Chunky, landing the punches is challenging like you said but mixing this with the timer and the pressure of not wanting to lose at the very end of the fight makes this part very intense
I'm really happy that Chunky was the Kong to deliver that satisfying final blow on K Rool. For a character who was a massive coward the entire game, he absolutely earned that final victory. Even as he was waving to the crowd of Kremlings booing at him, he doesn't care, Chunky faced his fears, Chunky won :D
Uhm have you ever played the game? He isnt a coward. Hes just skittish and nervous. Being a coward is running from danger. But just like Luigi WHO Doesnt run from danger. Luigi and Chunky are both brave. Being brave is facing adversity in spite of being afraid.
Exactly! This is why Chunky became so powerful that Microsoft made a deal with K Rool to kill Chunky off because of the deity he became by defeating enemies that even DK and Diddy could not with Dogadon and punching the stamina out of K Rool. 😉😂
I always loved how as Diddy takes down the lights, it affects the lighting of the stage, then when all four lights are down, the stage is fully dark, and it stays that way during Lanky's fight, then by the next fight, they have new lights already set up lol
I was floored when I learned you could orange grenade phase 4 toes with Tiny. That last primate punch with Chunky was probably the most satisfying end to the whole fight
This fight was crazy. The part of Tiny was a pain, but watch Chunky being as strong as K Roll and sending him back to his corner with a punch to the face is amazing.
Ok. So during this boss fight it's stated Chunky is 2000 pounds. That's heavy. So I looked up what ape weighs 2,000 pounds. The closest is the gigantopithecus, a prehistoric extinct ape that was 10 feet tall and up to 1,200 pounds. Chunky is an overweight gigantopithecus. And since tiny is his cousin she is probably also a gigantopithecus.
Donkey Kong 64 has the funniest final boss in video game history. It may be silly, but it rightfully feels like a final confrontation. The fact that you out of nowhere end up in a boxing ring is so symbolic. Basically King K. Rool knows his screwed after K. Lumsy thwarts his attempt to escape. Having no choice, he basically tells the Kongs "Fine, if a fight is what you want, a fight is what you're gonna get! Might as well make it a huge freakin' spectacle while we're at it!" Throughout this match, his underlings try their hardest to rig the fight in his favor because they know K. Rool is no match for our champions, the Kongs!
I failed the timing of the punches with Chunky Kong several times, it was always that part that sent me back to the start. But oh man, just getting to reach this boss fight, and eventually beating it too, felt amazing, especially since *I* was the one who did it, and not any of my older brothers. Just overall a great closure to a game that has brought fond memories
I always loved this final boss. I love how this game mixes some pretty serious moments with moments that could be in a kid's cartoon. Hideout Helm is so intense with that doomsday clock while that epic music plays, after that I was expecting an epic final boss... and then you fight the boss by making it slip on banana peels and the final hit is a boot on his ass. Something about that makes DK 64 so unique. I love it
Something that adds to the fight that no one could have known about back when it came out is that this is the last big fight between the Kongs and K Rool. It's like he put so much into this plan and was so devastated by this loss that he never came back. Yeah there were a few spin offs and smash bros but as far mainline DK games go K Rool hasn't been the bad guy in like 20 years! It turns an awesome fight into the climatic finale of K Rool, his big last stand!
Honestly, this final boss fight is super engaging. It’s goofy, challenging, lengthy, full of charm, everything you’d expect from a final boss fight. I love how each section for each Kong is using their unique abilities, except for Lanky. Although, I guess his trombone is exclusive to him. And his super LONG stretchy arms which still don’t make sense. There’s not much else I can say about the boss fight since you kind of said everything in the video. It’s just super memorable and super satisfying to get that final punch with chunky to end it.
The K. Rool fight uses all the Kongs abilities with a creativity I wish we got more of in the earlier boss battles. It really is the game at it's absolute best.
Exactly this, K.Rool reminds me a little bit of Gruntilda in that their true enemy is their own ego, at the end it takes the entire DK crew efforts(minus Cranky, I guess) to finish him off, while not as overpowered and ego maniac as Gruntilda, it's clear he would have a better chance against the kongs if he didn't turn the entire thing into a ridiculous boxing match which only handicapped him, since the kongs used their entire arsenal caring very little about boxing etiquette, he went for so much trouble because he wanted the empty ovations of his subordinates, what a fool, but I love him so much hahaha.
Good video! I remember this boss fight catching me so off guard as a kid. It was kind of a tonal shift. At the beginning of the game, K. Rool seemed so threatening, but then we get to this final showdown. We get thrown a curveball with like a Punch-Out!! parody and K. Rool being kind of a goofball! It was kind of a stressful fight as a kid in trying to figure out how to solve each Kong's phase while he attacks. Though, I remember enjoying it as it was completely silly and unexpected. K. Rool lusting after Candy Kong was just a bit weird, though. 😅
I'd for sure call this the best King K Rool boss fight of all of Donkey Kong. I love the first two battles with him in DKC1 & 2 (not 3 that one sucks!) but this one is by far the most complex and fun of them all. Now I only wish we could get K. Rool back in the series so we can have another epic showdown with him.

