Last Trail! From Truckee up through Fordyce Creek Trail - Ultimate Adventure 2016

- Part 5 of Ultimate Adventure 2016. You often save the best for last. In the case of Ultimate Adventure, you save the most challenging for last…which in our minds is the best. So, technically we’re still saving the best for last. We left Truckee, California, the morning of Day 6 and wound our way past Donner Lake and up through Donner Pass….with plenty of food in the coolers. After topping the tanks and airing down, we nosed into the last trail of UA2016. And what a last trail the Fordyce Creek Trail turned out to be! It starts out pretty slow and mellow, but before long the scenery and terrain become exponentially more incredible. Big winch hills and deep water crossings are this trail’s forte. And before the sun fell on our first day on Fordyce Creek Trail, we’d nearly laid several rigs on their sides, overheated some, and left a bunch of rubber on rocks. Skinny pedal throttle action anybody? Good, because it’s here. On Day 7, we awoke next to a rushing river at Committee Crossing before wading through to the other side and breaking some parts. Nobody get out of UA without some kind of malady. Whether it’s a blown up engine, fragged axleshafts, dented sheetmetal, or even a stubbed toe, carnage is the word of the day. And this year’s UA was no exception. See if you favorite rig makes it out alive. For more action, videos, pictures check out www.4wor-ua.com.

Damn, either Fred is one of the best offroaders, or his jeep is really well setup. He makes every obstacle look easy.
The Metal Butcher yeah that jeep is seriously built, you can watch the build on dirt every day
Fred is also a really experienced driver. Watch some of his other videos and pay attention to his throttle and brake control. There was a clip where he popped up over a feature and in the air already had his tires stopped so he wouldn't go anywhere at the top.
The Metal Butcher he is a really good driver too
I agree with everyone but that jeep it's built just about perfect for that trip
I figured the tube buggies would have them beat due to the weight and sus travel advantage but apparently not. Seems like he was the only one to think of a real radiator, I don't remember him having any overheating problems even with the most powerful engine.
sorry for all of you out there that had to hear me rapping. I get a little excited sometimes..
David C. I liked where you went with it. Also, the hilux is awesome man, that low center of gravity is rad.
It's okay dirthead Dave it's understandable
The hilux looks rad the way it’s setup on those tires.
We're gettin good grip from the 50 series tires
The Alpine's bumpin but I need the volume higher
'Cause the 808 kick drum makes the girlies get dumb
💪😁🤘 should I be ashamed I can ID the song? 🤔😂
Did you get stuff back that fell out the back?
willys pickup and the 75 cherokee were easily the most beautiful of this trip
Joe Seabuhr Srry, it was not prettiest but best rig after Fred's 49 CJ is definitely Durham's 2010 "on the skids" JK with the TJ high belly. That's become my favorite Jeep of all time this past year. It can crawl anything.
My scout camp was just up the mountain from Fordyce.
Ive hiked the entire trail and summited Old Man Mountain (peak that overlooks Fordyce Lake)
Absolutely humbling and beautiful terrain.
and the farther in the trail you go,the better the scenery, the more challenging the obstacles, and the more we can present you the bubba rope the falken tire and the warn winch
BRING BACK RICK!!! Badass driving dirt heads you two made it look easy.
Man.... Fred's jeep is a beast. It's made every obstacle look like a walk in the park so far
I don't see why you all are complaining about the sponsors, it's free and thats why. Keep complaining and even this will be on-demand.
advertisers spend billions and billions to push their products. all adding to the price we pay for them. often making unproven claims. as consumers we have the power to control this but most consumers are unwilling to give up their phone, internet , cars, or whatever. for example if a large enough percentage of customers cancelled their cable service the provider would be at our mercy. and once other customers saw what was accomplished the strategy could snowball
Awesome Off Road Adventure......Great Band of Brothers from all across the country working together.....
Enjoyed watching these videos all this week. Such a cool event! Looks like a great time.
