The problem with being short is that you you have to exert so much more energy in order to keep up with people who are taller. You will run out of gas much sooner than they will. And when both of you get tired, the taller person can just take slow and long strides. But the short person has to constantly be exerting energy to keep up with his/her shorter limbs. It takes a real genuis and genetic freak to be able to pull something like this off. Not everybody can do it.
in my opinion the main problem with being short is when you try to play defense. On offense, shorties can do pretty well with shooting, passing, handling, and agility.
As basketball is generally only limited to taller guys it would be fun to have a separate section with only guys who are shorter than say 5'8'. They are generally very agile, it would be great to watch them play at the highest level!
Yuki is listed at 5’8”. Yes he is short, but the NBA has had some amazing short players of 5’9” or under. Calvin Murphy, Earl Boykins, Mugsy Bogues, Spud Webb, and Isaiah Thomas 2 are the best of the short guys. All of these guys played 13 years or more in the NBA. Calvin Murphy was the man, and is in the Hall of Fame. IT2 once averaged 28 points for a season and would have been a Hall of Famer if not for his injury. Bogues had multiple years where he averaged 10 assists per game. Boykins and Webb were main contributors and both had years where they averaged double digits. If other short guys succeeded in the NBA, I don’t see why Yuki cannot. He seems to have good handles and the quickness to succeed. It is good he is getting playing time in the G League rather than sit on an NBA bench. If Yuki ever improves on his shooting, I can see him having a Boykins type career. However, he must continue to show improvement over the next 2 years, if not then his NBA dreams will be over. I am rooting for you, Yuki!
@@kingwillie206 , I forgot about Nate Robinson! He was another amazing short guy that put in a lot of quality minutes. My question is this, is having elite vertical that important? I know every little bit matters, but IT2 did not have an amazing vertical, and yet he seemed to frequently be able to cleanly get a quality shot off (thanks to his quickness and his ability to create space). I see the same qualities in Yuki as I saw in Isaiah. However, at the moment Yuki is just not getting it done in the G-League. He needs to improve his shooting. Yuki has played in 7 G-League games so far as I write this, and he is averaging 34 minutes, 10 assists, and 13 points per game. Getting 34 minutes means he is getting the opportunity. The 10 assists per game is impressive, However, he is only shooting 32% from the field. That is just not going to cut it, those 10 assists do not make up for a 32% FG. In the NBA, a point guard should be shooting at least 40% FG to be expected to keep a job. Like I said, in the next 2 years, he needs to improve his shooting or else he will be gone.
I had to stop the video and take a min to recover from that sht... Why? Just why? I would call this, especially, a racism when you dont put even the slightest amount of effort to just make sure to pronounce TWO WORDS CORRECTLY for your FREAKING JOB! Fkn hell...
Good luck, Yuki. Keep working on your shot. That's all that's missing. Give max effort on D and get your shooting percentages up 10 percent across the boards and you'll be in the NBA for 10 years.
All due respect to yuki, putting him in the same sentence as shohei Ohtani is absolutely disrespectful and also r*c*t…you know Ohtani has GOAT talent right?
Ahiru no sora is more accurate tbh since the main lead is short and can throw a 3 pointer too. He specialize in one handed 3 pointer shots but sometimes he also shoots like in female form since he is influenced by his mother which is a retired pro from woman's JP national basketball team.

I don't even watch basketball so thanks for using stats to give context. sounds like he's an amazing player to me. defense was the thing i was most worried about. i think he has something unique that others don't have like you said, his vision and passing ability are top notch. once that shooting improves a tad bit it'll make him damn near difficult to deal with just cos people dunno what to expect from him.
He proved he could play in the Olympics. He proved he could play regular season in NBA. Now he proved he can play in G league…. What else does he need to do… to be recognized as a solid player.
They don't want other players from other countries to be recognized as solid players. American players HAVE to be the best in the world. Even when they are not. France should have won. Embiid shouldn't have been allowed to play for the American team. He should have been denied to play for either France or America since he did what he did. Without Embiid, America wouldn't have had anyone to play against Gober and Wembe. He and AD were the combo they needed to win. They should have lost, refs benefited them. As an American. This is bad. Olympic sports themselves are no longer the pinnacle but being used as part of the mental problems of today.
