ford Pinto would make you happy. But, I'm glad you got a kick out of it. I hadn't even washed it and the inside had my kids vomit on the back seat. But, thanks.
I have an old magazine on this but, tucked away somewhere, always wanted to make one, I see a young chap on UA-cam with someone's take on a modern but.
Out of all the campers I've seen. It may not be the biggest but its by far the most amazing one I've seen. Would love to take this on a camp. Awesome little camper.
Beautiful car. Like a work of art! Good people! I wish you well-being and good luck ! Thank you for showing me your camper! Прекрасная машина. Как произведение искусства! Отличные люди! Желаю благополучия и удачи ! Спасибо, что показали свой автодом!
As a native Californian, I cannot believe they would not have added wipers...I've been in storms where the water sheeted down the windshield it was so strong. Love this sweetie Bugger
I got a '68 VW bug. Had it for over 15 years now in Ca. The wipers didnt work when I bought it so I just removed them. I've never needed them. As long as I have a bottle of Rain-X ™ with me. That stuff is awsome. Water hits it and beads up and off. The kicker is that the harder it rains, the easier it is to see. The only time its hard to see is in drizzle.
69 but was a 1500 gassed only so is engine swapped if 1600 when built in seventies since the1600 not available until 71 model year don't recall diesels being sent to the U.S. Then and would also have been a 1500 at 40up not 60 then. I was in high school then and first car was a 65 bug with a 1200 in it which I bought for $150 and I rebuilt engine and trans to get it running again since those air cooled engines did not last needing to be stomped to the floor to get going since the engine was a real weezer but 25 mpg on highway so stingy on gas. Happy I. Had it during gas crisis of 73 and was super happy about owning that car then.
Reminds me of the old Winnebago dealership in Kennewick WA. The "Buggebago" used to sit stop a sign becoming people in. Now it sits in back of the lot which is a boat+ RV repair place.
Very nice super bugger. A friend of mine had one and it was always a hit at the car show. I don’t believe the graphic on the engine is correct however. The engine in a 69 vw bug would have had a 1500cc 53 horse power gasoline engine not a Diesel engine.
My dad bought me a vw van to camp out, in the back yard. He ran an extention cord out to the van so I'd have power for my stereo. I dressed it up with a beautiful light blue paneling. I had an American flag in the back window. It was cozy.
I love the car, the design is great and the ambition of the maker is inspiring. Unfortunately, a Bugger in England means someone who engages in, well you can Google it.
Amazing .. and VW last long especially those years .. and you’ll be surprise how many people still know how to fix them even the new generation are learning
In my opinion its priceless. 🙂
What do you mean? 😏😏
🤪

Imagine how crazy it would be if they came out with something like this today with a modern car
They need to a 4 cylinder too ! With a Diesel Engine.
There is someone with a 2006 VW Beetle with a camper conversion. ua-cam.com/video/takVcGyy1xs/v-deo.html
Heaven forbid they give us affordable housing
I have owned many VW's and this is a gem. 😉👍
Same, I love this car

It's not a mobile home, it's a Motor Home.
But it is cute.
Oh my goodness, I would paint it like a ladybug!
Love the Super Bugger!!
Also, love seeing a fellow Triumph Spitfire owner!!!!

I love how he sizes his trunk space in bodies like I do.
I guess it's better than bodies in the trunk space
Doesn't everyone?
Thats gotta be ome of the most beautiful conversions ive ever seen

This put a smile on my face my Gee Gee had one of these bugs growing up oh the sweet memories ❤💚💜💙💛👍🏾
That's an adorable little RV conversion for a VW bug.
i lived in costs mesa when these were built . i walked by shop many times
Wow. I grew up in Costa Mesa. Where were these built? (Cross streets)
Bill: "You could fit a body in there"
Sandra: "You could fit camping gear in there"
That is simply an adorable Beetle Camper. :-)
Love this bug, I like to see a newfie living great. God bless ya
I need this in my life!!! I've never thought ide say this about anything! 😍

My Mom was from Newfound! She came to the States when she was 12. LOVE the Bugger!!
Absolutely incredible!
She is the sweetest RV that I’ve ever seen 😍
WOW ,this is super !!!
I want to have this one here in Germany.
Its so beautiful!
I remember seeing one in North Platte Nebraska back in the early 90's. It said lil' Bugger on it. Lol
Omg...I so wish I had this! Totally in love with the Super Bugger!😍
That is the cutest camper I have ever seen Love it
Not diesel.
Diesel sucks... Cost more than gas here in California and to many regulations for desiel
I was about to say the same thing. 1600cc is gas.
@JP Landscaping in my country it's the complete opposite
That is awesome. Love it .nice id buy one. If I could find one like it great job.
Wow! Its so cute, I have never seen one before. I love it. Thank you for sharing it here. From: Singapore. :)

I think the table with the stove adjacent is genius!
This exact one was in the shop that I work at today. Things super cool and roomier inside then you'd think.
I always had fascination with these. A Bus had a hard time moving, cannot imagine how slow this would be?!

It's so adorable and kute at the same time!
Ridiculous and awesome all in one my question is why do I love this thing lo

I love it ! I would use that every chance I got.
I remember seeing an article in, i think, Popular Mechanics about this or something similar. I think it even included the schematics to make your own.
Awesome, and great for crossing the usa in very hot climate.
