Apologies for the lack of intro on this episode! We've switched software recently and a few of us are still getting the hang of it. You should know it by now anyway, feel free to just sing it yourself!
FYI last sword miniatures has amazing sculpts for empire, bretonnia, all 3 elf races, undead, and chaos. I'd highly recommend you use them to fill out your dark elves!
You guys mentioned wood elves fleeing into the woods to avoid fireballs because they go out of sight... Except that as far as I can tell, woods don't block line of sight unless both of you are outside the woods and there's a wood between you. Which I guess works but it's not like you can run 2" into the wood itself and be out of sight. .At least per how I read page 270 of the core rulebook. Woodland boundaries seems to say you get at best partial cover in woods.
Not run into a wood. Sit on the edge or a wood and fall back in good order to get out of the wood and out of line of sight. Also works fleeing though your own units to go out of line of sight.
@@VoidBornScum oh, ok, so you are in a wood but near the far side of it from the wizard, so when you flee, you have the wood between you and them. Fleeing through your own unit is an interesting option. I guess there's no redirect for shooting or magic.
The Egg is back, nice episode Chris and fellow Dwellers. Some good insights into the armies. So far I've only played Orcs and Ogres. The Ogres have some potential IMO, but they are a bit dicey. They don't have much in the way of static combat and really rely on causing wounds. I've found a way around that of course with an avoidance type Ogre list. My old Big Game Hunters list with 3 Hunters, total of 8 scouting units and two games in, is doing well with one Cauldron of Blood down and almost a Dragon. Gnoblar Trappers are hilarious, the Dangerous terrain test a unit has to make on contact applies when they FBIGO as well. The games have been very tactical, hilarious and a hell of a lot of fun. As opposed to the Dwarfs, who are, Static Combat R US. I rate them as an attacking force, with rangers units scouting, supported by gyro's and fast moving blocks of drilled marching infantry. Covered by artillery and an anvil, they going to beat people to death twice over IMO if used well. Anyways what would I know :)
Tomb Kings are a wierd one (as someone back into the hobby starting with them). The grand army is the classic "blocks of infantry hold up the centre and you flank with monstrous stuff" and they have an option for everything, it's just difficult fitting all those options in. There aren't any "auto take busted units", which feels balanced as you can make many different feeling lists. Their armies of infamy though have very particular play styles. Mort Cult might be the best magic spam army going as the mages can get circa +7 to cast or can run 3 Necrosphinx's. Royal Host seem worse as they can't get lvl 4 mages, but I've seen lists spamming chariots and characters on chariots that comes with the benefit of being hyper mobile, your Hierophant is tanky as all hell and can recover wounds with a magic item and chariots are all immune to KB and Monster Slayer which feels very "hipster / anti meta". You can also run a 40+ block of infantry cohorts and give the champion an item to make all the bowmen in the back have poison shots. Whilst it is a huge infantry block, it's ridiculously well priced core imo.
I remember Chaos Dwarfs being for sale back in 1986. They looked like scruffy, evil mutated Dwarfs not the ridiculous ‘Assyrians with tusks’ of the mid 90s Red Period.
Bit late, but I've run a couple one day events in Melbourne for Old World with another one coming up in November. in Lynbrook with the club Miscast Misfits, South East Surburbs.
Yeah absolutely, think that could really help rescue them. At the moment they don't quite feel like there is enough synergy to make the sub par troops pay off.
Bretonnians rock, can't imagine why Bret peasants love their lord? He's the one who rides out and keeps them from getting eaten by beatsmen and orcs. What you want to go the way of the empire? Perpetual civil war where if chaos and beatsmen don't destroy your farm and village some random empire lord will be decide He's emperor and kill you for being 6 miles south apart of a separate county?
Except that the lord forces the peasants into the fight as well - so they don't even get the benefit of safety! I do like the idea of the renegade Brett lists though, need to have a read of the Arcane Journal.
@@chriscousens111 there are more knights than peasants in any army of bretonnia. Wish is especially impressive when you think about the ratio of peasant to noble. Not to mention Men at arms aren't conscripted they choose to be one to be a farmer
31:05 There's a channel called 'Mordian Glory' (famous for running infantry heavy Imperial Guard armies) who's been getting into Old World and running some very state troop heavy armies and doing okay with them. Worth checking out for an off-meta take on that faction.
