    So how did Corsets make women's waists smaller in the Victoriana era if u can't train ur waist?

    • @AnaGarcia-ld5lf
      @AnaGarcia-ld5lf Рік тому +8

      Because it was temporary, as it is today, only at that time corsets were more aggressive even and women always wore them, even during pregnancy, but that does not mean that their bodies really changed permanently, only that they permanently wore the corsets to keep them that way.

    • @dreamofjean

      @@AnaGarcia-ld5lf not exactly, over time they will effect your body just like wearing headphones on your head can lead to a literal DENT in your head. It’s not hard to change your body especially overtime.

      Wow! You are right I researched Victorian Corsets and wow they actually do work almost too well, some women shrunk the waist way too much!

    • @seymourbones
      @seymourbones 5 місяців тому +7

      You should also keep in mind that waist training wasn't the only function of corsets historically, they were mostly support for the breasts, and are actually much better than our modern bras, because the weight is distributed through the midsection instead of the back and shoulders

    • @sunburst3476
      @sunburst3476 3 місяці тому

      it didn't actually make your waist smaller. A misconception of victorian fashion and corsets is that these women physically reduced their waist to extreme amounts, when it wasn't the case. They used undergarments, and padding to fill out parts of the body so that their waist looked smaller, in comparison to their chest, hips, buttocks, etc. that were made fuller using such padding and undergarments. They were also able to use photo manipulation to artificially slim down their waist to look even smaller (similar to photoshops, but with altering negatives instead).

    Thank you for taking the time to do these videos! It is very helpful. I would love to hear more about skinny bbl.. I am very fit (but I have some fat too), and I have big hip dips because of my pronounced muscles in my glutes and thighs... is it possible with this kind of shape to fill the hip dip.. or diminish the appearance.. that would be my question!

    • @DrWilliamMiami

      Have to see you to say but what I can say about skinny BBL patients is that they are all different in terms of the softness of the tissue. Some skinny BBL patients I can actually get really good hips but others are very tight and the hips are disappointing.

    Lovely channel, I’ve learned so much! Doctor, how effective can a fat transfer be used to fixed loose skin due to weight loss in the inner thigh instead of the obvious choice: thigh lift? How can one increase the effectiveness of the fat transfer to the thigh for a better result?

    • @DrWilliamMiami
      @DrWilliamMiami  Рік тому

      I have never seen or heard of anyone transferring fat to the inner thighs. If you have extra skin in your thighs from weight loss the best option is a thigh lift--fat graft will just make it heavier and sag more as the skin is not strong enough to support the added fat.

    I purchased this item in hopes that it would provide support for my back because I have problems with doing core exercises. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxYY28Wx5-t2IADbqZBNZSFfIMZF9UAcW2 It definitely does that. However, of you don't get the wrap just right, it can scrape the skin. I have a hard time sweating during exercise, so I'm hoping the sauna part lives up to the hype. I've only had one excersise session with it, but I'm very hopeful that I'll see some results with this. If nothing else, I'm feeling more confident with lumbar support to do ab stuff so that's a plus. I've recommended it to my mom who has the same issue. I'll update later if I have more feedback.

      If you want to wear it for comfort or extra shaping that's fine. The faja can be cumbersome.
      🤫 That's why I will have a newer kind of lighter faja coming in the winter for that exact reason. Sometimes the faja is just too much work and you don't need quite as much compression.

      I would discuss with your surgeon. What I can tell you is what I tell my patients. A body's response to injury is to swell. The bigger the injury the more swelling there is. For example in patients who suffer an 70% burn--70% of their body is badly burned--probably the biggest injury a body can sustain--a patient will soak up over 30 liters of fluid in the first 24 hours! Liposuction is a big trauma to the body so patients will swell a great deal as reflected by the number on the scale. That swelling occurs over the first several days and then as the patient heals it resolves on its own. Sometimes patients will feel as if there is no end in site or they are getting worse as their results look worse than they did on the day of surgery or immediately afterwards but I tell my patients to just give the body time to heal. It knows what it is doing and will get rid of the fluid all in good time as the body heals.

    • @DrWilliamMiami
      @DrWilliamMiami  Рік тому +17

      Yes fajas are super important after surgery--they have a specific purpose:
      fajas are designed to give the patient comfort, decrease swelling, help with skin re-draping, prevent bleeding and limit seroma formation. But a faja will NOT change your waist--the FAT that was REMOVED in the operating room will do that. The faja helps after you have has the fat removed. Realize this: we are all marketed to a ton about waist trainers, and how they work and will shrink your waist, and we have seen hundreds of ads so if some old plastic surgeon makes one video it is hard to overcome the hundreds of ads that has created the feeling that a waist trainer really works. It doesn't. You will look better in one. Feel better in one but there is nothing you can wear to train your waist.

    However, can you explain to us, what is the benefit of wearing a faja if you say it only gives a nice figure under the clothes why is it mandatory to wear after surgery if that’s the case?