He needs to get called back up eventually! If he increases his Jumper accuracy and gets his floater down he will be a threat for scoring. His defense already looks good in all these clips and his work ethic is going too be his strong suit
I had high hopes when the Raptors picked up Markquis Nowell, but he wasn't given enough play time to show what he could do. I think that the game is missing out on how entertaining it is to watch smaller players dish out dimes.
man is crazy talented he reminds me of The Flash if he was a basketball player being so fast but seems time goes in slow motion for him to be able to make them plays
Memphis true blue here. Let's fill in some blanks. Not sure when this video was produced, but Yuki dropped 27 in the G-League the same night the Grizz blew out the Warriors. Deep or not, if he's going to break through, he's starting out with the right team. All his Japanese fans should be thanking their lucky stars he wound up here, where he can be properly vetted and grown. He's not a publicity stunt - Memphis doesn't play that, doesn't have the time to play that. If he's on a 2-way it's good news for him because our FO finds diamonds in coal mines constantly. We're starting 2 rookies on a team that's 2nd in the West, for goodness' sake. If Yuki weren't working his tail off on D and being a good teammate, he wouldn't be here. Yes, he's a longshot, but referencing his stats in the Association is not going to mean anything this year. It's how he comes along in the G-league. And if Pippen gets dinged up (on this team, a near certainty), Yuki will at least dress for a few games and probably get some real minutes. That's when Yuki is going to show to have to show something. But he's shown enough that he'll at the least be on a 2-way again next season. Grit n' Grind nation is in Yuki's corner for sure.
Blah blah blah blah.....unfortunately, at the end of the day, he's too short to be SIGNIFICANT in the NBA. He could be better than PRIME MJ, but again, he's TOO SHORT to be considered seriously.
@@pinoypapapizza It’s so easy for you to write a comment saying such a thing but the fact even probably at this moment he is working his tail off to be better and be of significance something that you don’t understand since you are looking at things face value UNLIKE the Grizzlies GM who sees and snuffs out potential. I'm by no means a basketball fan, but Zach Edey and Yuki Kawamura on the same team is making me enjoy watching the NBA for the first time.
As a Japanese,I’m so proud of him!!!Let’s go Yuki!!!!🎉🇯🇵
He will be good give him time to develop like any other player dont count him out like every do
This video is a banger, the narrative is top notch. great work.

Nate Robinson was 5’8” and touching the rim with head. That’s the difference!
You are hero for short guys like me. Go Yuki.
1:36 bruh lol announcer please stop
Hahaha
I had to stop the video and take a min to recover from that sht... Why? Just why? I would call this, especially, a racism when you dont put even the slightest amount of effort to just make sure to pronounce TWO WORDS CORRECTLY for your FREAKING JOB! Fkn hell...
Max cringe. I think he learned his Japanese from sushi restaurants run by Mexicans
my guy said ありがとござます lmaoooo
that almost made me spit out my drink
i cant wait to see how the scene looks in 10 years, hopefully he continues to inspire people and broaden perspectives
Good luck, Yuki. Keep working on your shot. That's all that's missing. Give max effort on D and get your shooting percentages up 10 percent across the boards and you'll be in the NBA for 10 years.
He's Takehiko Inoue' greatest masterpiece.
We got Shohei Ohtani for baseball. Now we got Yuki Kawamura for basketball.
And both wear 17
All due respect to yuki, putting him in the same sentence as shohei Ohtani is absolutely disrespectful and also r*c*t…you know Ohtani has GOAT talent right?
@ There's nothing racist about an asian(lol me) putting two fellow asians that are representing their people together in a sentence.
@ Ohtani isnt even close to the only Asian in baseball nor Japanese. This makes zero sense buddy. Even on his own team there’s 5 lmao.
@@usersixnine347 Where did they say Ohtani was the only Japanese player in the MLB? 😂
You noticed how he looked confused when they shouted "we want yuki" .. he is humble 💯💯
Bro is the real life Kuroko but with 3 pointer abilities
You should watch Ahiru no Sora.
@pratyushraj2441 will check it out
I was thinking Miyagi from Slam Dunk
Ahiru no sora is more accurate tbh since the main lead is short and can throw a 3 pointer too. He specialize in one handed 3 pointer shots but sometimes he also shoots like in female form since he is influenced by his mother which is a retired pro from woman's JP national basketball team.
This guy is really awesome! Such an inspiring success story.
He make basketball not boring.
-Said the only guy that's ever thought basketball was "boring" 😂😂😂 Oh, hold on, it's mr. badass!!! 🤣🤣🤣
i guess basketball been boring before eh?