(Dave here) been enjoying Mordian's tourney reports, I think its an interesting style of play. But Hes not really getting wins against stronger end lists, does ok against less synergised stuff though. I think some of the more promising empire lists are looking a bit more like spamming artillery or the cav, but we might see a new infantry meta in the future.
Greatings from Germany, no fellblade on Screaming Bell anylonger since the FAQ :-(((( and the ginat rats was also nerfed before i played skaven well but after FAQ skaven are no chance and why i should play skaven when i also can play for example a Wailing Dire Vampire List (i played on the last 3 Tournaments)
Great insights as always guys! Would love to pick Daves mind about that 1250 wood elf list! Have you had any thoughts about wild riders with banner of the hunter king?
(Dave here) Really rate the the Banner of the Hunter King with the wild riders, if that is the approach you want to take. Wood elves can make a pretty agro cav list that can do a fair bit of avoidance as well as hit quite hard at very targeted points in the enemy army. It is probably not the army I would play, I like the wild riders, but you really need to control them because their charge range is so large so they often need a great eagle baby sitting them. For the first turn I think you can do this with the deepwood scouts if you don't want them charging on turn 1, but you are really risking going second and getting taken out so I probably wouldn't be investing too many points in them (especially as wood elves tend to be high drops and so often -1 to go first). But it is a very intimidating missile that can punch out a turn 1 charge and absolutely tear a hole in an opponents frontline if they don't know its coming or don't know how to deal with that. ++ Characters [744 pts] ++ Glade Lord [489 pts] (Hand weapon, Great weapon, Light armour, Forest Dragon, Talisman of Protection, An Annoyance Of Netlings, A Befuddlement Of Mischiefs) Spellweaver [255 pts] (Hand weapon, Level 4 Wizard, Warhawk, Oaken Stave, Illusion) ++ Core Units [507 pts] ++ 7 Glade Riders [146 pts] (Hand weapon, Cavalry spears, Asrai Longbows, Trueflight Arrows, Reserve Move, Glade Knight) (these could easily be hagbane as well) 7 Glade Riders [146 pts] (Hand weapon, Cavalry spears, Asrai Longbows, Trueflight Arrows, Reserve Move, Glade Knight) 5 Deepwood Scouts [75 pts] (Hand weapon, Asrai Longbows, Hagbane Tips) 5 Glade Guard [65 pts] (Hand weapon, Asrai Longbows, Hagbane Tips) 5 Deepwood Scouts [75 pts] (Hand weapon, Asrai Longbows, Hagbane Tips) ++ Special Units [625 pts] ++ 7 Wild Riders [221 pts] (Hand weapon, Hunting Spear, Light armour, Standard bearer [Banner Of The Hunter King]) 5 Wild Riders [135 pts] (Hand weapon, Hunting Spear, Light armour) 5 Wild Riders [135 pts] (Hand weapon, Hunting Spear, Light armour) 5 Sisters of the Thorn [134 pts] (Hand weapons, Blackbriar Javelins, Handmaiden of the Thorn, Standard bearer) ++ Rare Units [120 pts] ++ Great Eagle [60 pts] Great Eagle [60 pts]
Men at arms are probably the nost cost effective infantry in the game. They just keep people stuck in combat with large leadership horde potential. You can make them stubborn. Bretonnia does a lot very well.
ua-cam.com/video/-iaKQcAKFJM/v-deo.html Just in case someone tries to drag along their screaming bell with their Giant rats it doesn't work. Drag along is only with Infantry and Giant rats are a war beast unit. l got excited too for a minute.
Yeah we have done, need to have a proper chat about metrics for victory as well as I think Rob is right that people are seriously misusing or misreading what the stats tell us at this point. Also think it is still very early in an edition and there is likely some serious tech for armies that is undiscovered or folk haven't been able to get the models to play with yet.
Offended by made up fantastical Bretonnian lore! Think any chaos, Skaven, orcs & gobbos, Chaos dwarves, Dark Elves, Ogres, the whole lot, it’s all brutally ugly if you want it to be.

Yeah the men at arms are very effective, right up there with beastmen. So cheap for what they deliver as an anvil.
