Love the channel Ben! I actually saw you at the race - I was the guy that yelled "Hey it's Ben from The Ride!!" Near the finish line. Cool to see you out there. Keep the great content coming!
Doesn't get any better than this! The host, the new mystery bikes, the winners and why I tune in to see Pete post race looking like Alexander Hamilton after a rough night of partying!
Great video and report. I know you gotta be tired but I def appreciate you riding the race and then jumping into interview mode to give those not fortunate enough to be there an inside look.
The Stigmata 3 (current version) has a fairly tall stack, so it is likely they would reduce this a bit in the new model to allow racers and shorter folks to get a bit more aero position. shorter head tube also saves a little weight. (I ride a Stig 3).
Thanks for the fast upload of the post race video. I rode the CedarCross in Missouri with you back in 2016. I’ve been hooked on your videos ever since.
Great video Ben! It also looks like the new Santa Cruz Stigmata is using SRAM's UDH, making it compatible with the new SRAM Eagle Transmission - which Keegan is seen running. Really looking forward to seeing this new bike release.
Perhaps with the shorter head tube the frame is built to be suspension corrected - so the geo doesn’t get altered when a suspension fork is installed? (Re: Santa Cruz)
This was probably your most interesting content ever! Maybe that is an overstatement. I had a good chuckle this morning as I got my e mail from Canyon titled “Canyon wins unbound”… and below pictures and specs for the Grail and the Grizl… Yet there it is.. the “new” bike that won, that nobody can buy yet. That is either awesome marketing… or really bad marketing :). I guess it will depend on when that bike is release. Personally I am really intrigued by that handlebar. I just bought an Aspero a couple of months ago so by the time I buy Another GR bike canyon will have moved on to another cool, unreleased bike.
Massive effort Ben. Grateful for the look at Canyon's new unreleased Grail. I have all but convinced myself to go top end Crux for my needs but cooling my jets until Canyon makes it official and can evaluate specs.
Yeah, I mean the elements of the logo are there, and it is 100,000% a Canyon, but they have just taken the trouble to ‘mask’ the bike. Thanks for the feedback.
Seems to be a convergence in the gravel market, and im a fan of both bikes. Stigmata, the enve MOG, this Canyon, etc. all seem to be optimizing on a particular geo/feature set, or at least looks that way with sweeping toptube. Features like semi-integrated cable routing through headset is the sweet spot for clean set up but able to swap stems/travel with the bike. Storage in downtube will be a common feature going forward and im a fan. Only concern w/ Canyon looked like a D-shaped seatpost? Not a fan of proprietary seatposts after experiencing it with a Giant Revolt.
Please do a separate video on KS’s new Stigmata and setup, especially on why he chose a smaller frame size compared to the one he rode last year, which you profiled in a short. The new one has a significant tt slope so the massive saddle to bar drop may be illusory but damn…200 miles at race pace in that setup is unreal.
Keegan has been concentrating on getting aero, he rides fast! I think you are right about the frame size, I think this might be an indication the new Stigmata has a longer reach (which IMO would be an improvement, I ride a 58 Stig 3 with a 120 mm stem). A shorter seat tube would be a welcome change for me as well, more exposed seat post equals a little more compliance, and less frame weight.
Good report and Quick turnover between race and new video !! Good debriefing and good catch on the new stuff - and peanut butter / crunchy for everyone No one was immune
Quick Question: When riders set up their bikes with a DuraAce Crankset and a GRX rear Der and cassette - how is a current DA 12-speed crank compatible with the 11-speed GRX setup? Do they install 11-speed chain compatible chainrings on the DA cranks?
@@TheRidewithBenDelaney Hey Ben! I have discovered that they are just running the older 11sp chainsets… Your reviews are the best! Thanks for the great & honest content!!
Going off of the rest of the Santa Cruz line-up, there will probably be a fancy direct mount version with the new sram axs, and then there will be a ‘normal’ derailleur hanger version without the direct mount
It's surprising to see that Carolin's Canyon bike with the Dura Ace drivetrain and rear derailleur didn't even have the clutch on a gravel race like Unbound, yet she still got first without any issues.
Stigmata with much clearance in the front and back, and so much a2c at the front, makes me wonder if it’s actually a Highball mtb frame with a rigid fork and some graphics to throw us a curve ball
man, 10 years ago Dirty Kanza was a bunch of mustachioed hippies racing in anonymity. Now it's a world tour event with secret bikes. Not sure what to make of it!
@@TheRidewithBenDelaney No, not that. In the shot of it against the storefront window, it looks like the bottle cage is mounted on top of something. Maybe a bracket to hold a pump or something? Maybe it's one of those WolfTooth B-Rad things?
@@thatonefeller3375 agree, definitely looks like the Wolftooth B-RAD 2 to make room for a tall bottle. It looks like Tobin barely had room for a tall bottle on a bigger frame.
Uh I would like have more info about that Canyon as I am looking to get a gravel bike and the one thing that is keeping me from jumping on a grail is the hoverbar. Grizl is my preferred choice so far
Regardless of the technical qualities of the original Grail, it was too goofy looking for a lot of riders. I ended up getting the Grizl. The new Grail should be a hot seller.
I really like that winning Santa Cruz bike and it sure looks mud-repelling with 1x and lots of tire clearance and nimble 40s, so much to like. And my favorite part is the frame, small like a BMX bike and some of those frames were the coolest in the early days, like the JMC I bought in '79 with its flat downtube. And speaking of downtubes, are those storage boxes for real or just marketing hype, are real racers really using them or are they best for tourists who like to stock up on the snacks at the gas station? And thanks for asking questions, Ben, it seems that the Canyon riders didn't get the marketing materials in time to talk about their bikes, but O well, surely Canyon will tell us a little something one of these days. 😀
Canyon I'm sure told riders not to talk about it. Specialized and other brands do similar soft rollouts of product. Not the riders' fault for the lack of communication; they're just following orders, I'm sure.
I think the storage boxes are a nice feature. Why not eliminate at least the need for a saddle bag and free up room for more necessities in any frame bags you need to run?
To me On the the new Santa Cruz the top tube looks like it’s dropped and the seat tube lower from the current one like they are thinking about droppers becoming popular on more aggressive gravel bikes. But might just be me
Ben, if yr YT channel goes silent after this top secret expose, we'll all know what happened. Like the sotto voce, for effect. Nice touch🙂 Thanks for the inside info.
Looks like both bikes have much taller forks. They will then have better compatibility with suspension forks, no real geometry changes then. That jives with the apparent shorter head tube to keep the overall stack the same.

Everyone I know who went to Unbound didn't even have a race. It was a long mucky walk. Should be interviewing anyone who brought a fat bike with flat pedals and belt drive.
I thought Keegan was just riding a smaller size bike to have a lighter, easier to manipulate rig, because of that head tube, and how high his seat post was- didn’t realize it was a new prototype
