He gave his 100% to the Angels to the point of blowing out his arm. He never asked to be traded and believed in them until the very end ... he was the model professional. The dude went out during his contract yr risking injury, while our best pitchers sat at home, and led his country to a WBC title. He lifted the entire profile and excitement of the WBC and bball globally. He deserves to be in a big market to showcase his skills in the postseason. Whether it is the Dodgers, NY teams, Cubs, Boston, Philly, etc ... I'm just glad he has a legit chance to get to the postseason and win a ring.

100% agreed , the fact the angels thought of themselves as a contender is a shame because we need to see him pitch / hit in the same playoff game but now that won’t happen until 2025. We will be telling our grandkids that the Angels let a 700m dollar man walk and got nothing in return

@@AL-ge4sp you can't have it both ways, you can't criticize the angels for losing him while also criticizing them for letting him walk for nothing. if they had traded him earlier, that would have guranteed 100% that they wouldn't keep him. keeping him at the trade deadline was their best shot at keeping him long term. at the deadline they were above 500, were coming off impressive form, and had a bunch of key players returning soon. going all in on making the playoffs was their best shot at keeping him, it didn't work out, and they were STILL one of the finalists to land him. the angels are not why ohtani injured himself. he injured himself because he insisted he could handle the load, even when the angels wanted to rest him. the angels weren't asking him to go as hard as he did, and he ended up doing too much for his own good. complete respect to ohtani and all, obviously an amazing professional but he is the reason for his injury not the angels. if he had been traded to a contender he would have put even more pressure on his body, and might have suffered even worse injuries. also, remember he sat out the last month of the season. rightfully so, but still, if he was on a contender he probably would have still tried to hit, which could have made his injury situation worse.

@@AL-ge4sp Why should the Angels feel deserving of something in return? They should just thank their lucky stars that Shohei chose them as his MLB debut team, and that they had Sho-time from 2018-2023.

For the past decade.. maybe 2 decades.. people who know and love Baseball, have lamented it's ever shrinking popularity. BASEBALL needs a "Renaissance" .. and THIS BOOST of popularity and attention to Baseball WORLDWIDE. The Dodgers getting him.. and expanding his reach and BASEBALL POPULARITY is a no brainer GREAT thing for baseball.

Dodgers needed a DH they got a DH (in hopes he regains his ability to pitch wich they also needed) vs. the Padres not needing another SS but geting Bogaerts only to have a "big name" splash signing; 2. The Dodgers are capable of maintaining this payroll for at least 4 more years vs. the Padres already having to cut payroll; 3. The Dodgers signed a 1st ballot HOF bound player vs the Padres signing....well....extended half their team to multiple years. Not to mention Ohtani is arguably the best player nowadays

Jays dodged a bullet - 700m for 10yrs translates to over 1b once you factor in the exchange rate. Why did the Jays do the smart thing and bow out instead of matching the offer? Easy - Ohtani is recovering from his 2nd Tommy John and while Im sure he'll come back and perform well we just dont know, nor do we know how his body will hold up. Nevermind your run of the mill injuries that could pop up and derail things. It's a huge risk by the Dodgers, that has the potential to be both profitable for them but could backfire horrendiously if something goes wrong. Oh, and the Jays have the richest owners in the league, they could have matched it if the numbers added up but clearly they didn't for the Jays.

The money is deferred. Allowing the dodgers to make other moves. Jays didn’t dodge a bullet they missed on the greatest player of all time in the sport. Add in the economical aspect and revenue Shohei brings all by himself. Jays have been searching for an impact lefty bat for years. This is bad for them. Now they have no where to pivot. The best hitter on the board is Bellinger who is due for regression. Soto got traded already so the trade market is lacking in the hitting category.