That Hilux is awesome!
Air springs in front! And the rear? Are there any videos of this build?
That F250 single cab is bad ass
This is the best ep. yet! Keep it up guys!
Damn, Falken winches are really great!
Sweet trip. Loved the camping spots.
Another great series boys!!!
thanks guys, looking forward to see this
I love Dave's lil Hilux and Verne's Williys. Cooper's Grand Cherokee is also sweet but likes to get stuck it seems. Looked like a fun trip with beautiful trails.
Yep, jealous and glad it went well for you folks
great video. sure beats reading the adventure in a magazine before we got u tube. I use to pray the mag came with a DVD lol
Fantastic video!
One thing that really got me was those flags dragging the ground almost every obstacle...😬
That looked like a fun trip - challenging, but not as much like torture as previous Ultimate Adventures.
Félicitations pour ce magnifique montage vidéo et merci pour le partage
15:38 "More Cowbell!" i died lmao
That looked like a great time. I am jealous
A suggestion for next time, take some big cargo nets to cover your gear. Will save you having to pick it all back up after the bouncy rocks :D
Go Go Go 85 Chevy truck.... Make us square body's proud.
Did you see the damage fred and him did to that Square body on Cheap Truck Challenge It was sacrilege cut it up and then intentionally smashed it . The liberty deserved what it got just not that mint chevy
Fred wasn't the one who cut up that body, that was the opposing team.
ChrisHallett83 Yea and?
ChrisHallett83 go fuck yourself
I live about 50 miles west of this gig. How in hell did you guys manage to get away with having that much fun without a tribe of red legged tree huggers blocking the roads, chaining themselves to your rock crawlers, and whining about your carbon foot print ???
I'm jealous... :)
Their Subarus can't make it to the trail head, plus there isn't a Starbucks for miles and miles for them to refuel!
😂
Chris D in that 2010 wrangler is sick !!!
does anybody know what brand of string cheese they had? really shameful they aren't sharing that info
Take them flags of the back of that jeep they are touching the ground
cherokee ronnie they were also it the water
Cherokee Ronnie I said the exact same thing!
yea should probably just set them on fire to shorten them up a little
First thing that caught my eye at 2:02 in the video. I agree 100%! Love when folks fly the flag - just please protect it and if they need to, get a smaller version. Scott
The 2017 UA videos come out tomorrow and i hope i dont see more of this shit. Its disrespectful as fuck
Have you guys thought about or tried a 360 camera on top of a rig? I think it would give places like Fordyce an amazing look.
beautiful nature there
Watson’s squarebody is awesome!
I drive a GMC and normally not a Ford fan but was anyone else as impressed I was with that F250 as I was. I liked watching the big trucks bang through those trails. I'm also installing that edelbrock efi on a 79 CJ and just wanted to know what you guys that own it thought of it even though it needed a repair.
No big dangerous rocks in Florida?
We have lots of them, way too many.
Most are in cars from Michigan, New Jersey and Ontario.
Feel free to come take some home with you.
Sir Mix-A-Lot is going to be asking for royalties from that Posse on Broadway remix. XD
One day I will get out there. Looks like fun!
Good footage and it looked like everyone had a great time. Please protect the flags and don't let them touch the ground. Scott
I just want to know when MT is going to rerun/recreate the 1978 Jeep Expedition of the Americas
Can't wait for 2017
Ultimate adventure 2017 in the snow?
nope, it went through northern Arizona a month or so ago. I was fortunate enough to see a couple of the trucks in payson including the double front end orange jeep.
I guess then 2018 should be in the snow
Oil
statement about florida having no rocks is so true
Holy forced sponsor plugging batman.
Yeah it's almost as if they're trying to pay for the free content they give you or something
Somebody has to pay the bills. I'm here to watch the rigs and the scenery. I don't care about the shameless plugs...............it's much more subtle than NASCAR.
