One of the main things high elves do well is they put teachers as the most important people of their society, only after them come princes, artists, merchants, soldiers and so on. Teaching and art are really highly valued. Also anyone who's good at anything is worthy in their eyes. If your job is to sweep the floors, if you become a master floor sweeper, everyone will see you with respect, even nobles.
i feel like there is a very low skill ceiling with sweeping unless you cross into entertainment/stunts territory (watch me twirl the pizza dough, dont worry how it tastes) but i also get what youre saying lol
Please do one on Aka and Lorkhan and their connections, and how both aren't really opposed to each other, like how Pelinal is possibly a time traveler but also is a Shezzarine, so he had to manipulate space and time which both Aka and Lorkhan represent.
@@GhostShadow1030 this is true to an extent as there were possibly other Shezzarine who weren't Dragonborn, like Zurin Arctus, but what I mean is also in the sense that if Lorkhan and Aka are opposites what does that mean, as Aka is time then Lorkhan has to be space, which means both together represent Space-Time, which means they possibly are not necessarily opposed to each other, as also some Dragonborn are Shezzarine like Hjalti(Tiber Septim) and Ysmir Wulfharth.
the altmer are my favorite tes race 💜 i've played as one in every tes game!! they get a lot of shit bc of the thalmor even though they don't represent the race as a whole, so it's nice to see my faves getting the love they deserve!!
Other than my first ever Morrowind character (a Nord) I always play as a high elf my first playthrough and is usually my main. They have great lore and are op to play as.
Maybe the British Empire when they still valued their North German roots (which is a bit weird considering their ruling class is Norse-French but w/e).
I think that's a good comparison but I also a bit ancient china can be attributed to the High Elves with them inventing many things that are found in Tamriel like most schools of magic, much like China inventing fireworks or gunpowder in ancient times.
With art being the second most important thing next to education to the Altmer you can see how this relates to them being obsessed with being descendants of the Aedra, they value at the inherent level, creation, despite not wanting to be mortal of body and being. and they go to the greatest lengths to demonstrate how capable they are of creating wonders and beautious things, and yet feel that it isn't near enough to the level of flawlessnes they would wish it to have. their greatest weakness is they can never be truly fullfilled with anything for long. their greatest strength from it however is that they will keep reaching for greater heights past anything the other mortal races would achieve, if they can manage to put their work before their ego.
I just love you guys. You’ve really introduced and given me my first fan base to be a part of - which was important during 2020. I started watching around Covid time and began playing Skyrim for the first time because of your influence.
Honestly i think an empire under the Bosmer would be pretty nice, even though they wouldn't want to expand beyond the Valenwood. But they have a very relaxed view of life, they care about the enviornment, and if you neighbor pisses you off you can just eat them.
Can you make a Fallout 4 build as a Cult Leader? Use Kremvh's Tooth (A unique sacrificial machete,) agility for high stealth, and high charisma for building settlements to amass a following of devout followers? I imagine the lore would go something like this "You were once the cult leader at the Dunwich Borers before the war, but when everything went to hell you planted your sacrificial blade and froze yourself, your wife, and your child in Vault 111, expecting to rebuild the commonwealth under the banner of your cult, post war. When you escape the vault, you build a new life, by setting out to retrieve your old blade, and amassing your first followers."
I always saw the high elves weakness to magic as an indicator that their bodies were highly absorbant to magic energies making them regenerate magic faster but also making it easier for hostile magic to affect them.
Awe man if only I could be a part of the podcast. You guys have educated so many fans including myself to finally understanding the world of Nirn, and now I’m more into Skyrim’s roleplaying then ever before!
It would be funny if the Altmer find out that they somehow can't reach apotheosis, because they're cursed like the Dunmer. I really like High Elves; they're probably my favorite elven race with the Dunmer being a very close second. I hope that they show many more High Elves who disagree with the Thalmor/Aldmeri Dominion in TES: VI so that more people stop hating them and to add some more nuance to their background. I'd also like to be able to fight the Thalmor as a High Elf and for it to canonically make more sense too.
