I'm not going to deny Chester Bennington his modesty after his passing. He said he wanted Linkin Park to be bigger than any of their individual personalities. I'm not going to throw away my support for the band he loved. It's what he wanted from us, and he said it himself.

i think ppl fail to understand that in that day, Mike and the guys lost way more than we, as fans, did. They lost not only their best friend, they lost their lifelong project and their job. When it happened, i remember not only being really worried about Mike and the guys, i remember being angry at Chester for it (dont judge me, is part of the process). When the first Mike solo songs that came out, especially the music video of Over Again, also made me really sad and heartroken, bc it was clear mike was struggling. So like seeing Mike playing the LP songs again, seeing how happy he is means the world to me and for that i will always be grateful for Emily and Collin for accepting this challenge and the guys for being back. Having the chance of hearing new stuff from them, the idea of seeing them on concert again makes me so happy, bc LP is such a huge part of my life.
But the truth is that LP's fans have always been also their biggest haters and we all can agree that all the hate OML got was really damaging to Chester. Im not gonna say is THE reason, but it was heavy on him and it breaks my heart that he dealt with all of that hate, probably from the same people that are whining now. These people are not Chester fans, neither LP fans. These people are Hybrid Theory and Meteora fans and thats it, bc they only care about these two first albuns and still cling into it. And dont matter what they chose, this people would be angry and be haters, so im grateful that once again, the band chose their path regardless of what people would say
Also Chester's mom................... sorry, but with everything Chester dealt with in his childhood, her opinion doesnt really matter to me. I know it may be judgmental and Chester maybe had a good relationship with her, but I feel like is really ugly how his family is trying to have a spotlight on this. I mean they are allowed to their opinion and their pain, but it feels very toxic how they chose to act on it

you all sound so weird tbh. As if there's a rule that says everything needs a reboot, a"fresh start". No, LP was one of those bands that gave us a special feeling, listening to their songs is like awakening your core memory. It ended with Chester and honestly, even despite the trauma he gave everyone including his kids, he left at the right time. Modern times would not have suited him. I can't imagine him giving stupid trendy interviews, pretending to be a nice guy in front of too many new faces in the entertainment industry, and he himself probably couldn't find his place in a world that had turned into an asylum. Mike fits in pretty good cause he doesn't have the rebellious spirit, he's open to literally everything and he CAN smile to everyone. Not every corpse needs to be kicked, if you want a fresh start you should've asked him to create another band.

Chester will always be remembered and missed, coz he was one of a kind, nobody can't replace his place and memories... And like Mike said, Emily is one of a kind too, she's not replacing Chester, she just continues the legacy of Linkin Park. Yeah, Chester is not here anymore, but the band is still here and supported by many fans. I've been listening to them since the Hybrid Theory album, and have been supporting them till now... It is good to see Mike, Hahn, Phoenix, and Brad are happily performing again (I do miss Rob too, but I respect his decision to leave the band too, as long as he is happy with his path)... I don't know how you can blame Mike for moving on and forgetting, after everything he expressed about Chester's death. maybe those people never lost anyone in their life and don't quite understand how it feels to be the one who stayed, when the other one is gone forever.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness and maturity about this situation. There has been way too much hate and divisiveness lately, and with the presidential election coming up, its getting worse each day. We are all humans with the same basic needs and desires, yet we focus on the differences and close our minds to understanding. The part of this that hurts the most is that its happening in a community that shares a love for Chester as well as the rest of Linkin Park. How did we let drama and hate corrupt Chester's memory? When did we start thinking Chester would endorse such hurtful and divisive words towards his friends? I understand the hurt of losing a loved one. My mother died when I was 25, and it still hurts. I've even watched as my father remarried a few years later. I didn't think it was an attack on my mothers memory. My father still has a life to live, and hopefully, a long one. I don't want him to finish that journey alone. I'm just happy that someone else can make him smile again. Linkin Park will never be the same, but they are still here, and now they can smile again. Lets be happy for that.

I feel bad for Mike. he is damned on all fronts. When he releases solo material and played his solo gigs he was criticised by Chester’s relatives for exploiting grief. Now he has reunited LP and he is still being dogged by Chester’s relatives and ‘fans’ but it goes deeper like any new material he releases that sounds even vaguely LP like there is an AI Chester cover posted within seconds which must be horrific because it seems like for some people Mike is never going to be enough even performing his own songs. This even goes for songs like still alive. I get why people want to hear Chester but they are so possessive of what they think Mike and LP should do. Its unreasonable.