I'm perfectly willing to hear about products from sponsors who support the hobby/lifestyle. its the circle of life. we get great content/aftermarket support...in turn I'm perfectly happy to hear about these companies and if i have a choice between two products, I might be more inclined to purchase from a co. who puts money back into the hobby.
Awesome review
So I basically need to buy SkyJacker, BubbaRope, Warn Wenches and Falken Tires!
The videos from UA 2015 seemed so much better. Feels like this year was a little rushed or something
Dabs&OSRS all the videos look a little rushed these days. they have too many series on the go. and they put more focus on the pay to view stuff. all the hosts seem to be trying less hard no as well. going down hill fast
Yea that actually is so true the more you think about it.Corey Langan
It was way better with Rick pewe
The last day was by far the most entertaining
love the old yellow toyota.
I can't put my finger on it but this year, it wasn't as exciting to watch. I mean, you guys hit some of the greatest trails, but the videos were pretty lame. Maybe it was just a leadership void. But hey, I continue to watch your content because you guys usually do a really good job.
So cool. so jealous.
this trail is so cool. would love to do it someday. How has California not outlawed driving across a creek? I am surprise they let you wheel down there at all
We fight VERY hard to keep our trails open. They are not open by chance. CA4WD and other clubs do a lot to allow us to wheel here.
Good for you guys. I will check that out.
Expert here (of the chair variety). the banks are rocky and and the river flows fast/deep enough that erosion isnt as much of a factor on these crossings.
If Fred was still the host I feel like this years UA would be better
I'd love to see a lot more extended wheeling footage rather than just short clips
damn that little toyota was still killing it even with the big boys
Anyone else notice the Skyjacker JK was running FOX shocks?!?!?! Hilarious!!
There's nothing like a jeep period.
shout out to the man Chris Durham. now that guy is a driver. He didnt try and take the easy route like a bunch others.
I don't know what you would have done without your warn winches Falken tires and Bubba ropes
The f 250 is my favorite rig wAtch the build its a cool truck
amazing
Video Production Note:
Watched all 5 episodes.. And while the narration and videography were slightly above average, it would be really great to get a GoPro in the cockpit to get driver reactions.
Maybe even some multicam clips with cameras attached to a vehicle for a unique perspective while going over an obstacle.
Great job!
3:30 am? sounds like a perfect time to release another video lol
Philip Gragg you overlook that it was probably midnight-1am West coast , last night out in boonies , get plastered once in Reno at party then recall ," sh*t the upload!" ,edit on the fly in hotel room then post to UA-cam.= 3:30am sounds reasonable....
Hey guys I seemed to miss the brand of the winch.what brand was it again?
Warn winch
Well I made it till 13;08, that's it---Chapelle did it for me with his rap about 'Falcons' or something like that.
Not the only Rasmussen on the trail nice
It'd be sweet to see a land rover among next years vehicles
I must say ,2016 was a cr*ppy year with 2 big exceptions; the Cubs won WS and this was the best ( from viewer pov) Ultimate Adventure I've watched video of. I enjoyed this very much. Nice job all participants. I honestly feel I would fit in with this bunch and be an asset to the group. Whatta I have to do to try and get in on 2017 UV? Fred Williams ( we are related by last name ) if you read this , let me know ! 👍🏻
No Rick Pewe, today was a good day.
They didnt even get to the hard stuff, fordyce is fun past committee!
12:55 Sick Flows
I like how sensitive the Closed Captioning is that it (beep)s cuss words when you guys say em
Nice that you guys got THE spot to camp on the trail, I love that spot. Why did you take the out at Committee Crossing instead of running the whole trail?!?
Time contraints suck, I understand. Hope you guys had fun at that camp spot. That spot is second only to the spot at Grouse Lake on Swamp route.
What kinda rope are they using they didn't mention it very much
lol
Buba rope
You guys should check out Hell hole trail, CA. I haven't finished it yet but it is also nasty, fun, with lots of views.
