People are calling them weeds and say animals eat them. What they should realize is that we are animals ourselves.
For real.
LOL that's SO true
I'm no animal
Excellent. Now if I’m homeless and living on the streets I know what to eat
You can also eat a little bit of wood sorrel, sow Thistle, wild lettuce, catnip, and hollyhock leaf, hollyhock flowers.
😂
Haven't laughed in a while this genuinely made me 😂
If you're homeless on the streets, folks will throw all kinds of food at you - to trade for dope and booze.
Even if you do not waste unimportant expanses on things like vegetables. (I mean, they are costly here)
"Your Dandelions are banging" 🤣 @1:24
Definitely! They're really great for gut health, too! It's wild that humans have decided it's a weed. Hopefully that will change, soon!
Thats because for a very long time people have been conditioned to believe that if a plant isn't grass than it must be a weed and needs to go. When I learned the benefits of letting the dandelions grow it naturally transformed my yard in a positive way.
Use to eat them all the time as a child.
The government doesn't want us eating healthy food. They want us eating processed junk, so we get sick and dependent on Rx drugs. $$$ motive.
The health and pharmaceutical industry is who says it's a weed. They make money off sick people not healthy ones. And isn't it something that Roundup the weed killer causes cancer and this so called weed helps prevent it. This world is so backwards. The old ways are the best for a reason
dandelions have deep roots so they pull a lot of nutrients out. it collects in the roots, leaves and flowers. so when the leaves fall to the ground it decompose and let out the nutrients enriching the soil for the grass to grow. it by no means is a worthless weed.
When I was young we heard you could eat Dandelions, we had tons in my yard, so we ate them. Of course we had to act like we were poisoned first but ya know.😁
Lol🤣 i might try that.
When we were kids I had a friend who was convinced sloe berries were deadly nightshade, so I ate one and pretended to die. Even when I explained it was a joke he was still freaking trying to get an ambulance.
Why did I think eating random flowers in the backyard was a good idea when I was young
because it was
It's not. Some common garden flowers will kill you or worse. But I've been eating dandelion flowers for years so can't complain.
@@TheUberdude187 what’s worse than dying😩
@@TheUberdude187 how do you eat it? Can you eat the flower or the other part
@@cherryvoss2450 a long painful approach to death, I'd wager, or ending up making others die along with you by misinformation that they can eat it. One dude claimed a certain mushroom wasn't toxic, fed it to his family, and they all died horribly painful deaths.
Dandelion leaves salad is one of my favourite, served with a homemade dressing of olive oil, lemon, apple cider vinegar and honey, topped with walnuts, Medjool dates and goats cheese. I forage for wild foods and I add dandelion flowers and leaves, wild garlic and stinging nettles to my fish curry.
Sounds great!
Go on......Send me some!
I’ve literally just seen someone on You Tube make this in her kitchen, complete with Medjool dates.
IT'S. NOT. A. WEED.
It is a Herb by my book or is it just a wild and crazy pretty flower ? anyway is edible and very good for the Liver and other Organs it tones and Cleanses.
a weed is a plant in a place we dont want it...a tree can be a weed in some cases
It's contextual.
It is if roll them in paper and start smoking it
Fuck I cant smoke it but I can eat it
Real medicine grows outside and we cut and kill so much of it because society says it’s a messy look . Hope you all are well
The whole dandelion is food. Roots = tea leaves= salad flower= food/wine they are many recipes for this weed:)
YES! Really great properties for gut health, too
"Seek medical advice before eating them..." Like doctors in general know anything about nutrition.
I actually had a chat with my GP about nutrition and it was astonishing how little he knew.
I worked alongside a Gp who thought they were pointless.
They don't know anything about health, being healthy and nutrition. They are big pharma sale reps, who know to only keep a patient dependent on toxic meds, instead of trying to make them healthy and curing them. That's what a doctor used to do in the past, now they are licensed murderers and big pharma sale reps.
@@feroze2887 mhmm they all learn from the same book
All the medical schools that train our doctors-to-be are owned by the pharmaceuticals. They teach what pharmaceutical drugs should be given for which complaint/ illness. Gone, sadly, are the days when medical schools taught young doctors about health and nutrition. Fact: no-one ever died from a pharmaceutical drug deficiency, but plenty have died because of nutritional deficiencies.
Research Lugol’s Iodine; up until the 1930s, this was the standard treatment for everything from depression to arthritis (partly due to its stimulatory effect on the thyroid, which depends on sufficient iodine for optimum function). Then along came the pharmaceuticals’ first antibiotics, and iodine was demonised to facilitate dependence and demand for profit-making drugs.
Pretty much all natural medicine is demonised by allopathic (western) medicine. I once told my GP that doctors these days, because the syllabus taught in all med schools is set by pharmaceutical companies, are essentially drug reps. She sadly agreed.
- This was shortly after I’d reversed the raging osteoporosis I’d been left with after oestrogen breast cancer “treatments”. I used D3, Vit K2, silica, magnesium (too much calcium on its own makes bones brittle, - denser, but brittle, and there was enough extra calcium coming from the high dose D3, with the K2 sending it to bones and teeth, without taking an extra calcium supplement) and 2 different DEXAS done at 2 different hospitals showed the reversal clearly.
My GP looked at the scans and said, “You do know you’re not supposed to be able to reverse osteoporosis, don’t you? We’re taught at med school that you can’t do anything about it.”
She’d had me on AdCalD3 for the previous 5 years or so, which is a pharmaceutical drug with a nasty and ineffective D3 analog drug that does nothing positive in the body, and the osteoporosis had gone on getting worse and worse.