That is antithetical to everything we know about him, and it’s the most disrespectful thing they could do to his memory. Thank you for the video. I am glad that there is someone on UA-cam who is talking about this calmly. I agree that only the members of LP, only artists who live doing music have right to decide their own fate. Nor their relatives. Friends. Friends relatives. Or fans.
Thinking a lot about LP return and the split between fans about should Emily sing old songs or not, I realized how these songs were already alienated from the band many years ago. Sure, we all got used listening to LP with Chester voice, his manner, his personality which helped us to address our own feelings through LP music, channel our sadness, rage, and helplessness. The old LP music accumulated so many energy of listeners who went through rough times with LP on repeat, like if these songs already belong to the audience as a specific folklore, and to nobody separately including the band itself.
For old fans who are deeply connected to old songs through their experience, hearing Emily voice may even wound the ego. For some of them, the return of LF could be even terrifying: the fact that life won’t stop if someone you feel to be related with very much (like Chester) disappears. It wounds because you feel that the same could happen to you. Realizing that people around you won’t stop living their lives if you go away, and your inheritance won’t be buried together with you really hurts. Life will go on when we die. Damn. How unfair is that for little egoists like us?
As for myself, I am happy that Mike’s and other LP guys life is going. I am ready for new songs (and new reactions) and old ones together with Emily, because she has the same right to sing them as everybody else in the world. If she joined the band, it only means, that she is cool enough to make new music and have fun together with the band on the stage. Good luck to them!

I will always have a special place in my heart for Chester, but what we need to remember is that Linkin Park (formerly Xero and Hybrid Theory) was founded by Mike and Brad. I was 11 years old when I first heard Crawling back when the Hybrid Theory album released, and I've been there ever since. I can't tell you how flippin' happy it made me to see that man genuinely smiling again at the livestream and doing what he devoted his whole being and self to. Chester will always be remembered and always be a part of Linkin Park, but I am more than happy to see them continue and set out on this new journey with Emily and Colin as part of the new lineup. Mike, Brad, Joe, Rob, and Dave have grieved, and Rob left on good terms with the guys. This isn't replacing Chester or trying to forget him. One day, Chester sang-or rather, screamed-the phrase: ‘I may end up failing too… But I know… You were just like me, with someone disappointed in you!!!’ I didn’t understand this line at the time, but now, when Emily screams it, it feels like a revelation. There are so many different meanings hidden in that phrase.
It’s hard for me to say this, but the more hate I hear directed at my favorite band, Mike and the girl who, in some way, has revived this band for all of us-allowed us to relive these emotions, this euphoria-the more I want to forget everything old and listen to the songs only performed by Emily, including the old ones. I don’t know why. The world is already full of crap. I don’t understand why all these people are trying to take away these pleasant emotions and leave only the bad ones behind. You can’t be this cruel and selfish. Chester would never have approved of such behavior.
Thank you for this video. I agree with what you’re saying. Maybe someone will listen closely and draw conclusions.

Thank you for this calm, insightful, grounded and MATURE perspective on this situation.
The vitriolic response of some fans has really thrown a light on the fact that many of these people are not yet emotionally mature enough to move through the grief process towards acceptance. We also need to remember that Jamie is very young, and before the age of 25 the prefrontal cortex is not done developing, and you still tend to think everything is about you and you're still very emotionally reactive. You can't interact with someone when they're still very set on being in that place, and they're just looking for reasons to make everyone else the bad guy. Mike is older and wiser, and he seems to have come to acceptance, and I assume the rest of the band as well. There is a 6th step to the grieving process, and it is 'Making new things again.' I'm beyond pleased to see my childhood heroes thriving again.

I feel for them all and of course anyone who was close to Chester. I miss Chester so much, but we have to move on. The band need to move on. No one will ever be Chester, sing like Chester, scream like Chester, laugh like Chester, smile like Chester, joke like Chester. There is no replacing Chester. And I think in my opinion Mike, Brad, Dave, Joe and Rob know know no one can ever be Chester in any of the above. But they love what they do. They have had 7 years and are still probably grieving but feel it's time to carry on and do what they love. Which is music, making us happy, making them happy . A-fricken-men brother. You managed to put words to my feelings on all of this. One thing I can add is Mike has always been there for the fans. When he put out Post Traumatic he wasn't just putting his feelings into a song, he was sharing his own grief with us and was taking the grieving fans by the hand and helping guide them through that grief and show them that they weren't alone. What artist has done something that brave and honest? Because I can't think of one. I'm so happy to see the band back and doing what they love. My single favorite moment from the first live show wasn't the new song, it wasn't the reveal of Emily (who i think is an amazing fit for the band btw), it wasn't even them playing the LP classics. It was at the begging of Papercut when the camera focuses on Mike and you see him smiling and jumping around and getting hyped with the fans. That was the moment that solidified in my mind that this is right, this is what the band needed and this is what we've waited seven years for.