Just say you don’t watch basketball bro 😂
😮😮omG very impressive. Thanks for sharing about him. Now i am one of his fan. I wiiii watch his games from now on.
Great job putting this together. Really good player assessment. You know your shit. Thanks
im gay as hell and only clicked because he is handsome BUT I JUST WANT TO SAY that as a fellow Asian (and as a fellow 173cm guy lol), it's so good to see someone adjacent to me/my experiences making headlines and defying expectations! you go, king. idk wtf yall do in this sport but... you go!!!
It’s fun to see some variety of a player weaving in n out of the gut of the defense and dropping nice dimes, not just 3s
As a short man, I wish this dude all the success. I don't watch basketball, but I will remember this name
I’ve been a part of many “WE WANT YUKI!!!!” chants at the games
Pure skill here, not carried by height like so many "top tier" players...
Rooting for his success!
He needs to get called back up eventually! If he increases his Jumper accuracy and gets his floater down he will be a threat for scoring. His defense already looks good in all these clips and his work ethic is going too be his strong suit
He's pretty good in shooting...he's just not comfortable and not confident unlike when he was playing with team Japan...
The fact this guy can also get rebounds 💪
I had high hopes when the Raptors picked up Markquis Nowell, but he wasn't given enough play time to show what he could do. I think that the game is missing out on how entertaining it is to watch smaller players dish out dimes.
Big time missing out
Yuki Kawamura is a very impressible athlete! Thanks for sharing; we're all rooting for him!
Hope He Can Get Into The Roster One Day
man is crazy talented he reminds me of The Flash if he was a basketball player being so fast but seems time goes in slow motion for him to be able to make them plays
Literally nobody hates this guy 😅
He has that same humble beginning like Steve Nash and he plays like him. Probably another fun player you can not miss to watch.
Wow the nba has a proper point guard
Probably the reason for his minimal success. Teams haven't had actual positions in 10 years and don't even understand what's going on.
@@Ryan-sl8mwperfect irony the player form another country is dominating becuase because America has lost its bearings
He is a little big basketball player. It's tough for a shorter athlete to play against giants. A real Samurai.
Daing! I love stories like this. this makes me love the sport even more.
The underdog. Love this guy.
Yuki and Jay-Huff together are unstoppable.
this jay huff guy looks like an all star in these highlights
I've never been more proud to be 5'9"! Let's go short king
This dude is like Miyagi from Slam Dunk but he can shoot 3s 😂
So he like the guy from shoyo
@Lost111 Fujima would have been taller but yeah similar
@@albertau3758 : but fujima was relatively not as short. But yes still similar!
I'm his fan.. Glad he's achieving at a very high level.
@@pinoypapapizza Yuki >>>>>>>>>>> Bronny James
@@pinoypapapizza It’s so easy for you to write a comment saying such a thing but the fact even probably at this moment he is working his tail off to be better and be of significance something that you don’t understand since you are looking at things face value UNLIKE the Grizzlies GM who sees and snuffs out potential. The game is basketBALL it’s 10 people throwing a BALL into a basket that is 10 ft of the ground, he pumps out assists like a well-oiled machine and once he gets used to NBA basketball watch as your jaw drops at this man.
@@nelsontoledo2069 i agree, yuki has potential to be an elite 6th man. teams like the celtics and the nuggets would feast off of his assisting in quick bursts off the bench.
@@pinoypapapizzaas a filipino yourself, you should've known better than to drag someone because of height
His no look passes are 🔥
As a Pacers fan he reminds me of TJ Mcconnell, so naturally I want him on my team.
Too smart, Too fast, Too short. You got a new fan, Short King
Go Yuki!
The problem for short man in basketball is defense. But overall performance for him is just amazing who can compete with height disadvantage in this sport.
It's pretty damn amazing what he's already achieved, will be rooting for him
Even watching the plays in slow motion, I can't tell which man he's going to hit.
Succeeding despite all the difficulties is real success. He succeeded despite being short,a hopeful event in every respect
You dropped this video saying he’s a bad shooter the day he dropped 7 3s back to back in the g league
That's what Akashi Seijuro would look like in real life
I wish the league didn't have so much politicalness it would be so entertaining to see ja and him on the floor to see what they would cook up just maybe 4 one quarter
That would be a defensive disaster.
its nothing to do with politics, just the team lineup that gives best chance of winning
He's only there because of political correctness. He's a DEI player succeeding against modern players that don't even try to play defense.
He the best for sure 😊😊
