      @@matureyoungman The LA Dodgers don’t even make $700 million in revenue for a season. No matter what way you look at, it’s a ridiculous contract for 1 player and the LA Dodgers OVERPAID big time. Shohei just scored the biggest sports contract in history. That’s $70 million per year for 10 years.
      Shohei is already 29 pushing 30. There’s no way in hell Shohei is going to be worth a $70 million dollar per year contract player in his mid 30s to late 30s. You can’t convince me he’s going to be putting up a $700 million dollar stats at age 37,38, and 39.

    NOT oHani, it’s Ohtani, it’s the second Canadian mispronouncing his last name what’s the deal.
    Dodgers have scouted Ohtani since he was in HS, his trusted doctor is the Dodgers team physician, dodgers have the best farm system etc, there are some history there, Jays should go after Yamamoto

      At a cost of 70 million a season for the next ten years it would be a very bad contract for Toronto to sign. They're better off without him at that price. Not to say that he isn't a great player.

      @@reno-san87 I just saw today that most of it is deferred. Apparently the Dodgers have done the same thing with two other players, which means that in the future the Dodgers will be paying a crapload of money to guys that aren't playing for them anymore.

    Money is not an issue for Shohei for sure.
    LA´s warm climate, familiarity with LA, and obviously closer to Japan.
    His surgeon is with Dodgers may be a big factor.
    One of his big dreams, since his early age, is to win in the World Series.
    Must admit Dodgers are closer for his dream.
    I love Toronto, cause I used to live there. But I support his decision.
    A part of his name "shou" has an image of " a bird flying high with extended wings" in Japanese.
    We hope he keep flying high.

    He's baseball only Pitcher and Power Hitter but won't be able to pitch until 2025. He had arm surgery. These team only give these kind of money to superstars cause the know the can make it back in ticket sales. But let's use some common sense 10 yrs is tool long. 700M/10 = 70M/ season. If he don't play 1 season team is out 70M.

      What I find repulsive about these statements is that they think surgeons and doctors are above firefighters, paramedics, nurses, etc. These people probably won't recognize that rich people can afford better medical treatment than poor people.
      If you say so, we can live without watching baseball or any other sport, but it'll be damn hard to live without basic social infrastructure, right? So, why don't these people put plumbers, electricians, construction workers, cashiers, soldiers, etc. as examples of people being above professional athletes?
      At least I hope these people are paying their doctors millions of dollars. I wonder how much they're willing to pay for manual labor?

      had absolutely no intention of signing with anyone but the Dodgers. All the hype of him signing with the Jays was just a ploy to "amp up" his eventual contract. I, for one, have lost all respect for this player. Call it sour grapes, if you will, but I hope Ohtani is a complete "flop" in L.A. Again, as always, GO JAYS GO!!!