It already would make sense canonically though. The Night of Green Flames was a massacre of dissident anti-Thalmor Altmer refugees in Hammerfell by Thalmor spies. A lot of Altmer would have lost loved ones in that attack. The Thalmor also view Altmer born outside Alinor as inferior
@@BroadwayRonMexico Yup: - Legate Fasendil in Skyrim (Riften Imperial Camp) who's an Altmer. - Aldarch Tilcalar in ESO saying to you (if you're playing with an Altmer) that the Queen's decree has "attracted some of our wayward brethren" to their shores, and that you're still as much a foreigner as "those lizards and cats" despite your race. Although I think it would be interesting to see what the Thalmor regime would look like. If it's a totalitarian regime, mind you that most would be passive, neither overtly supporting nor resisting the regime. It's what happens generally in totalitarian states.
I actually thought the High Elven architecture in Summerset for ESO made sense considering their armor, motifs, and stuff...I mean sure there's like one or two references to insect like, crystalline this and that, but for the most part, I think it makes sense...I actually think if you look just a bit more into the architecture, it's not just Disney or Shrek or whatever, it's actually a bit more interesting than that even...you'll see big columns dotted around Aldmeri ruins on Summerset and in Alinor or Shimerene themselves you'll see the kind of slight mishmash of aesthetics where you have these high columns mixed with the very tall ornately windowed towers...I think that was the real goal of the art team was to show how Altmer architecture is sorta like that Japanese idea where a cracked pot isn't papered over to hide the gash but instead it's cherished. And of course, because they are sorta the oldest culture with written history that we know of I think and have these architectural traditions...they were trying to convey the mixture of old and new meshing together into this contradiction of being incredibly well made, incredible powerful, and incredibly dignified architecture yet also very old and at places, crumbling altogether. Maybe they could have had more of the insectoid, crystalline stuff, but I think if you look at the windows that line the towers and structures in Alinor, for example, they actually do look like little bug wings melted together into a window, it's small, but relevant I think that maybe shows the devs tried to tie in all the lore they could while emphasizing other elements of Altmer culture
100% agree. This might be unpopular opinion but personally I'm so happy they didn't make Summerset too alien looking, we already have Vvardenfell for that weird elven aesthetic. And I have to admit I'm a sucker for the art nouveau, romanesque Tolkien artstyle, I think it's so pretty and suits the high elves perfectly.
Maybe a game set there could begin with a shipwreck/sea elf attack leading to you and the ship's crew being stranded in the Somerset isles. Maybe one of the noble houses rescues you, but demands repayment through work, or maybe seeks to use your character as a pawn. This would at least give a reason for members of other races to be there.
@@ciaranmck4469 They did! They were (sort of) diplomats and much more engaged in fostering racial diversity. Here's a link to some of the eso members: elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Thalmor_(Online)
I actually love how they ended up designing Summerset in ESO and I'm happy they didn't go with the more alien "glass and insect wings" style. The art nouveau Tolkien inspiration is gorgeous. I like that people who want to play a more different or alien type of elf can make a dunmer or bosmer. Some may call the altmer generic but a lot of people really love the more "traditional" elves and I like that there is something for everyone in the game.
I get certain vibes off each of these 3 voices, and could see them playing certain roles: Scott as a teacher, a lecturer, maybe professor. Drew's voice has a calming effect, and makes me think of guided meditation videos and, coincidently, these videos also attract a certain spiritual niche crowd, so Drew would fit in as a philosopher. Michael has a young-looking face with a voice to fit and to me seems reminiscent of a student, not to discredit anyone in any particular way as a teacher is useless without the student. just my thoughts, have a good night :)
I love your content. I always listen to it on spotify but sometimes I like to watch the video. I was wondering if you could do one about wood elves and their relationship with Hircine. I've always loved the Bosmer and the god of the hunt.
