HKS makes a catted UEL which is described as “EPA legal” and also is Japan air regulation legal. I don’t know much about US legalities so not sure if that means CARB legal.

I'm not too worried about it yet since I'm still waiting to get the car & don't want to void the warranty right away LOL
The UEL sound is so addictive! It totally changes the character of the engine. I bet it would sound great with the magnaflow. I just read a thread on gr86.org saying that both Counter Space Garage and Delicious Tuning are working on tuning out the cold starts on ECUtec so I bet VFTuner can do the same. The insanely loud cold start is honestly the only negative part of the JDL header.
I really enjoy your BRZ videos, just wanted some tips on the install: in the video, only one grimmspeed header gasket is shown but I guess 2 gaskets are required correct? And for the header to overpipe, you only needed to use 1 gasket? I am looking to install mine next week!

Yes, if you order the gaskets from Grimmspeed it comes in a pack of two and you will need both www.grimmspeed.com/products/grimmspeed-exhaust-manifold-to-head-gasket-pair-subaru Header to overpipe is just one gasket. The Remflex gasket is great, it makes it easy to ensure there are no exhaust leaks. Other advice I would say make sure you have a wobble or swivel socket for the header bolts. A couple of them can be a bit hard to get to with a standard socket and extension. Good luck with the install and let me know if you have any more questions!
Also, can't remember if I mentioned it in the video but definitely remove the 2 spring bolts that connect the front pipe to mid pipe / catback so that you can freely move the overpipe / front pipe piece. It makes it so much easier to get the stock header out (studs from the stock header to overpipe can be tough to wiggle out otherwise). It also makes it easier to install the new header!

You can get it on amazon: amzn.to/4dk2xyS One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that the gray o2 sensor cable is a little short so you will need to unclip the engine side connector from the bracket!
what's the difference in smell with the catless? is it bad? and without tune have you noticed any changes with the torque dip? i know people say 2nd gen removes the dip but theres still a little bit of it
No smell in the cabin but you can smell a bit if you are outside the car. The stock frontpipe has a secondary cat so it is way less smell than going totally catless. Butt dyno says there is more torque down low for sure. I have found myself shifting around 5k instead of redlining it all the time.

Did you have to modify the remflex gasket? Which position does the slotted side go(left or right facing overpipe)? TIA!
No modification necessary. The slotted side can go on either side its just whatever is easier to get the bolts in.

Not sure on dB level. No drone with this setup. The HKS has a good resonator and beefy muffler that is tuned well.
