    I put that same cam and springs in a magnum 360. It's got long tube headers, edelbrock air gap, 650 brawler. It runs good! Great response right off the crack of the throttle and good pull all the way up into the rpms a bit. I look forward to seeing how it does in your 318.

    Recently I have been watching some of the other channels and comp cams with flat tappet lifters has turned into horror stories, after just trying to break in cam and lifters completely warn-out on break in. Causing all that metal to go threw the motor, gotta be disappointing not to mention the cost. I think the only way to go is roller lifters, I just would not chance it with comp cams. I do run a comp cam, extreme energy with flat tappets but it was purchased over 15 years ago and running. Thanks for that video and just trying to get your point of view on that subject.

    • @318willrun
      @318willrun  Рік тому +1

      Yes, flat tappet cams/lifters has had it's turn in the barrel per say. Hoping the roller cam eliminates that issue here. Thanks for watching!

    • @vincemajestyk9497
      @vincemajestyk9497 Рік тому +2

      The operative word is 'Comp'. They have a problem with their lifter suppliers. Not made in the US. People have been running and breaking in FT cams for decades, 70-80 years at least with no problems. Don't be afraid of FT cams. All these people use Comp and then are surprised when they have a problem when there is plenty of info out there. Using Comp your chance of failure goes up by 50%. I wouldn't use anything from them on general principle if they produce this kind of trash and refuse to correct it.

    • @markszczepaniak5888
      @markszczepaniak5888 Рік тому +1

      Like u said if it's there suppliers for flat tappet, why don't they correct this issue, because they are the one who is getting the bad name. Because as it stands I would not spend money on there product.

    • @vincemajestyk9497
      @vincemajestyk9497 Рік тому +1

      @@markszczepaniak5888 I've 'heard' that they get their lifters from Federal Mogul/Sealed Power which in turn makes them in Mexico. The only US based flat tappet lifter Mfr is Johnson Lifters in Taylor, Mi. You could just buy a bare cam and your own lifters but I don't think they would warranty it in that case. I think they don't care about the quality because it's cheap for them to send out another cam. But what about all the trash in your engine? There's a long story about why Johnson won't sell lifters to Comp (and Comp doesn't buy them). Some more, 'reputable' companies like Crower, Lunati, Howards, the smaller grinders, have better quality. You can ask them where they get them from. Not positive but I think Comp has standardized to the HT-2011 small block lifter for everything (Chrysler SB/BB).

    Since you aren't using headers, are you using the stock LA manifolds or the magnum style?
    You probably already know that the magnum exhaust manifolds are comparable to the "block hugger" shorty headers, (not quite the same, but a big improvement over the LA manifolds.)
    👍

    • @318willrun

    That cam in a 318 is giving away torque with the 114 lobe separation angle and extra exhaust duration. Unless you have a cork for an exhaust system, the Magnum heads are quite good on the exhaust side, they don't need the extra exhaust duration for a typical street engine. A Magnum headed 318 shouldn't need more than a 110 to 112 degree lobe separation angle for a naturally aspirated engine.
    I understand you already had it on hand. But you can do much better.

      That Sig Erson grind is a great torque cam. I think the advertised dur is something like 292. Pretty high. Long opening and closing ramps. The TQ20 was recommended in a Car Craft 440 build in the '80's. Another nice mild Erson cam is the M/P2. It's a near copy of the Magnum cam. It has the TQ20 intake lobe and the TQ30 exhaust lobe. It's a BB grind but you could get it ground on a SB core. (214/226 @ .050)