I never got to the final boss in this game as a kid. Wasn’t until I was like maybe 17 I finally did. I spent my childhood wondering what the Final boss would be like. And to say I was shocked is no surprise. I was not expecting this for the final boss. It felt so out of place and different from the rest of the game. But the fight itself is so fun! I love how it uses all the Kongs at their very best! It may not have been anything I imagined it was. But it was a really fun one!
I remember hearing in some discussion with Rare devs that the final boss fight was designed by someone outside of the main DK64 dev team that they brought in to help get the game finished on time, which is why many of the mechanics (like Lanky's long arm button press) are completely new and not really congruous with the rest of the game (like how you jump into K.Rool's crashed ship and end up in a boxing ring somehow).
People complaining about shit in a game that is not MANDATORY will always be asinine.. complaining about collectables you don't have to collect but nobody gave Odyssey shit about having over 800 power moons to collect.. we love picking and choosing

I question the sanity of ANYBODY who likes DK64!

I still think Gruntilda from Banjo Kazooie is one of the best final battles in gaming. She’s a perfect mix of comedy and actual threat. The music is intense, the setting is awesome and when you finally get the last egg in the giant Jinjo it’s so satisfying to see her finally get hers. K.Rool’s best fight for me was from DKC2, I like the 64 fight but it’s a bit too segmented for me. That damn music gets stuck in my head whenever I hear it though. Also Wizpig 1, lol that’s….interesting.
This fight is AMAZING, and really, really tough. I actually did manage to beat it as a kid, but the Tiny phase gets me almost every time. Is there actually a pattern with the toes? I never managed to work one out. Just watch for the toes that are moving and get out of the way.
I love this boss fight even if it feels a little drawn out. Definitely is frustrating if your a small kid struggling with a specific phase of the fight

I don't think I've spent more time fighting one boss than King Krusha K. Rool. When I was a kid, a 15-minute boss fight was almost unheard of, especially since dying meant you had to restart the whole thing. I think it adds to the scale and nerves the fight generates, frustrating as it may be.
1) my only nitpick was that I felt the K.Rool fight went on for a little bit too long. But it was still a great fight (…..except for Lanky 😒) 2) Lankywas a bit clunky but I had more issue in the length of Lankys segment. I really didn’t like that I had to sit out a few seconds on playing the instrument each time. But that’s just me 3) I liked Tiny’s segment the most. And had the most trouble with it. 4) 7:14 R34
After three years of getting those stupid coins, I thought my fight with K. Rool would be like Dr. Neo Cortex from the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy. Fighting on top of the Flying Krock, fighting while chasing him, and hitting him and sending him into a hole. Instead, I fought him in a wacky boxing match with 5 different Kongs per turn.

I'm sorry for sounding cynical, but I've been following a few kerfuffles lately about content farms with suspicious upload pace. And then UA-cam starts feeding me this marathon hot off of the heels of that. It started me in the middle of the series, so when I looked and saw a month of daily uploads, I couldn't help but think, "Wait a minute..." I get that this is an exhaustive review released in individual videos by segment. I should watch the rest because this is a game I've adored since getting it with the green N64 the Christmas it came out.
All good. A few people have made similar claims, or think that I'm using AI to make these videos, which is frustrating after spending a lot of time and hard work on this series. It wouldn't take much time to scroll, see the 1 minute video titled "Donkey Kong December 2024" and connect the dots from there.
And this is the only game you see where DK and Diddy DO NOT defeat K Rool but Chunky D Kong leader of the bunch we know well after his saga is over in this game 😉😂
King K Rool. The staple villain of DK. (Well he was but unfortunately is sidelined lately in the series. Seriously Nintendo bring back K rool and the kremlins in your next DK game!) Anyway it's pretty awesome how every kong gets to fight this mighty king. DK gets to use the cannons, Diddy flies, Lanky uses his arms and sillyness, Tiny has to be tiny to hurt K Rool, and Chunky becomes giant to finally take him down. It can be tough sure but it's a very well done and epic final battle to a fun game.

Voice Transcripts are awful for UA-cam when it assumes certain people were talked about, worst yet you can't even disable them for videos. I remember the K. Rool fight was pretty fun and challenging, I've only ever beaten the game a handful of times, mostly because I struggled to collect those Arcade Coins to get the final key.

It started me in the middle of the series, so when I looked and saw a month of daily uploads, I couldn't help but think, "Wait a minute..."
I get that this is an exhaustive review released in individual videos by segment. I should watch the rest because this is a game I've adored since getting it with the green N64 the Christmas it came out.
All good. A few people have made similar claims, or think that I'm using AI to make these videos, which is frustrating after spending a lot of time and hard work on this series. It wouldn't take much time to scroll, see the 1 minute video titled "Donkey Kong December 2024" and connect the dots from there.

King K Rool. The staple villain of DK. (Well he was but unfortunately is sidelined lately in the series. Seriously Nintendo bring back K rool and the kremlins in your next DK game!)
Anyway it's pretty awesome how every kong gets to fight this mighty king. DK gets to use the cannons, Diddy flies, Lanky uses his arms and sillyness, Tiny has to be tiny to hurt K Rool, and Chunky becomes giant to finally take him down. It can be tough sure but it's a very well done and epic final battle to a fun game.

But it's not a "good" fight- it's FAR too long, drawn out, hard as hell, and freaking cheap!

No UA-cam...... these are NOT the people mentioned in the video. Voice Transcripts are awful for UA-cam when it assumes certain people were talked about, worst yet you can't even disable them for videos.
I remember the K. Rool fight was pretty fun and challenging, I've only ever beaten the game a handful of times, mostly because I struggled to collect those Arcade Coins to get the final key.