High Elves/Altmer really are the best race biologically, but I’d also argue socially and technologically-magically. I started with Bretons but Altmer became my favourite thanks to their lore and impact in the story.
I don't mind the way they created Summerset in ESO. It's actually quite brilliant. Oftentimes, in real life, records of a bygone era or of foreign lands were written to seem mythical or alien, so it makes sense that outsiders who came to the Isles for the first time, were shocked by the massive spires, stained glass windows and white marbled buildings, towering over any creature and would recount their impressions more than the factual reality, using a very poetic language. Conceptually, gothic architecture was a way to "elevate man towards God", and was a massive step up from the dark, traditional and unadorned Romanic style of the early Middle Ages. Gothic by comparison was richly decorated, as tall and spacious as they could make it, had that religious significance of reaching towards God and was full of light.
I love the idea of a talos worshiping Altmer that believes he was a breton and views Talos as the combination of mer and man reobtaining their ancestral divinity.
Great discussion guys, I admit I was really looking forward to seeing ESO's Summerset Expansion do Alinor better justice too. Though I'm still glad we at least got to visit there in some capacity. I agree Hammerfell could be especially cool for TES6 in continuing the Thalmor plot and maybe seeing something similar to the Skyrim civil war there too between the Thalmor and the Redguards. It would be pretty interesting to see Bethesda better flesh out the Thalmor and The Dominion instead of just trying to hammer at players that they're not your friend, like in Skyrim.
Anyway for y'all to make an ethereal build like only conjugation weapons. Swords and bows focused. One of my favorite to play as just wanna see y'all make one and see where it goes.
I perceive each iteration of the Aldmeri Dominion vastly perpendicular to each other. The 2nd era iteration of the Aldmeri Dominion seems more cosmopolitan in attempt, but perhaps I am mistaken.
They made every move they possibly could make to hurt themselves. Their own saving grace is politically destabilizing the last 2 standing armies that could wipe them out.
Fellas, you're looking at it from a very modern perspective, the high elf clothing merchant would accept his place in society and realise he was apart of something bigger, its his duty. If their was a proper sorting process to discover where one would best fit to the need of their race, it wouldn't be as harsh as your thinking, somewhat similar to the qunari in dragon age but much more refined and civil, lol my thoughts anyway 😀
I love what Scott said, " you have to look at it as for all individuals". with the stormclocks it's all about how "Skyrim belongs to the nords" and to the nords alone, with the Thalmor it's all "high elves are superior", but with the imperials they actually stand for equality and not just for all humans but all races and (if wasn't for the white gold concordant) religious freedom!!! so keep all of this in mind when chose if you are stormclock or imperial! LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR!!!
Ok, I have to say this! Listening to you three speak, I am so awed! Your basic knowledge of history, language, sociology, is impressive. Apparently, schools there are far more capable than the ones here in the US are now. It's very disappointing to know that you three outshine probably 1000 or more people your age here. Dude, those Elves are totally high! Look at the red eyes!

Two sides of a coin, two ends of the Aurbillical cord.
I mean apparently the greatest of Lorkhan’s champions have been dragonborn
@@GhostShadow1030 this is true to an extent as there were possibly other Shezzarine who weren't Dragonborn, like Zurin Arctus, but what I mean is also in the sense that if Lorkhan and Aka are opposites what does that mean, as Aka is time then Lorkhan has to be space, which means both together represent Space-Time, which means they possibly are not necessarily opposed to each other, as also some Dragonborn are Shezzarine like Hjalti(Tiber Septim) and Ysmir Wulfharth.

I remember my buddy suggesting the inspiration behind the high elves was a mix between Imperial Japan and the British Empire.
What do you guys think?
Maybe the British Empire when they still valued their North German roots (which is a bit weird considering their ruling class is Norse-French but w/e).
