In my opinion the 306's chassis is one of the best of its time. The clio seems to handle a bit like a 205 with massive oversteer. Great driving to both, with regards to the 306's driver. Cheers from France :)
I had a 1.9TDI (no HDi back then!) mechanically tuned by the Derv Doctor. Modern drivers will never understand what it feels like to drive a car that weighs 1000kg with a tuned turbo, I used to call it the rocket roller skate and the missile with a man in it. No 1800kg ev hatch will ever make you feel the way a mk1 306 did. Physics simply won't allow it.
This was awesome to watch, and it makes me miss my old 306 even more. I bought it to race on the ring, but it was too worn out and had to go. Sadly in Denmark they are so rare, and only one is currently for sale - yes one as in 1! Mine was a ph1, and I want one of those again! RIGHT NOW lol
This is inspiring:) I’m too young to drive a real car (though sometimes I get the chance to drive for a bit in the country) but this only encourages me to get a car with a manual when I’m old enough Now I wish I can sort my dusty G27’s software out...
244/5000 Boys!!!! I love your comparison, I am from Spain I currently own a 306 GTI-6 and in its day I was about to buy a clio sport 197 I really liked your video! Thank you very much for sharing your experience.
By the way, at the end of the circuit when the 306 overtakes the clio. the clio loosen gas I suppose not? I'm glad that soon you get more and I really like your piloting! especially that point heels Keep going :)
Camber and Combustion have you ever tried a 106 rallye/gti 16v or a saxo vts 16v? What is yout best btg time with the 306? Its is way too prone to lift off oversteer or it is manageable on high speed turns?
Mr. Vtec it depends what you want from the car. There isn’t much difference in the way of straight line performance. The difference is in the way that the cars handle, the 306 is more loose and sensitive to lift off oversteer whereas the Clio feels more planted to the road but is still adjustable with use of the throttle.
I went from a GTi-6 to a 3 200 RS - for pure fun there's not much in it. Clio has ridiculous grip and brakes (more track car out of the box) and the GTi-6 has this Jekyll and Hyde transformation from refined to lift-off oversteering lout (lots of character). 200 was a bit quicker in a straight line but that's not what these cars are about. My GTi-6 was falling to bits though (aside from drivetrain) - and both cars are very rare where I live. Clio is newer, safer and more reliable, plus those hardcore seats, widebody, brakes and suspension are hard to deny.
I can' believe that you were overtaken by VW Scirocco at caruselle... at that point of the track, the VW's engine should have burned all of it's engine oil!
What the hell happened to French cars? If you wanted to have an absolute blast and didn't mind the gremlins, Peugeot and Renault were the gold standard for a while. Now Renault has disappeared from the UK and Peugeot doesn't make sports cars at all, and when it did it gave them wet belts that disintegrated or fuel pumps that ate each other. The 208 GTi should have been a huge triumph but I couldn't keep mine running and lost a grand and a half in the two months I owned it! That's not the kind of fun anyone is looking for.
Mouais je voudrais bien voir ça contre une Clio 3 RS Cup phase 2, qui sort vraiment ses chevaux et à un châssis de dingue, je pense que la 306 serait loin derrière du genre 30s au tour à pilote égal.
We've used GoPros for this with the image stabilisation off. We've found that under various conditions such as vibration etc the video just distorts like that unfortunately.
The Clio has to be defect, the driver of it not pushing or that 306 is tuned to at least 200 hp. Otherwise it's not explainable that the Pug can keep up like this.
DaWhatEva DaWhatEva we can confirm both drivers were pushing and both engines are standard in this video - see video description for specs. On paper the 306 is only 30bhp down and 197s are known for not making full power out of the factory. The 306 is also lighter.
@@CamberandCombustion I used to own a 306 (just an XSi) myself and now own a Clio 200. So, I know a bit about these cars. I really doubt you can compensate 30hp and the missing revs by at best 150 kg in weight difference. There's a reason why you see so many 197/200 and only very few 306 around there and that while the 306 would surely be the cheaper option.
@@DaWhatEva well if the the 306 is lighter then 1045kg after stripping it actually has a better power to weight ratio. So its very well possible that they're close in straight line performance
Renaults sports good cars but common. 306 gti6 or rallyes are just as good but people don't know exist sometimes 😂 also people hate on peugeot but forget they make some of the best hot hatches about.....
Camber and Combustion Gracias es algo obvio... unos asientos y ya tenemos un coche para chavalines sin ánimo de ofender pero se podían esforzar más en crear un coche.
Wow pure old school hot hatch fun. I love the NA engines ain’t a turbo fan myself. Congrats.
Thanks Cem, sometimes you can’t beat a good bit of NA!
Couldn't take my eyes off the footwork, especially the Pug's. Amazing. I wish I could drive like that. I feel like my 197 doesn't get used properly.