Secondly, everywhere I go (in relation to the band), people bring up Chester. Of course, people can pay respect, and I never want to take away that right; but it must be so hard for the band to be constantly reminded of old wounds. Mike seems to get uncomfortable in interview questions, which bring up Chester, and I think he would just want closure and be able to move on.

As a die hard Linkin Park fan since the release of Hybrid Theory, there isn't a day goes by where I don't not listen to them. I have seen them in concert so many times. We were connected to the band because of the resonance and for some, life experiences they could relate to in the music and lyrics, which is why fans held Chester in their hearts because they didn't feel alone. Out of all the bands I love, I have never seen or felt a band with the depth of loyalty as the LP fan base. You see it with the amount of social media posts of the band, 400 people standing in a field singing and playing at the top of their voices, to show their love and respect to Chester and remind the remaining members, that although they didn't personally know Chester, the fans are still here showing love and support in the only way they can.
I was apprehensive when I heard they were reforming...no male singer would ever replace but would continually compared to Chester. When I first heard the song it's definitely an LP song...vocals aside, it just vibes the LP we were familiar with. Emily isn't Chester, never will be but I thought lets give her a chance. Then the backlash started.
I have just listened to your view and have say, it is without doubt, the most balanced perspective I have listened to and given some fans something to think about. You were thoughtful with your words, respectful and articulated a point of view that some fans may not have considered. Please keep doing posts/videos like this, because it was just great...and with this subject topic, so important to listen and watch a levelled and thoughtful perspective, which will give some the opportunity to reflect on what you articulated. Between Chester's son and his mom you'd think the band was called the Chester Bennington experience and not Linkin park. In all seriousness what about mike's mental health he had his job/creative outlet taken away from him through no fault of his own, the fans saying "they should have renamed" have they not thought that doing it under the banner linkin park is what's giving mike the headspace/strength necessary to carry on. I ran into Mike in LA at a massive attack show from what I remember it was just a conversation between two music fans as massive attack were setting their stage up (my wife is American I'm from Bristol- i grew up in the british trip hop/dance/indie music scene so although id heard of linkin park don't ask me to name the members), first I realised he was anything important was when my wife comes back and asks "you want to get a picture with mike?" It was the zero ego of that encounter that made me a fan of his.

I keep watching the livestream concert and seeing him smile literally all the time fills me with so much joy I literally cannot contain.
I didn’t even need to listen to Post Traumatic to understand this man was dealing with the indescribable, and he’s had to do it in public too. I only listened to Place to Start and What The Words Meant and couldn’t listen to anything else. It was just too painful then, and maybe I’ll be able to listen to the whole thing now, but it might still be too much for me. I just can imagine what Mike and the other guys were going through and what thoughts and feelings they’ve had to deal with, and that’s enough for me to think all fans owe the band members kindness, respect and grace especially now. Because this moment is glorious to witness, but it’s a delicate moment too. It’s delicate for them too. And if people don’t want to be kind that’s fine, they can just shut up then. Great video. You've summed up a lot of my very same thoughts. The band deserves to continue. They ALL built their legacy together. They didn't choose to lose Chester and shouldn't have to keep paying the price for it. The pain they felt from his loss was grander than any of us as fans could have felt. The fans kept asking the band what'd they'd do in the wake of Chester's death, to which the band wasn't even thinking about that then. SEVEN years later, they've returned and "fans" are mad at them.
Chester was a PART of the band, he was not THE band. Mike poured his heart out after that loss and now fans, whom I'm guessing did not follow anything from Post Traumatic, are now calling Mike heartless. He is a human. He grieved. He and the rest of the guys deserve to move on.

Got scared, thought this was a hit piece - refreshing to hear such a compassionate take with all the context. There's no CORRECT way to react to suicide, especially of such a close friend of so many years... And Mike has stated he doesn't like to show emotion. I don't think I've seen the guy cry or whimper once since he was launched into stardom of 20 years ago. PT is a beautiful, raw album with lots of painful, ugly truths that come with losing someone. It's a rollercoaster of emotion.
When I say, the smile on Mike's face on stage now - nearly a decade after Chester's passing, mind you - is insanely wonderful to see... and not just him, in any live photo you can see Joe and Phoenix are absolutely in the zone, and Brad in the BTS footage looks just as enthusiastic as ever! And regardless of how you feel about Emily (and Colin and even Alex), the band clearly feels comfortable with them... "It's not about the talent, it's about the person." Mike meant, they needed that natural chemistry, not just as musicians, but as people. It's okay to not like the new sound, but to me, if they're comfortable and are having a good time, I'm happy. What they're doing is NOT EASY! And for that I have major respect and love.