I think that's a good comparison but I also a bit ancient china can be attributed to the High Elves with them inventing many things that are found in Tamriel like most schools of magic, much like China inventing fireworks or gunpowder in ancient times.
fascist Italy and nazi Germany with a mix of England and Japan for sure

YESSSSSS IM HERE FOR ALTMER CONTENT!!! THEY NEVER GET ANY LOVE
I just love you guys. You’ve really introduced and given me my first fan base to be a part of - which was important during 2020. I started watching around Covid time and began playing Skyrim for the first time because of your influence.
I love how neither drew or Michael reacted to Scott’s phone. Nor his hilarious reaction😂😂😂 I love the elder scrolls podcast keep it up guys
I lied drew smiled but didn’t make a big deal out of it but it was just too funny to me XD
Honestly i think an empire under the Bosmer would be pretty nice, even though they wouldn't want to expand beyond the Valenwood. But they have a very relaxed view of life, they care about the enviornment, and if you neighbor pisses you off you can just eat them.
Drew’s voice is so relaxing... Glad I stumbled onto this
This would have made a great 4/20 podcast
I wish eso implemented goblin more in summerset. That could have been a really cool dynamic
I bet the Skyrim-only players are all really confused by the strange pointed sticks that those guys in the middle are holding.
Not only Skyrim, Oblivion also had a sad lack of spears. When Skywind releases my first character will wield a spear (I never played Morrowind)
They're holding them wrong, better send them to the rieklings to learn how to use them.
Isn't Morrowind the only game with polearms?
Bwahahahaha!!
But TES didn’t invent spears…
I always saw the high elves weakness to magic as an indicator that their bodies were highly absorbant to magic energies making them regenerate magic faster but also making it easier for hostile magic to affect them.
I love that you all laughed at the do do thing. You guys are truly my people
Awe man if only I could be a part of the podcast. You guys have educated so many fans including myself to finally understanding the world of Nirn, and now I’m more into Skyrim’s roleplaying then ever before!

@@Jamesfrf Oh have a nice day at work !
I'd also like to be able to fight the Thalmor as a High Elf and for it to canonically make more sense too.
lmao that would be hilarious
It already would make sense canonically though. The Night of Green Flames was a massacre of dissident anti-Thalmor Altmer refugees in Hammerfell by Thalmor spies. A lot of Altmer would have lost loved ones in that attack. The Thalmor also view Altmer born outside Alinor as inferior
@@BroadwayRonMexico Yup:
- Legate Fasendil in Skyrim (Riften Imperial Camp) who's an Altmer.
You guys did a very good job on the intro! It is amazing and makes me want to play all of the elder scrolls!!!
I think that ESO Thalmor would view 4E Skyrim Thalmor as a disgrace
Eso didn't have thalmor but I understand what you mean
In ESO they recently gave extra vulnerability to light armor users. Listening to the history of magicka vulnerability, it makes more sense now!
You guys should do a podcast episode on Bretons
Scott's Hair gets more and more ESO like the more these podcasts come out
Great perspectives on the high elves thanks for the discussion
High Elves/Altmer really are the best race biologically, but I’d also argue socially and technologically-magically. I started with Bretons but Altmer became my favourite thanks to their lore and impact in the story.
Really enjoy all your vids. Using some of this information to create a Pathfinder table top.
Great work again Daedric gods of knowledge and awesomeness. Killing at as always and loving the content per usual.
Y'all should talk about Peryite next week
Great discussion guys, I admit I was really looking forward to seeing ESO's Summerset Expansion do Alinor better justice too. Though I'm still glad we at least got to visit there in some capacity. I agree Hammerfell could be especially cool for TES6 in continuing the Thalmor plot and maybe seeing something similar to the Skyrim civil war there too between the Thalmor and the Redguards. It would be pretty interesting to see Bethesda better flesh out the Thalmor and The Dominion instead of just trying to hammer at players that they're not your friend, like in Skyrim.
Maybe the first altmer humans have encountered were high, hence calling them `High` Elves
Anyway for y'all to make an ethereal build like only conjugation weapons. Swords and bows focused. One of my favorite to play as just wanna see y'all make one and see where it goes.