Yep agree about 306 had 1.8 on twisty bits just perfect handling

Great video! Left foot braking in the 306 in on point!
Thanks John!

Thanks! The GTi6 is getting rarer by the day, even more so the Ph1s!
In France you can found it
That was awesome driving from both. Just shows anyone can enjoy a race driver feel even with cheap hot hatches.
Those camera switches between cars are great. Footwork aswell, some real driving skills right there.
Lovely to see these little croissants getting driven on their door handles :)
This is hell of a driving! Nice, shows why we love hothatches!
Takes me back to my xsara vts. Absolutely sick
awesome ! now that's what I call having real fun ! great great video. I had a good time watching it.
Great drive by both of you yet again. Great vid also. 👍
I’ve owned two 6s and always wondered what the 197 was like. Clearly not in the same league! Awesome vid! Great driving
Nice driving boys, great pedal work 👍
Thanks Phil!

Yes at the end the Clio let off the accelerator to let the 306 pass. The acceleration of the cars is very very close!
Thanks for your support!
Soys fantastic, By the way I liked the BMW Driving too!
keep going! Thank you so much for sharing it!
A greeting.

Both brilliant hot hatches, I was that enthralled I nearly slavered on the screen😂😂😂
That looked a lot of fun guys great driving :D
is the 306 passive rear steering enable or disable? great driving!
Julio Isnard thanks! In this video the rear steering is enabled. In the recent Nurburgring videos from April this year it is disabled.
@@CamberandCombustion how do you enable it and disable it?
@@ryanmarshall3749 by swapping the rubber components (which flex and allow the passive rear steering) for solid components which do not flex.
Great vid. Did this in my Renault modus 1.2 turbo and kicked ass lol
Wow guys your videos are awesome. Always thought of going to the nurburgring but dont know if i would like to take the ST on track haha
Can't go to the ring and don't drive there. I took it slow, and just driving around the track is very fun.
I would love to get skills like You guys, cheers
Le gars en 306 pilote bien mieux que l’autre avec ca clio belle vidéo
I kind of envy you when I see that footwork in that PUG.Why the hell I cant drive like that?Great drive guy.Love that cars also
GTi6 looks lighter on its feet but 197 looks a bit more composed - 6:35 being a case in point :) :)
Love my gti6, had it for 15 years.
i really wanna see how you both drive a rear wheel drive car, just to see what lines you take
Awsome lap from the 2 of you
Cuantos cv lleva ese 306 GTI? Imagino que más de.los 167 de serie...Buen video.
Really enjoyed this! Definatly in my top three 3 fav ring vids! I need to go there badly
Thanks Dan! Amazing track, there’s nothing like it.
brilliant lap lads
Thanks!
Props to the Clio-driver for adjusting its dashboard-clock to the local time over there *sorry for the troll*
nice race. Clio power/weight should be significantly better than 306 no?
306 modded
PEUGEOT 306 IS BEST
chill out robloxer is that because your granny drives one
porsche gt 3 is better
Of course
Does it make sense to change 306gti to Clio rs? Is the increase in power large given the difference in value?