8:42 exactly that. Sums it up.
Why would anyone expect the left friends to grief forever and ever?
It's like one being the emotional slave of the other.
They were a band together and not a Chester Bennington disciples combo.
And seeing Mike coming out of the grief's ashes is so enlightening, like he got new power from processing the loss of a best friend.

I really appreciate you putting this out, i know it's likey the vocal minority thing but there has been was to much toxicity around lp coming back. I'm on the side of being super excited and can't believe they are back, i know it'll be different but different is ok! We all loved Chester but whatever happens going forward won't change his legacy in music.

I hope the band find some solace with the positive reaction they have received by a lot of people. And specially seeing videos from the live gigs, the energy from the crowd seems so good. People did the same thing when they released 'One More Light' Chester said that people didn't like the album, but when they performed it live people liked it (I am paraphrasing). I just think people hating on them, then and now; are not real fans.

Not to mention the anger you feel, betrayed by someone who did that, you start looking for answers as to why, the guilt of not being to save them when it mattered most, and trying to finding the answers of why and trying wrap your head around that it wasn't about you but about them and finding a way to move on and recover from everything. for the first few years you blame yourself and then them but the final step is learning to forgive them and understanding. the feeling you get from that is beyond anything you can imagine and realizing that you are finally at peace with them.

I think what also gets lost in all of this, is what would Chester want? He would 100 percent want his good friends to keep going in their musical endeavors. He wasnt a selfish egotistical person. And people saying its disrespectful to Chester just kills me bc that wasnt him!! He would be saying ya brothers keep on keeping on

People throwing hate toward the band and Mike for wanting to find a way forward in their lives, are not Linkin Park fans, nor are they human beings capable of empathy, understanding, maturity or growth. They’re only Chester Bennington fans, and as much as I too love Chester and hate that we lost him, I struggle each day with that loss, I’m a fan of the band, each member, the entirety, and I’m excited to see this evolution and step forward for each of them, they deserve that and for those wanting them to sit in their grief forever to appease your own endless well of grief and hatred, that is not their issue it’s yours and I’d urge you to work on that. They had a chance to come back to life, don’t deny that for them.

Halfway through this. This is the absolute correct and only take to have on the situation. I can’t wrap my head around ‘fans’ having any other opinion on the situation. Even the video of the guy (well meaning) saying to Emily “you made Chester proud”. Just stop beating them all over the head with it. It’s a difficult process for all the members returning to performing without having that weight thrown at them. We miss Chester, there will never be anyone like him. This however, is still Linkin Park. I can’t wait to see them tomorrow night

LP had 7 years to mourn his death, Chester was an unbelievable talent with a terrific voice and will always be a part of LP, but the band did absolutely the right thing by moving on and getting back to doing what they love. The move to a female vocalist was also the right move, that meant Chester wouldnt be replaced (afterall it'd be an impossible shoe to fill). Emily is an amazing vocalist, she is growing with every performance, and I'm so very happy for LP, one of the bands I adore since my teenage years.

Other thing people seem to not realize, Linkin Park is not Chester Bennington, Linkin Park is Linkin Park, they have every right to get back at being Linkin Park after a tragic death of a band member. Chester himself wouldve wanted the band, his friends, to move on and make him proud.

I just don't know if Emily was the right choice for a new singer... There's a chance she's a scientologist, and scientologists don't believe in mental health or therapy... If she actually IS a scientologist, I would think having her as the new lead singer would be incredibly disrespectful to Chester, since Scientology goes against everything Chester stood for. Will we ever find out if she is actually still a scientologist? Probably not

@@anakinlowground5515 One thing I'm sure, before she joined LP, there was a vetting process and, even though there was an involvement with scientology in the past, that's most likely not the case now.

If you think about it the band took a 7 year long break to grieve over Chester's death and Linkin Park recently before they went live again was fading and some people just stopped listening until 2023 when they released a bunch of unrealesed songs and demos of songs from meteora that Chester sings and when they went they went live again and made new songs millions of people started to listen to Linkin Park again and new listeners to hear Chester Bennington singing and keeping his legacy alive.