Damn that shit looks fun! Whooo Buddy!
awesome
That yota has the look, but i don't know if I could ever go that small...
it looks like its on 40's....so damn capable, add a v8 and......
TheJonny2you The issue is the bed size. Couldn't hold a sheet of plywood, and couldn't haul heavy stuff (or a motorcycle). My truck sucks, but at least I can carry whatever I want.
BenLeBlanc1 he bobbed the bed. The standard bed could carry your plywood way easier than the jeeps or caged bed trucks
Old hiluxes have some of the biggest beds you can get. Modern supercabs have tiny short beds.
thing looks sweet though, i saw he linked it and it has air bag suspension. adjustable stiffness and ride height. really quite different and didnt do half bad.
remind me who is the tyre sponsor ?
Phantom309 you're being silly, right ? Falken plastered all over everything not revealing enough? Heh
it's Nitto.
Cooper Tires. Wait... Wrong show. That's roadkill's sponsor. :D
Phantom309 falken tyres
maybe you should fund the whole show and filming out of your own pocket, ehh? but such thing would never ever happen right? thats why all these sort of sport events have sponsors, so we can watch them HD for free at home.
fuckin love that Jeep Chief, but damn Fred's truck is a beast
18:34 I think you mean forward slash.
So it looks like you all exited at the Fordyce bypass after W/H#2?.........too bad you missed the rest of the trail.
W/H 3,4 and 5 and the squeeze rock are the best part of the trail, you can have all the water crossings. I prefer to run the trail during Sierra Trek so the water levels are lower, plus at night you can run down 5,4 and 3 then go back up them to camp.
So, at the end of the adventure, the only vehicle that didn't break anything is the obviously least practical vehicle here, the F250 6.7 diesel. Guess Built Ford Tough really does mean something.
Wolfesscythe117 Heavy duty :)
the skyjacker jeep has nice mods
All the dislikes are from Prius drivers.
Is the motor in the UA Willy's out of the Chevy military truck from dirt every day? The same 6.2 supercharged LS?
15:53 why the guy in on the left in the red shirt look like he is shooting the jeep lmao
Not the same without pewe. It's crazy how he set the standard for Ultimate Adventure.
I am not very familiar to offroading and I am wondering what is the use of the thing hanging on the winch cable? Is it there in case it break or what?
If it breaks it keeps it from flying anywhere but down. Much safer.
it's so you can see the cable and not walk into it. it has nothing to do with where it goes if it breaks. the cable should have a fiber core to prevent it from whipping if it breaks.
It actually is in case it breaks and is to keep it from flying and hitting someone, cables ether are synthetic rope or steel cable, its for safety if it breaks its not for visibility.
Travis Curtis cables can be all steel, fiber core steel, all fiber. I've been working with cable of all types for lifting and pulling for twenty years. That flap is for visibility and nothing else. Before Warn got the big head and started making those things, we used to just hang a orange vest over the cable. And I've seen an all steel cable draped with vests, jackets, and chains snap, whip, and cut a truck cab in half. That little visibility flap is not going to stop that cable from whipping if it doesn't have a fiber Safety core. And thats how it is. Educate yourself Travis, before you get yourself or someone else hurt.
repr26 Thanks for the info, I guess that's just a common misconception.
Is anyone's else's Adblock broken?
I'm still wondering why you guys did not do the hole trail. There's still 3 more winch hills from where you guys camped
i so want to do that go trail running with my 1990 toyota 4runner or my 1991 dodge w250 with the 1st gen cummins but i need to fix my dodge first lol
How many vehicles started the run, how many finished?
Bubbarope = LOL .
16:19 BUT WHAT KIND OF WINCH ??????
10:30 Sasquatch sighting...
I want to see the party!!
I am confused on what brand of Winch I should buy
As much as they cut from the Willy's on BFGoodrich tires, I would say it was embarrassing their sponsor. Lol
How u break axel shaft without revving ?
so who had none or the least mechanical issues during?