    • @DrWilliamMiami
      @DrWilliamMiami  Рік тому +7

      Fajas were originally designed to be shape wear--to give the women a better shape under her clothes. Very much like the very old days when women wore corsets--you know the ones in the movies where it takes two people to help the princess or aristocrat get dressed. The faja was designed for the same thing--just more of a modern version.
      BUT we use the faja and specifically the Ogee Faja after surgery for specific reasons: the Ogee Faja decrease swelling, helps with skin re-draping, prevents bleeding and limits seroma formation. All great things. All necessary and very helpful, BUT a faja won't make up for what didn't happen in the operating room. In other words, the OR is where you get your results. The faja helps no question, you have to wear one, but if fat was left behind no amount of compression will change that.

      Which means your organs are permanently located out of their original positions. If you’re permanently 2 inches smaller, and you have little to no internal fat, then you have possibly squeezed your organs out of their natural positions and they’re now in your diaphragm and your guts may be squeezed too, possibly causing constipation and other ‘bathroom’ issues.

      BLE edema is actually common after surgery. You need to follow your surgeon’s recommendations which typically include limiting your salt and sugar intake, wearing your compression socks, elevating you lower legs above your heart as much as possible, drink plenty of fluids to remain hydrated, get up and walk frequently, urinating often and get plenty of rest. Also make sure you are getting your MLD massages as recommended by your surgeon. If you have any other concerns or experiencing complications I recommend that you contact your surgeon for further assistance.

    I had a tummy tuck in July 2022 i wore the faja for the 2 month after surgery then wore a waist trainer because i couldn't did one they would give me compression on my waist but that would still fit my but hips and thighs. Waist 36 hips 52 not sure about my thighs....its really hard trying to find a faka that will fit me correctly....question: when I don't wear the waist trainer as the day goes on i swell in the upper abdomen right under my breast rest.of the abdomen stays pretty flat, why would that be?

    • @DrWilliamMiami

      Hard to say exactly without examining you but when I hear patients talk about this I think of internal fat. That's what I have seen in my practice--internal fat in the uper abdomen causing "swelling" but it isn't swelling--just internal fat that weight loss will solve.

      The fat is removed with cool sculpting but usually not all of it. I personally am not a big fan of cool sculpting--putting a clamp in one area and melting the fat just has never made sense to me because with lipo all the areas are treated and blended together at once. Also you can get Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia from cool sculpting which is a disaster. But to answer your question you can have liposcution after cool sculpting--a lot of people do!

    • @DrWilliamMiami
      @DrWilliamMiami  Рік тому

      That must be a very, very tight corset because the only way I have seen the ribs give you a smaller waist is when they are broken or removed. Wearing a corset to do either of those things seems dangerous. You can puncture a lung when breaking or cracking a rib.

  • @vickieliupakka2975
    @vickieliupakka2975 Рік тому

    Dr. William, I have a question about compression after a tummy tuck and a breast augmentation…some doctors say no compression for the first 2 weeks and some doctors have you in compression fresh out of surgery. Does the compression in the early stages of wound healing compromise healing by limiting the oxygen to the incision area?

    • @DrWilliamMiami
      @DrWilliamMiami  Рік тому +3

      This whole concept of compression after a tummy tuck is ludicrous to me. Compression is exactly what we DON'T want after a tummy tuck as it kills the tissue. Remember the whole abdominal skin has been lifted off of the abdominal wall and that cuts the blood supply so adding pressure can further limit that blood supply and kill the tissue.

    It seems kind of obvious in retrospect.. one can't get a permanent or even somewhat lasting change to their physiology just by pushing on soft tissue, right? It has no way to actually affect the structure of the body. But why are there so many accounts of people actually achieving fair results with corsetry and waist training when done 'right'- and actually maintaining those changes for days to weeks without needing to keep the garment on?
    Is it possible that the lower ribs are being pressed in by strict enough waist training, and adapting to the shape over time? Maybe the floating ribs are being angled inwards, or the cartilage connecting the lower ribs to the sternum is being compressed and holding it's shape? I can't seem to find anyone talking about that, but it seems like the only plausible way for a result to happen.

    • @DrWilliamMiami
      @DrWilliamMiami  10 місяців тому

      Floating ribs are not really floating--they are just not attached to the sternum but you can't "bend" them into a new position. It is impossible. Cartilage will bend but it returns to it's original shape. Otherwise you could just pinch your nose everyday and reshape your nose.

    • @DrWilliamMiami
      @DrWilliamMiami  Рік тому

      You can only lose as much weight as you can and get rid of the internal fat and then have lipo to remove the external fat and that's all you can do to get the smallest waist. I know some plastic surgeons are removing ribs and breaking them and pushing them in to narrow the waist but I don't do any of those procedures. Some patients have incredibly small waists and others do not.

      Totally different purpose. A faja is not trying to change your waist. The faja provides comfort, limits swelling, prevents bleeding, helps the skin to re-drape and when used with foams decreases the risk of developing fibrosis. The waist trainer just keeps your abdomen warm but it is not doing anything.