After starting the D3, K2 (etc.) regime I’d set myself, I had a DEXA scan 3 months later that showed the deterioration had apparently stopped. I continued with my D3 and K2 (etc.) and had another scan 6 months after that, then another a week later at a different hospital (I’d been accidentally booked into 2 different hospitals and didn’t see any reason to alert them to that fact; I was curious to see as many DEXA results as possible - usually, I’m restricted to one DEXA every 3 years.)
Those 2 scans showed that not only had the deterioration stopped, but I had by then one completely normal hip.
That was about 8 years ago. I still take D3, K2, silica, magnesium, etc., and despite being 13 years past the chemically-induced menopause (chemo) and now at the age when it seems medically expected that osteoporosis would be raging ever onward, my last few DEXAs have continued to show stability if not actual improvement.
She’s also seen me lower my HbA1C numbers (caused by unavoidable long-term steroids) via particular nutrients and herbal supplements, all based on research papers I find on PubMed; greatly reduce my dry eyes (chemo damage) by taking Lugol’s Iodine; fix gastritis and acid reflux with Fenugreek, and other various ailments fixed through nutritional therapy and natural medicine.
Her knee-jerk reaction to any ailment I present with is to suggest a drug, but she will at lest give me 3 month’s grace in which to test whichever natural medicine theory I’ve come up with, which is more than most allopathic doctors will do these days.
I’m about to go and fetch some dandelions from the garden, and we’ll have them at dinner tonight. Always good to find interesting re-discovered sources of healthy plants. Can’t wait to tell my GP about the beneficial effects!
2:42 the host micro expressions are hilarious! The long head nod like "ok your nuts and I'm trying not to laugh" and the eyebrow crinkle like "what kinda of earrings are you wearing" slow the video and you'll see it....
Thank you for the video, seriously. My grandfather used to make dandelion soup And I have friends that make dandelion wine. So much useful knowledge out there!
I really enjoyed watching this video. The presentation was smashing!
If someone has a problem with self sowing edibles, they're not a gardener.
If plants became self sowing there wouldn't be any gardeners.

So gardeners and plants are in competition with each other?
To all you ppl saying its not a weed. A weed is defined as a wild plant growing where it is not wanted and in competition with cultivated plants. Anything can be a weed if its unwanted.
A weed is a plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered!
@@peterbulloch4328 Yeah that's what I said 😉
I’ve picked them every spring for the past 40 years . I pressure can quarts of the greens before the flower bud opens. They are great in quiches, soups and on their own with butter, salt and a little vinegar. Yum. I also make dandelion lotion bars from the flowers, that’s great for dry chapped hands in the winter. I’ve had dandelion wine but am not a great fan of it so I’ve never made it.😊
Pregnant woman to doctor - "can I eat the Dandelions" 😂 (2:50)
LOL, *doctor quickly Googles response* 😂
The Victorians called them “Pissabeds!”
I’ve just made a litre of “dandelion honey” (it’s more like golden syrup) but delicious!
I am prepping mine right now. I've only just managed to get some as I had to wait ages for my pectin to arrive (today) and someone mowed the lawn around here literally right before I could forage D:
Little Wolf Taima: How selfish of them! 😉🌱🇬🇧
Dandelion Honey sounds delicious!
Pick the flowers. Clean in salt water for two hours. Rinse off. Dip in egg and roll in flour. Fry until slightly crispy. Salt and eat. Taste like fried mushrooms. I've ate many of them.
My husband and I were driving through town earlier this week. There was a lady on her knees in the yard digging. Used to my weedy endeavors, he asked what in the world is she doing. I told him she was digging up dandelions and was trying to get as much of the roots as possible, so her yard would be just grass. With this puzzled expression on his face, he asked Why? I laughed and said not everyone appreciates things like that. Plus, they make delicious jelly ☺️
When I was a kid we ate all the primroses. They were quite nice.
Now they are protected.
I use to cook the stems, they taste like spinach. Never tried the flowers though. Just the stems and leaves. I use to drink pine needle tea, too.
I love pine needle tea, it is citrusy

At the end. Was she at the Cherokee Village in Tahlequah, Oklahoma? Looks familiar.
Excellent video
The roots are better for you. Just make sure you wash them good or you’ll be chewing dirt too.
Didn’t know you could eat the entire dandelion. 🤔 Have a whole lot in the backyard.
Yup a super food
Makes a great jelly!
Just make sure they don't have any pesticides on them
kaydenpat same but it’s in my front yard no pesticides
Roasting the roots, grinding them, makes a delicious tea.
They are a vital food source for bumblebees.
Isn't every plant a vital food source for bees?
I ate them (from supermarket) a couple of times and didn't like the after effects at all. They're both diuretic and laxative, so to me it's a medicinal plant that should not be used routinely.
In Texas these grow crazy.
Yessss it does
Yesssss my whole front yard and backyard is filled with them just leave the yard bare no pesticides and u bet dangelions will grow crazy
GREAT WORK
Now that I know that the leaves can be eaten I think Ill try this.
Just to add, for anyone who's interested. Dandelion leaves are best first thing in the spring. The new leaves are not bitter or tough. They actually are very good. Later leaves get tough to chew and get more and more bitter as they age.
I'll make a pasta or orzo or quinoa salad, then put a bowl of rinsed dandelion flowers and greens in a bowl, so people can take how much they want to mix into their salad. Any leftovers go into a Zip-Loc® or other resealable bag or bowl and into the fridge for later. We love to eat dandelions in Montana USA.
What about the white fluffy kind of blows in the Wind dandelions
They turn fluffy and white once they die. Those fluffy bits are the seeds! They wont taste very good at that stage
Thank you
I LOVE that thumbnail
Brew it up with Burdock and you’ve got a top and really nice soft drink. ‘Dandelion and Burdock’. Sadly hard to find Burdock and even now Dandelions in the UK growing naturally because everything has been built on.
