What did you put in your coffee this morning? Once you finish bolting all that stuff up, go into your back yard and dig a big hole. Place one butchered 318 in that hole and fill it back in so no one has to ever see that abortion again.
There’s a local coffee company in Saratoga called death wish that makes the “strongest”coffee in the world. Couple shots of that in the morning wakes you up. 😂
Hey Lunar. I built a very low dollar 5.9 on my channel last winter. It has now around 30x 1/4 mile runs on it. We are close to 3000' above see level and best run on motor was 12.2 best run on 100shot was 11.3. This motor is in a 1959 Studebaker Lark with mostly 1959 suspension. Next season we are aiming for 10.9 on 100 shot. We are going to spray it with 200 shot down the road. Pretty good mills. Hope yours works out well. Nolan.
I've left the crank and rods in on a junkyard 360, but i changed the cam and heads. 360 was out of a wrecked 3/4 ton van with low miles. 25 years later it's still in my 79 stepside that needs valve guides. lol. like your lil video thank u
Rob here.... you're doing what I've already done to my "84" Dodge w350. The factory ignition module from Mopar is too weak of a spark. The HEI is the shiznit...2000 360 magnum out of my Durango bolted right up purs like a kitten. Love her... nothing beats a good running Mopar....💯💪👍🫵
Not bad Lunar think people the one wire Simplicity the HEI any parts store should have modules good job on the heat sink. You have headers stock cam with that 360 magnum. Depending on how fresh it is 285-300 hp
Can't wait to hear it run! Hope its got oil pressure. 🤣I never cared for the 360 config they always seemed rather fuel thirsty and had little more power than my 318's.
Won't hear me cryin'. Everybody and their brother swaps in Ford 9 inchers. So much for purity. GM and Ford have had Dana's as OEMs so hey man, whatever works.
What oil pan did you end up going with? From what I understand both the 5.9 and 5.2 magnums use the same oil pan and in a swap you'd want a 360 LA pan? Did you go with a magnum gasket or an LA gasket?
yes, like I mentioned in the video, it’s a specific part for that specific engine, because not only is the 360 extremely balanced, but the magnum 360 is actually externally, balanced differently than the LA 360.
Much better choice for the heavier B-body, than a 318. More torque, earlier in the band. You will pay the price at the pumps though. You must have found out and solved the driver's side mount being different on the 360. Same with the 360 flywheel being balanced differently than the 318. Wondering where the Magnum's timing chain tensioner was? I use them on LA engines for the smoothest idle you ever heard/felt. Next time use the later Denso alternator, which is a virtual bolt on , with the magnum brackets. 140 amps, 105 at flaming idle for Pete's sake, half the size and weight of a traditional Cheeseler alternator too. And your donor truck came with one free. Using headers? Cause them Magnum manifolds ain't -a-gonna work in that there Sebring. Liking the video and your efforts. Ease up on the thc boy, you got the giggles. Malcolm Ottawa Valley
Just had a couple shots of death wish coffee, good way to start the morning. 😂 In the interest of not making the video an hour long, I cut some things out. I definitely recommend anyone planning on doing the swap go to magnumswap.com. The 360 is a different balance the 318, and the 5.9 magnum is a different than the LA 360. I got the fly wheel for the magnum 5.9 from American Powertrain. It was specifically designed for this application. The harmonic balancer is the old style, but it was brand new from summit racing for the 5.9 L magnum as well. The engine that was an easy obstacle to overcome however, I was surprised to run into it, because they did not mention that on magnumswaped.com. I was thinking about using the alternator that came with the truck, but it wasn’t in the best of shape, and that bracket is awful bully. And headers can be “adjusted” engine master showed that it doesn’t make that much of a difference. I have read people grinding the magnum mounts points off, but I don’t really like that solution
@@LunarOutlawsGarage weirdest(good weird) thing about the Denso alternators is they'll seize if you leave them sitting for months at a time or in humid areas (Ottawa Valley), as they have very tight tolerances. The good part is after you put the pulley in the vice and rotate the alternator, spraying penetrating oil on it and get it moving again.....the damn thing charges! Opened the hood at a gas station once and the Denso has flames coming off it(bearings were done). Poured my Coke Zero on it, put it out. The car restarted and drove 25 more miles to where I had another Denso.....charging all the way, lights bright, radio on, heater too. I'm beyond impressed with them, and their unbelievably high output compared to the old style Cheeseler alternators. I can tell you the old style is DONE charging after a fire and will dead short at the first sign of trouble and leave you on foot. Their gear reduction starters are even more impressive. Damn things turn over faster than my LA engines idle. With twice the torque and half the battery draw AND you can replace the copper lugs for under a buck, in 15 minutes flat. I love em'! I just nutted two 45 degree male spade connectors onto the field wire connections on the Denso alternator and that was the extent of the wiring mods. Not a single cut or soldered wire, just bolts on.
I’m putting my 5.9 magnum together I got a one piece oil pan gasket. My question is do I use it with the LA timing cover or do I cut it in the front and out la gasket in front ?
If you’re not going to be doing the mechanical fuel pump you don’t need to put the LA timing cover on it. However if you want to run the older style accessories you will have to use the LA timing cover, but gonna stick with an electric fuel pump, remembering to black off the provision for the fuel pump
@@LunarOutlawsGarage yea I bought the cam snout extension to run mechanical fuel pump and will be running la timing cover and accessories. But do I just use the one peice oil pan gasket for magnum with la timing cover will that work or will it leak
Just run 70s mopar electric ignition it's not that complicated and plenty reliable, I've been daily driving these old mopars ever day since I got my license. Keep your mopar all mopar
oh yeah OEM ones are reliable. Unfortunately they’re getting old and the repop replacement ones nowadays are not reliable at all. The quality of aftermarket has gone downhill so bad that I’ve heard people buying a handful of them and only getting one that works.
That awesome man 🤙. Have you checked out the magnumswap website? One of the only things I really didn’t cover is the driver side engine mount ears are thicker so you have to accommodate that when you put the engine mount on.
@@LunarOutlawsGarage Thanks! I'll check it out. I have been there, but it was during my research to decide what engine to go with. I totally forgot all about it as a resource.
Wish I could take credit for any of this. JustMoparJoe directed me towards that one website and it’s pretty straightforward. I was actually really surprised.
I think you’ll be happy with the 360. The 318 should have been bored with all the taper it had in the cylinders. I thought you had a 440 for the satellite?

Yeah, the gym electronics just makes sense now it is especially seeing how if you try to get aftermarket Mopar electronics, they generally don’t work. The intake manifold I threw on there is an Edelbrock air gap for the magnum.
Lol you and I watched different races. The 318 wasn’t the reason why he won that race. Tony was running a 3000 pound car against a truck that was nearly twice its weight. Tony cut the light at about halfway through the second yellow, making it so his reaction time was right about at the green (sub .1 I wouldn’t be surprised if the reaction time was around .079). If you watching unity motorsport’s video, you can see that he was pretty nervous and he left at the green light. Meaning Tony won that race before the light turned green.
@caseyfreeman3994 lol I did call him out nearly two years ago. I have a whole video calling him out with the Supra. There was a whole back and forth between him and I in the comment section. He had no interest in running my supra and attempted to get me to back down. It was quite funny. I know work with people that used to be his boss. I know all I need to know about tony I have no interest in ever dealing with him again.