I have been a fan since the beginning. We all loved Chester, but also the band. When he did Dead Before Sunrise, there was this fear that LP was done and we would never hear them again. But of course they came back. When Chester passes away, that feeling was here again of never seeing the band ever again. I was at the LA Forum show. As Mike introduced the band, he introduced new members as replacements for the Drummer and Guitarist. But for Chester he said "All of you". Emily was not the replacement. It was a moment of celebration for Chester. LPv2. Is Emily. She is amazing. Chester will always be missed and remembered. Happy to see Mike and the band back😊

Thank you for this video! I agree with everything you are saying. Mike doesn’t deserve all the hate and backlash. He just wanted to reunite the band back together again and be able to tour for new LP fans while bringing the og fans back as well. In addition, the Post Traumatic album is such a phenomenal album with poignant meanings and lyrics that can help individuals connect with the music. Chester will never be forgotten ❤ but as LP fans we got to embrace change and accept Emily Armstrong as a person to the band. Awesome video! ♾️/10 🔥🔥

I'm not at all saying that LP doesn't deserve to get out there and do their thing, they absolutely do. I just think they should've been a lot more cautious about how they did it and maybe also considered the world’s reaction to Emily’s connection to Scientology. Now I do agree that Emily was given a hard and unfair start and that someone’s past shouldn't always muddy their current life but I can't blame people for not liking her all things considered. She never denounced Scientology either which damn her if she does and damn her if she doesn't because. The church will come for her if she does but fans will continue to hate her if she doesn't. The other thing to is that if everything Jamie and the rest of Chester’s family is saying is true, unless Mike comes out and nips it all in the bud you really cannot blame people for hating the band, including Mike for everything going on.

I had saw a clip from Mike's stream where someone asked what he would do if he could go back in time, and the question itself is geared towards something specific to change(being there for Chester) and I remember thinking "leave him alone omg, I'm sure he's already had these thoughts and Mike doesn't need to be constantly reminded every single day. He must go through that enough on his own to begin with". Ik not everyone would ask those types of questions with malice or hate, just curiosity, but like have some awareness of what you're asking him.

Thank you for bringing up Post Traumatic album. Even Mike himself forgot he did a tour on that album (he reacted to Zane's question about Post Traumatic album in Apple Music From Zero album interview). I've always loved Linkin Park and my idol for me is Mike Shinoda. Still I got devastated by the lost of Chester, he was one of a kind, but dude, suddenly Mike and the rest of the band is out of the equation. All I see was the fans claiming they were the most damaged people in the world. Man I understand it was denial at its best back then, but now please take a grip on reality, the band experienced much more unreal feelings than the rest of us. I'm so glad you bring this up. I thought I was alone giving more empathy to the band and especially to Mike. Subscribed.

Like I said, people are just stuck in the past and need to realize that holding onto the past might sometimes hurt you in the long run. That's why I like the direction where LP is going now, something new, something fresh cause its been 7 years since Chester's passing, ik its hard for me but this is how it is going to be, we can't stay in the past forever and honestly, the new changes I like it a lot.
All I want is for the band to fall into the same drama they are enduring. Plus its been two weeks, not even a month.

I've been a fan since Hybrid Theory and my dad actually knew Joseph Hahn when they were kids.. years later i was able to meet Joseph Hahn and he signed my HT album.. I've been listening to LP since I was about 5-6 years old and they are the reason why I love music today. I am still processing LP returning, but I'm not mad at them for moving on. In my opinion I think LP ended in 2017 when Chester passed away, but I'm also happy for LP returning. There's no way I can hate on Mike or any of the members for moving on. Even if I haven't moved on as a fan, I'm still happy for them and I am excited to hear the new album. I feel like a lot of fans are picking sides so quickly, either hating the new LP or being excited for their return. I am in the middle ground and still not ready as a fan to have LP come back, but it's been 7 years, my god. We need to let people move on even if I feel confused about it.

Honestly, after seeing him make the Post-Traumatic album, the man was broken, hurt, defeated, going through the worst feelings a person can experience, there is no way anyone can say this is any sort of hasty decision or intent to replace Chester. People really need to understand that trying to move past pain to make people - themselves being a big part of that - happy is okay, and isn't 'trying to erase Chester'

When I saw the LA show, it was amazing to see Mike happy again. All these people talking about Emily Armstrong and scientology, and a new drummer and such, they are under the assumption it seems that Chester was the only one in the band. Sure, mourning Chester is okay, but I think it gets to the point where these people mad about Linkin Park coming back is terrible for the simple fact that the band moved on is not how people should be reacting to a legacy.
